Henry Single Shot ... IN 357 MAG!!

I'm getting ready. The DNZ Game Reaper made for the H&R Handi Rifle (DNZ # 11003) looks like it will fit the Henry. I just ordered two: one for the new .357 and one for the in-my-safe-as-yet-unfired .44 mag. I have a couple of low power Leupolds in my stash--a Vari-X II 1-4X and a Vari-X III 1.5-5X--that should be perfect. I'll get some pictures up when they all come together, and a range report as soon as I can.

I have a Henry Single Shot in 45-70 and I love shooting it with HSM ammo 405 grain at 1300 FPS. It’s accurate with this load.

When the Single Shot first came out I called and emailed Henry and asked about a 30-30 chambering and they said they wouldn’t offer any other chamberings until they saw how the initial ones sold. I guess they are selling well. ;)

I see a new Henry in my future.

I wonder what the twist rate is on that .223?

I'd like to have a single shot with a fast twist so I could have a .22 Hornet loading.

I've wanted a .22 Hornet for a long time but it's easier and cheaper to just download .223. However I want a fast twist for the 40-45 gr bullets.

I realized last night that what I want/need is a SLOW twist. 1:12 or slower. I always get slow vs fast twist mixed up.

Good idea. There's been a big shortage of .357/.38 rifles for a while, and this one looks like a good youth rifle if nothing else. Simple with all the moving parts visible. Much cheaper than the 1873s, 92s, and Lightnings too.

That is a really nice rifle, let us know how it does accuracy wise, I was just at one of my local gun shops and they didn't have one to look at.

H015-3030 reamed to 30-30 AI. Life is good!

Now if Henry will chamber one in 22 Hornet. Ream that one to K-Hornet. Life will be better!

Henry needs to take their H015B-4570 and lengthen the barrel to somewhere between 28” to 32”, maybe give it an octagon barrel. And I will replace my H&R Buffalo Classic with it. Same with the 357 Magnum. Shorten the barrel to 18” -20” and put it in the brass frame version, and maybe I will replace my H&R Buffalo Classic Carbine as well. That says a lot from me as I am very fond of my H&R Buffalo Classics.

My hunting battery today consists of the H&R Handi Rifles in 30-30, 22 Hornet, and 45-70 along with the H&R Pardner shotguns in 410, 20, and 10 gauge. I would replace them with the Henry Single Shot is 30-30, 22 Hornet and 12 gauge shotgun. The Henry 30-30 is inbound. Ordered it yesterday.

My Beanfield rifle is the H&R 280 Remington with the Handi-Grip stock, the H&R 223 with the Handi-Grip stock is my dedicated whistle pig rifle, and the H&R AAC 300 Blackout is my beater rifle. I don’t see them getting replaced.

.22 Hornet would have me digging for my wallet.

Looks like you can bore a .30-30 Win out to an Ackley fairly easily ... without setting the barrel back, correct? Unfortunately, any Ackley built on a .308 parent case does need the barrel set back, which isn't easy with a break action.

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't just ream the 30-30 without set back since it pushes the shoulder forward.

Another possibility would be 30-40 krag or 30-40 AI but you would also need to recut the extractor. I am confident I could get the performance I'm looking for out of the 30-30 AI. 2400-2500 fps with a 150 gr or so at 50,000 psi pressure. The action is built to accommodate 308 levels of pressure and bolt thrust and will have a fully supported chamber, so it will have some room to play with for the experienced handloader.

The action is fine, the case is not though. Form your 30-30 AI out of 375 Winchester brass. It is much stronger. And I get 2400 - 2500 FPS easily with the 150 grain using 335 powder. I just bought some Leverevolution powder to see how it works. I like RL-7 with the lighter bullets.

375 brass is no longer available. I don't think the brass will be too much of an issue in fully supported chamber. It has nowhere to go. What do you have it chambered in?
