Yep, I'm a bigger Hi-Power fan, however I love both designs. the only thing that draws me toward the Hi-Power over the 1911 is the following: I don't like the swinging link under the bbl. I feel the HP's bbl cam design is stronger, it also shoots just as well as the 1911 without the detachable bbl bushing. I also prefer the HP's safety not having to depend on a staked-on plunger tube on the side of the frame. Lastly, I don't like the grip screw bushings of the 1911.
things I don't like about the HP: that has got to be one of te worst factory triggers in the world, with no hope of being better with time/use without the help of a pistolsmith. I also do not care for the mag safety, nor the mag that doesn't drop free.
Having said all this, both HP and the 1911 certainly has worked masterfully for nearly 75 & 100yrs respectively. I was issued a 1911a1 and had absolute confidence in it, while in harm's way.
The colt commander in .38 super just happens to be one of my favorite sidearms, but given the choice between it and the HP.......I'd choose the HP every time. HAPPY HUNTING
