Anybody gotten "hands on" with the new Henry Single Shot?

Still waiting patiently.......... Their web site says they are shipping in mid- September. Earlier this year it had said mid-May. I hope the delays aren't caused by any design or production problems with the rifles themselves. Could be caused by almost anything. Would sure like to get a "hands on" look at one of those and actually pick one up real close and personal. There's a face book thing on the Henry web site that may have more up to date information but I'm not on face book so I didn't try it.

I am curious also. Would love to have one in 357 Magnum
Not being a fan of lever actions, that was my primary interest, too. I already contacted Henry to ask about a .357 offering (they are doing a .44 mag) and they said it is not planned. But if enough of us ask about it ... maybe?

At this point I'd bet that the folks at Henry will wait and see how the market reacts. If they decide that they have a winner then it will become available in a .357 and probably other chamberings as well. Just depends on how much money that product line generates.

From Henry's web site:
These single-shot rifles are aimed at the challenge of hunting with only one round on board, and hunters who prefer the uncomplicated durability of the design.
I get this completely. Some guys like to hunt with a handgun because it is more challenging than a rifle. Some hunt with a bow because it is more challenging than a rifle or handgun. Some of those guys like to hunt with a stick bow rather than a compound, for the same reason. I have taken deer with bolt-action rifles, lever-action rifles, single-shot rifles, shotguns with slugs, revolvers, single-shot pistols, and compound bows. Some of us like variety.

This will likely appeal to a fairly small segment.

I'm assuming that if Cabelas has them listed at 370 that they will be available from places like buds for 325 or so, and probably on sale for under 300. Can't decide what caliber I am going to get. I'll have to get my hands on one and see how the comb height is for a scope. If I can scope it I might get a 243. Otherwise probably a 44 magnum. A brass one in 45-70 sounds pretty good as well.

So funny thing, I was at a gun show this spring and there was a rep from Henry there with a booth so I asked him when the single shots were going to be ready and we got to talking about them. He mentioned that they were originally planning to make them as an interchangeable barrel system but they decided not to because they felt at half the cost of an encore there was no need to make them interchangeable and people would rather just buy multiple guns. I didn't have the heart to tell him that if they had made interchangeable barrels for it in a wider range of calibers I would probably buy 5 or 6 barrels.

The word from Henry is, the shot guns are already being shipped and the rifles are just about to start going out...

Now I could see one of those 44 Mag rifles turning into a 445 Supermag real fast.

OR...if your like me...mebbe that 45/70. Wonder what that receiver is rated for as far as pressure goes...if they can handle 308...it should handle more than a Contender (which I have in 45/70...and it can hurt your feelings at max trapdoor loads).

I already have several 308 chambered rifles...but not a single shot...and THAT would be my choice...turn it into a dedicated cast bullet rifle...just using trailboss that would be a very fun little rifle.

For what they are I think they're a little expensive. They're handsome rifles though, and I wouldn't mind having one if I liked the company.

These might be kind of cool. Only 300 or so dollars, and it's a Henry so you know it's going to look really nice. A 45-70 single shot might be fun to have for blowing up milk jugs and pumpkins.

I wonder how heavy the barrel is though. The 223 model is listed as 7.18 pounds on their website, while the 45-70 Govt model is listed as 6.83 pounds. I'm assuming they just start with one barrel blank and drill a bigger hole through it, but that means that everything is built to a 45-70 weight barrel.
