The interchangeable grip panels really are a nice feature aren't they? I keep the larges right side and backstrap panels in, and the smallest on the left side. It gets me a nice hand filling grip that I can still wrap my finger tips around. It makes it a little weird if I'm shooting week handed or week hand only, but I had to do it for an enhanced carry permit class and I still shot faster than anyone there and with a 100% score.Love the interchangeable grip inserts and back strap in the Small size version

The only thing I'd do differently on the grip is use the P30/HK45 grip texture rather than what they put on the VP9.
I was under the impression that the VP9 and P30L grip panels were not interchangeable. If I was wrong about that I'm totally replacing mine. You can buy the grip panels seperately. They are usually about $10 each piece. You can even texture them your self with heat / soldering iron.

Yeah I’m actually a much bigger fan of the P30 stippling rather than the VP texture. Looks like I’m back to the soldering iron method if that’s what I want. They are apparently not interchangeable but they are for sale for either pistol, but the ones I saw for $10 were for the VP series. The P30 panels are more like $20 to $30.
I've been running my vp9 tactical (threaded barrel w/ night sights) for HD almost since the day I brought it home. It has been great although I agree about the grip texture. It could be better. The contours are a bit soft for me, I prefer something more like the CZ P07 but it will be a long time before a pistol comes along to replace this one.

I have a new VP9 with the optic mount capability but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Love the interchangeable grip inserts and back strap in the Small size version; very comfortable and make it feel like a Hi-Power with a set of Pachmayrs on it! Also reminds me of my CZ P07 grip too!

Well you know what they say: great minds think alike!
That or maybe you have small size hands like I do!
Dear HK,
We know you're not listening, but just in case you are, please make the gun everyone is waiting for: you know, the VP-9 with the long slide that is already optic ready. Many of us don't want to buy every evolutionary iteration it will take you to get to that point.
Thanks for listening, or not
Signed,
