Hi Point 9mm Carbine, opinions please

Hi guys, thinking of purchasing one of these and was wondering if anyone on here owns one and what they think of it??? I want it for plinking at the range for both my wife and I, was going to get a RUGER 10/22 but the 9mm carbine just looks/sounds like it would be more fun and almost the same $$$$. My biggest concearn is feeding issues, nothing more frustrating then a gun that jams all the time, thanks

I have good experience with mine. Only feeding issues with standard 10rd factory magazines was with Remington UMC 115gr JHP. the Hollow cavity is too big for my gun (purchased used) to feed properly.

When they first came out a cop friend bought one to keep in his trunk,we took it out and first thought was "what piece of junk did you buy now",after 300 rounds ,100% cycling ,and nice groups,first oppinions arent always accurate.

Love mine, but I had to change that butt-ugly factory stock for the ATI... Mounted a cheap reflex red dot, and it's the instant favorite with everyone, especially first time shooters, because they can hit with it from the get go, and the low noise & recoil. Bought nine spare mags, so I can load a full box of 100 WWB at a time, 'cause I have no trouble getting people to blow up ammo by the box...

run away. parts tend to break on them, when you least expect it. Also, the lack of hig cap mags. you are better off with a beretta, or a kel tec.

I have had mine for 2 years and it has never ever failed to fire and eject. It is also pretty accurate . I did have my magazine come apart about 2 months ago. I sent the parts that I could find to Beemiller and they sent me another, no questions asked. I am the 2nd owner of this gun, and they really honor their lifetime warranty, no matter how many owners it has had. I recently bought the black ATI Technologies replacement stock for mine and it makes it look alot nicer. Great gun for the price. I would definetly buy another.

Bought one earlier this spring and have shot it quite a lot. Both my boys love it and want to have one for themselves. I have not had any feed problems, it is handy and accurate. I would like to have hi-cap mags, but I can live with 10. I do plan on getting the ATI stock. BTW I have shot both the Keltec and the Berreta and the HI-Point shoots just as well, in fact other than the hi-cap mags I like the Hi-point better than the keltec and the berreta is NOT worth 3x what the hi-point is. Just MHO.

at 2 or 3 times the cost.

simple facts are the hi point carbines are a great value, verry reliable, rugged, and surprisingly accuract.

My Hi-Point experience has been very opposite of you guys.

I'll concede that I like the ergonomics and accuracy of the weapon as well as the sights. However mine is uber-UNRELIABLE. I am lucky if I can get through one mag without a failure to function. I have tried to OEM 10 rounders, and the following ammo
*UMC 115 grain FMJ
*Igman 124 grain FMJ
*Norinco 115 grain FMJ
*Williams 124 copper plated factory reloads (worked the best- go figure)
*WWB 115 grain FMJ (bulk packs)

It is a PIA to lock the bolt back, and the bolt handle needs to periodically be retightened.

MP-510 - Contact HiPoint and send it in for repairs. I bet they fix it for free and send you a complimentary magazine for your trouble. Until you do that I wouldn't complain to much about it.

Mine has zero issues after 1K (WWB) rounds- zero jams. I shoot steel knock down 6'' targets off hand at 50 meters and never miss. It groups nicely off hand at 75 meters under 6''. At a rest 5-7'' groups is the norm at 100 meters.

If you want feeding problems buy a Ruger 10/22 and some hi cap mags. Jamomatic. Try getting free factory service on the 10/22. Try buying Ruger factory parts for the 10/22 . For plinking the ammo for the 10/22 is much cheaper but that is the only edge.

I bought a non-working High Point Carbine with a broken front sight for $50. I sent it to High Point and they completely rebuilt it for free. It has functioned flawlessly since then.

Well, I can verify mine has randomly broken parts when I least expected it.

The metal used in the HiPoints isn't very good. Very soft and wears out much quicker than a 'normal' gun.

Mine has been back to the factory 3 times. At one point I trusted it as a HD gun having fired a few hundred rounds through it with no problems, but one range trip netted me a snapped off safety which rendered the gun INOP. I hate to think of anyone needing it in a 'situation' to find the thing busted.

Your concern about not feeding is moot. Mine has always fed properly at least, probably in part due to the single stack 10rd mags.

Honestly, and this is going out on a limb here, you may want to look at a Saiga. Having gone through the whole gamut of 'cheap but fun' carbines (HiPoint, SKS, Mosin, friend's AK) I would sell both my HiPoint and SKS for one of these. They can be had for $50 more and it's well worth the grin factor at the range. My (female) friend loves 'her' SKS but frankly the sucker is so darn heavy and cumbersome for any kind of plinking fun at the range. The Saiga weighs considerably less and from what I've learned is a true AK, just in 'sporter' form.

I bought mine used for $140 (the original owner wanted to get one in 40 S&W). It does look cheap and seems it should be garbage...but...600 rds without cleaning, zero malfunctions (see next sentence), 6" groups at 100 yd, what can you ask for a carbine with a MSRP of $200. I have had problems with teh Pro Mag 15 rd mags but none with the Hi Points.

I wonder, how many of those who talk down about high-point's guns have actually owned one, or just heard through the "grapevine" that they're junk, or if they actually have one, realize that high-point has a lifetime, 100% guarantee and will repair or replace any part on the gun for free if it ever breaks.

Reading posts like RangerRuck's reminds me of the folks who will swear up and down that X brand of ammo is "utter junk" because they had 2 FTF's out of a value-pack on one range trip one time back in the 80's.

To sum it up: The carbines are going for what, less than 2 bills, OTD? Sure, they're uglier than sin, but try to find a decent plinker at that price, with that warranty. I say go for it.

I don't own any of Hi-Point's offerings, but I have shot most if not all of their models.

Ugly? Oh, yeah. Sun-dried pig-butt ugly.

Reasonably accurate? Yes

Hi-Point has one of the best warrany programs around. Doesn't work right? Send it in. They WILL make it right.

A friend of mine has one.
He brings it to the range often and
invites folks to shoot it.
I have fired it with Wolf and Wally World White Box
ammo--cheapest 9mm ammos on the market--and
it ran like a top, and klanged the metal targets at
100 meters.

I love mine, put on a ATI stock and laser, it came with the red dot.Had to fine tune the mag release so it would handle both oem and promag magazines without difficulty.A couple hundred rds so far without a hiccup. In the past I have paid far more for far less.

I have one. It currently is my HD/target gun, works great and handles great.
Perfect for anyone on a tight budget.

Oh, and I read on the hi-point forum that you can modify the 15-rounders to be more reliable. (http://hipoint.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=4396)
However I have never attempted it myself.

They're making the first run of several hundred now, to be sold in a few months. These are hand built as the tooling isn't ready for full scale production yet, but I hear that the full on production versions are a year or so away.

Bad news time, no high caps.

And it's still butt ugly.
