100% with you Pazz, the slides on the handguns scare me, but if it's what people can afford, it's better than nothing.
My old man has the 9mm carbine... it surprised the heck out of me. I can't shoot rifles much because of bad shoulders, but most of my long gun experience is old Mausers, a lever action .30.30, and assorted old .22s
Surprisingly accurate, It's his screwing around rife, scooped for $180 used. The prior owner destroyed every threaded point and overstressed the frame.
It still shoots well. He's replaced the factory bolt handle with an oversized one for our big mitts, and for some reason he took a laser/led flashlight I picked up at Radioshack for $7 and mounted it to the barrel... and the sad thing is even slap-dashed on it's nearly to POA at 50 yards.
The Green-dot sight and the laser popping up together actually work pretty well

I bought a Hi-Point .45 new in '03 for $130.
Sold it to a pawn shop for $80 in 2010.
Say what you want about Hi-Points, but the gun worked.
Was it nice to carry? No.
Pretty? No.
Easy to work on? No.
Long term durability? Who knows.
But it worked. If somebody didn't have a lot of money and wanted something cheap to leave in the nightstand, it was OK.

My brother gave me a Hi-Point C9 some 13 years ago. Nobody really knew much about them back then. I've kept it around all these years since it didn't cost me anything. But then again if I try to sell it I'm only going to get $70 or so. It's pretty much a paper weight to me. It does shoot when you pull the trigger...at times.

I think they're providing an important, and fairly large, niche product. There have always been inexpensive guns, and despite what people say about the "ignorant" and crime, they're not making them for dimwits and gangsters. They're making them for people who need them but can't afford something better. For that, I'm glad they exist.
They're also good for trying out a design or caliber that you don't want to risk a bunch of money on.
All that said, my dad has a 9mm carbine kit and really enjoys it, almost to the point of being proud. I've shot it and it does what it's supposed to.

I agree completely. MY Hi-Point got me interested in handguns. I've simply outgrown mine, plus I can't seem to make the newer HP mags, with the feed lips, work reliably in that gun. It's original mag had no lips, it was just smooth. Now I'd own one of the carbines no questions asked. I hear they are pretty reliable.
Hi-point stands behind the guns they sell!! My Brother sent back a 45 carbine that suffered a factory Remington squib + a round with enough powder to push out the squib destroyed barrel, and they sent him a new rifle. Cant beat that! plus it shoots very well when your not loading squibs

I love my Hi-Point .45 and will probably never get rid of it. It just works too well and is very accurate.

This weekend I sold my Hi Point JHP .45 acp, and
now I am officially Hi Point-less.
No plans to ever get such a low cost weapon again. Well,
not their handguns but, I might get one of the carbines
some day
i don't really see the point of this thread, unless it's to instigate a Hi Point bashing party, and we've seen enough of those already.
