Here is my current handgun collection:

Ruger Super Redhawk Stainless - .44 Mag

Ruger Blackhawk convertable - .357 - 9MM

Ruger SP 101 - .357 Mag

Stoeger Cougar - 9MM

Ruger Mark III 22/45 Bull Barrel - .22LR

S&W Model 317 Revolver - .22LR

Bryco/Jennings Auto - .22LR

How can I improve this list this year? I'm thinking of purchasing a Kahr PM-9 or a KelTec PF-9. I'll probably buy three handguns this year. And, I don't like 1911s. My problem has been that I give too many of my handguns away to Sons and SILs.

Trade the Redhawk for a Smith 29, the Blackhawk for a Colt SAA, the SP101 for a Smith Model 10, the Mark III for a Woodsman, and toss the Jennings into the trash.

i suggest the kahr, i love mine, and everyone that i have ever shot/used/ carried etc. especially compared to the kel tecs.

as well i prefer the steel framed kahr's to the polymer kahr's.

Ya gotta add a Smith N frame of some sort. Maybe a 27 or a 29.

Are you adopting? :D

Last year I gave away a S&W Sigma 9MM to my SIL and a S&W .380 to another SIL. I also gave away one of my SKSs (I had 3) to the same SIL that I gave the Sigma to. And, I also gave another son a Marlin W336 (that's the third one of those I have given to family members).
Are you adopting?
Depends on how much money you have. :)

Too many Rugers, not enough Smiths and Colts.

Then add three or four polymers, perhaps an XD9SC for carry and a full size Glock for the range.

After you've fine-tuned those basics, you can then start doing some "serious" adding to your collection.

Not nearly enough old Smiths & Colts.

For instance, I don't even see a 1911 or SAA .45 Colt, or S&W J or K frame centerfires.

You like wheel guns? Why not a 22 magnum?

You only have one hi cap 9mm. Get more magazines.

You don't like 1911s? No problem. Plenty of other 45's to choose from. Every American should have a .45.

(As if anyone would trade a Colt SAA for a Blackhawk?):scrutiny: Both are great, but a Colt is valued (note I did not say WORTH) 2x-3x as much.

I've owned several Smith's, but like a fool I traded them. I also had a Colt Python when I was a young guy and sold it once when money got tight. I kick myself for that. However, I'm now kind of a tightwad. So, what I buy now, is for keeps. They can fight over what I have when I'm gone.

I hope whan the end comes my boys will look at my guns and say, "Dad sure had a great collection."

Around here it's almost possible to find a good old S&W or Colt. It's not that they're too much money; it's that there aren't any period. And, I'd almost have to drive out of state or make a two day shopping trip to Boise to find a good buy.

I am looking right now for something like a Kahr PM-9 that I can EDC. I'm even looking at the Ruger LCP .380.

Careful with the Kahr PM9.

I have owned several Kahrs and, except for one, they have been problem guns. The K9 I had came with a NATO barrel installed and locked closed with a round in the chamber. They "fixed" it, but it was not reliable.

My first PM9 had some jamming problems within Kahr's stated 200 round break-in period. However, by round 220, a crack developed in the plastic frame. The crack was located below the front, left INSIDE rail and was shaped like a crescent. Some of the embedded metal was exposed. Needless to say, I wasn't happy.

Circumstances occurred such that I was able to purchase a DEBUGGED PM9 from a friend. I had shot this gun previously and it had never jammed. So, I'm two for three with Kahrs.

Be careful and test the gun properly. Get through the 200 round break-in period and verify functionality and fitness before using it for defense.

Well, lets see ... lots of 22lr, but nothing in 22 Mag. I think you would get a real kick (so to speak) out of something in 22 Mag. It's -not- just a suped-up 22lr ... it's a whole nuther beastie.

Nothing in 45 ACP either. Maybe a true mini-gun for fun. NAA Black Widow in 22 Mag (get that 22 Mag thing out of the way at the same time!)

Hows about something in 45 Colt? Get .45 in there somehow, even if it isn't ACP. ;-)

That collection is begging for a 1911 of some sort.

Also when you get the chance add that Smith 19 or 27/28 to the collection just so you have a comparison to the Rugers. The 29 is a really sexy .44 and is far smaller than I thought it would be when I got to shoot a cylinder worth of .44 from one. But for long term durability and the ability to play with .44 mag hot loads the Ruger wins hands down.

For a more classic 9mm instead of the Cougar or to add to the Cougar perhaps a Browning Hi Power or one of the newer CZ's?

Since you're in the US where you can easily get snub nose barrels unlike we can up here maybe a .38/.357 snubbie just for giggles. Not that they are accurate for distances much farther than you can spit but as a personal close up carry gun or just for giggles at the range they could offer a nice variety from the other stuff that looks pretty serious.

Also you're missing a big end of the day flashbang gun. At least unless you reload and feed the Super Redhawk some over stuffed rounds filled with slower burn powder.... :D

You have a great selection available to you, is there anything that you feel you are missing? I can't see any niche you are missing for "need".

Any pistol issue that arises can be well handled with the tools you have at hand.

I'd agree that you should have a .45 Auto on that list. If you don't like the 1911, there are still several really good choices out there. A CZ97, a Sig P220, or my favorite, a H&K USP Tactical.

Looks like you need a pocket pistol as well. I've been reading good things about the new Kahr .380, I like my Kel-Tec P-3AT.
(I know you have a Jennings, they're more of a gun-like object. I believe in the original Greek, "Jennings" means not-working-weapon.)

I'd also recommend a Makarov. Simple, plain, and foolproof.

How about a Ruger KP-90 de-cock only in .45acp? I have one that's 12 years old, has had about 1000 rds through it, and is problem free. You can find a used one for $300 if you look.
