Hi Point Carbine

Take a hit from a 9mm or 40 cal.

Don't know of many who would care to take a 9mm or especially 40cal. slug to the heart area or in the head, even if it was from a Hi-Point Carbine! Damn I was killed by that ugly little carbine!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Its planet-of-the-apes look has grown on me.

Why would I ever want to sell it?

10 rnd magazine makes it harder for my to burn through a box of ammo, giving me more funtime at the range.

Ammo is cheap.

More accurate then a pistol at useful ranges.

Next few "better" pistol caliber carbines cost a good bit more, do the same job.

! bought one a few weeks ago. I tried it first with the factory sight and WWB FMJs. I wasn't that impressed with result. Today i shot it with some 147 LFP reloads and WOW! It was a totally different weapon. It felt like I was shooting a BB gun. Recoil was SO light and accuraccy was pretty darned good. I'll keep mine.

Any confirmation that the charging handle can be changed to the right side?

I have wanted to get one for a while now, and like the new stock much better. The only major thing holding me back is extra magazines are not cheap, and proprietary. :(

Would love to shoot one someday, then I am sure I will be hooked though

I just quickly looked around and it appears magazines for the 995 are about 20 bucks. Thats too expensive? I'm not sure what you are used to spending on magazins but 20 bucks isn't bad at all. I spend 50-75 for mags for my P7. At least the 995 came with three mags to start with and its and inexpensive weapon. You can buy the 995 and a handful of magazines and still have less invested than if you bought its competition. The others will give you more magazine capacity but I've never felt really handicapped with ten round mags. My AK uses 30 round mags if I really had that need.

Reassembly question: is there something about putting the firing pin/sleeve/spring back in and getting the bolt cover back on I'm missing? Seemed too hard to figure out why it didn't seem to fit back on (and the manual's no help for the fit and clips that hold everything together). I just wanna go shoot the darn thing!

Has no one developed a decent hi-cap mag for this thing? I would think that there would be a huge market for this. That is my biggest deterrent with the HPC, 10 rounds only. I would rather just use a pistol honestly. If I could get reliable 25-30 rounders for it, I would be all over it.

Fun little gun for sure. I probably put a couple hundred rounds through my cousin's. I couldn't believe how accurate it was. It's a good turtle gun and that's a pretty small target. (Turtles were overrunning the pond by the way. Hope I don't get flamed for that. They'll eat a lot of fish eggs though if you don't control them)

The only thing that still turns me off about the HiPoint Carbine is that dis-assembly is overly complicated. I'm used to weapons like my AK or the AR, my handguns, etc.... that are much more simple to take down. From what I've read about the Sub 2000 takedown is much simpler and you can use the higher capacity mags. Glock 33rd mags and 147 gr bullets would be a soft shooting and capable weapon to be sure. The HP only holds ten rounds but so does my SKS. I've never wished for more when a quick mag change is pretty easy.

What is it with you mag capacity guys? Do you really think Attila and his huns will come for you, or are you just afraid to load magazines? I just bought 9 extras, some cheap knife sheaths at the flea market, and load a full box of 100 at once, string 'em on an old belt bandolier-style, and I'm good to go.

Ah, I had seen them at the shows for much more than that. That is a reasonable price. They always seem to sell used with only one mag though?

What's with high capacity magazines? Occasionally I have to squeeze a range session in between other activities and taking three 30 round magazines pre-loaded to the range (M1 carbine or M70AB2) allows more time for practice shots than taking a gun with 10 round magazines. If I have a whole afternoon clear, I'll take a single shot muzzleloader and take all the time in the world. But sometimes range time is squeezed into a tight schedule and high capacity magazines reduce reload/load time. Plus high capacity magazines were standard equipment for military collectibles. I have shot my friend's 995 and feel that one with a ten round magazine would be perfectly adequate for home defense (but then I prefer a six-shot Ruger for that).

Why would I want to have to buy 9 magazines, load 9 magazines, and carry 9 magazines when I could do the same with 3 real mags? My mag pouch doesn't even carry 9 mags. So, now I have to go out and buy 7 more mag pouches too? Your "logic" makes no sense.

Who are you, Bill Ruger?

I don't think we are asking too much to have some real mags instead of these neutered CA-compliant mags.

...I have nothing against hi-cap mags, but hey, I've had the AK w/30 rounders, and they're heavy, cumbersome, and downright get in the way when trying to shoot from a rest. And I won't even get into taping a couple together to Rambo around with 8-10 pounds of mag & ammo while shooting. My AK was way more fun to shoot with the 5-rounders, and I could use a rest without the protrusion. Now if you just go to blow up ammo, the Hi-caps would work best, but I'm an accuracy guy, and don't get off by trying to incinerate my stock...

Its not like I wouldn't love to be able to use hi-cap mags in my HiPoint. I just dont' see it as a deal breaker. My H&K P7 takes single stack mags. It doesn't make it any less of an awesome weapon.

I've had an older Hi-Point 995 for over a year now and I love this little gun. Yes, yes it's an Ugly Duckling and yes they're cheap but don't get "cheap" confused with "poor quality." I've had zero problems with my Hi-Point and that's even when running it with WOLF steel ammo. I put an ATI Storm stock on mine to, shall we say, lessen the "shock and awe" of the look of the gun to something a little more pleasing to the eye and it's a total winner in my book!

Josh, is the mag well on the ATI any improvement over the stock one? I can't think of a weapons that has as clunky of a mag well as the HP.

Finally got to fire my 40 and man, that is a fun, accurate little gun. The length really makes those 40 rounds POP, and I put a 4x scope on it yesterday so my day off at the end of the week should be plinkeriffic.

Charging handle can simply be unscrewed and screwed in on the other side of the bolt; I like having it on the left since it handles more like a pistol anyway.

mcdonl, is that so? I've been kicking around the idea of ordering a TS stock to fit on my 995 but it seemed the grip was the same as the original so I wasn't going to. Do you have any idea what was changed?

Nope, I just know that the mag fits nice and tight and my last one (standard 995...) was a little sloppy. May just be they are getting better at it?
