Handgun alternative's in .45

(I hope this has not been discussed but if it has, mods please lock it)

For a while I have been wanting a new .45 for myself but even though I love GLOCK,SIG and 1911 .45's I want something different. Does any one have suggestions?
 
CZ 97b

I've always wanted a CZ 97b. Heard tons of great things about them and think they are cool as heck.

I have a S&W 625 in 45 ACP. Shoots well. Hornady custom 185 gr JHP/XTP good round for defense. Lead wadcutters good practice round, no feeding problems as with an auto.
 
45 acp not a 1911

Ruger makes one of the best out of box's 45's today. ( for the price ) Even got a military contract if I remember right.

Ive got a S&W 4506, just bought a XD compact, and looked at a Ruger P345 today...... That ruger felt really good. It actually felt better than the XD i got. If they made it in a DAO Id have to have one.
 
I vote for the Witness Elite Match 45. Its what the CZ97 should have been and is much better than you might expect for its ~$500 price.

The Glock 21 is a good choice if your hands are on the medium to big size.

The XD is another really good choice.

I have shoot the CZ and it shoots SMOOTH and very reliably!

The H&K USPs are also a great platform.

You have 4 really good full size choices right there!

Kahr also is in the .45 acp game if you are looking for a nice CCW package. One of my buddies swears by his!

My dad has a Glock 21 and I LOVE it!

I heard good things about XD too!

I am thinking on that CZ but that is ALOT of money

As for the HK same as above but It would be German on German crime (Well German on 1/4th German crime ;) and for some reason alot of people think I am Mexican? Damn farmers tan!)

I have not really hear anything on the Kahr.

S&W Revolvers in .45 ACP
Note - they also chamber and fire the rimmed .45 Auto RIm
cartridge which does not require the full moon clip.
HKS 25M speedloaders can be used with .45 AR.

FNP-45

Its got all the stuff people love about plastic guns: light weight, large capacity (14 rnd standard of 45, and they make 15s) without having to deal with striker firing and the associated nerf-gun-like trigger most plastic guns have. Its accurate enough and pretty decent to shoot. Its no 1911, but what is?

ETA: If you look, you can find them for 525-550, they come with three mags AND the world's largest pistol case. Seriously, it could accommodate a cordless drill and multiple accessories.
 
If you are looking for a .45 ACP then I still feel the 1911 has a proven track record. As many have stated, the original spec guns run without any problems. I carry one everyday.
If you are looking for something different then as has been suggested, make a list of the attributes that are important and then let that lead you.

Or, if you want metal frame the CZ 97b is affordable and seems to be accurate and reliable.

If you want Tupperware, the XD is also a proven design.

Those two I have shot and liked. I am hearing a lot of good things about the M&P, but since I have not personally shot one who knows. May be worth taking a look.

If you can find a S&W 25-2, then grab it and never look back.
 
If I wanted a non sig or 1911 .45, I'd get an H&K USP Compact in a heartbeat. It's the only .45 with that size grip and decent capacity, and you can carry it cocked and locked or double action hammer down.
 
There are many variations of the USPs, I forget how to decipher the codes right now. Some can be carried cocked and locked, some are DA only, etc.

EDIT: Oh crap. I think I'm an idiot. On my .40 I think it does do that. If you push it past the "safe" point then it decocks.

Ooops. I stand corrected. My apologies.
