Any arguments over guns during Christmas?

My sonand I had our annual conversation about his 1911 and my P85, while FirstInLine just sat there and smiled, thinking about her .357s. :D

My family is pretty pro gun. We talked and argued, but it was about little piddly stuff and of course "The War of Northern Aggression" vs. "Civil War" conversation......

My little brother is a Marine and my dad likes all the history/military stuff so we talked about all kinds of guns. Little brother also bought me a Knoxx Spec Ops for my 870 express. Pretty cool huh?

My father is 81 and his eyes aren't what they used to be. He has an old pellet gun inherited from my Grand father, his father in law (I think the barrel is brass?) with a peep sight that he can't see any longer.:(
For his last birthday I bought him a new pellet gun with a good scope on it. On Christmas day he was about to dispatch a furry tailed tree rat when my sister objected. She is an animal lover/vegitarian and self proclaimed pacifist. She said that it was wrong to shoot anything on Christmas. Bad karma and such:rolleyes: After a minor argument Pop said fair enough and put the gun back behind the door where he keeps it.
I later over heard Mom tell him "It's okay dear, shoot it tomorrow.":p

No problems. I don't think it is appropriate to carry or even talk about guns on at a time that is supposed to celibrate the Prince of Peace.

Huh?

A gun is a TOOL. That tool is peaceful or not-- depending on the person that possesses it. Carrying a firearm or SPEAKING of one is irrelevant to the very notion of peace. What you carry in your HEART is the only thing relevant in that respect.

So what exactly were we supposed to do when opening presents? I got a Remington 870 from my wife, one of my nephews got a Remington Model 7 .243 Winchester, and the other nephew got a 7mm-08. My Father-in-Law got a Colt 1911A1 .45 ACP.

You can't very well just sit there and stare at one another. We went shooting! I think Jesus smiled.

Mild disagreement over whether Obama REALLY (deep down inside) wants to pass strict gun control / bans. I said yes, he said no. He is an Obama lover. But same relative asked me for recommendations on a home defense shotgun and also showed me his Beretta PX4 Storm pistol.

Yeah the Prince of Peace did not object to tools - he admonished followers to turn their plowshares into swords, IIRC.

Why are the police called to disputes and crime scenes? Why are they (the police) called there? What makes them so special? What do they carry?

I'm getting an empathetic migrane headache for you poor bastards....having to answer to your ladies the way you do. Been there....done that....ALL DONE WITH THAT. I guess I'm kind of lucky that way. The girls I've dated know they are "dating a cop" and that weapons just go along with the territory.
I'll still be able to buy guns once I'm married and have kids, but the days of spending $800+ in one purchase will be long gone. I might be able to pick up a new pistol or hunting rifle every now and then, but if I know what's good for me, I'll be getting all of my class III toys before those medical bills and college funds ever enter the picture.

My girl is very happy that I carry a gun and will always support me being able to do so. We both believe that it is a man's responsibility to protect his family and that any man worth his salt can do that without having to rely on the kindness of others. She has her own gun and in the years to come she will probably end up with more as well (gifts from me, of course). She likes to shoot with me, and she likes the security of knowing that where ever we go I can protect her. I know I've got a pretty special girl and when I'm ready to support a family we will probably get married. I mean this is the kind of girl that supported me when I went through my open carry phase. Any girl that will put up with that is not the kind of girl you walk away from. She actively supported Ron Paul with me, and we both donated our time and what little money we had to his campaign. I can't tell you how lucky I am to have such a great girlfriend. Anyway, I know I'm rambling, so I'll end my post. Thanks for the kind words.

Explained to a couple of my second cousins about concealed carry in Ohio. Showed them my license. Told them I had 19 handguns (I think that's all.) This seemed to surprise them. :)

Explained how when I went hunting in Missouri in November, I carried all the way through Ohio and Indiana, then had to disarm in Illinois and rearm in Missouri. Told them there were TWO states in the country without citizen CCW, Illinois and Wisconsin.

My male cousin wants to come to Ohio and shoot some time. :)

I have found it to be a pointless discussion of principles. It wastes time and gets people mad. Not good for families especially during the holidays.

My extended family is pretty divided on the gun issue. In general they support ownership at the current regulatory level and are either neutral of anti-EBR for civilian ownership. Neutral means they don't want to discuss it (not anti EBR).

Not this holiday, but at Thanksgiving, during deer hunting season, my nephews 'girl' went on about hunting and guns being bad, all the while stuffing her fat face.

Jesus in my own words, told his disiples to first go out with no purse. But then changed his mind after they had, and then told them to sell their coats and to buy a sword.

Looking a bit more:

Then he said to them, "But now whoever has a wallet must take it along, and his traveling bag, too. And the one who has no sword must sell his coat and buy one.

The only problem I have with buying guns, and where my wife is concerned, is that she wants every gun i get! Sometimes this leads to duplicate guns since I shoot lefty. The last thing a man can do is say NO it's mine when she is holding a loaded gun in HER hands! :banghead:

i had to hold my tounge when my Mother in Law told me that her Norinco handgun that cost $125 was the best thing on the market , and the reason that it was so awesome was the fact that it had German " gearwork".

" I don't think it is appropriate to carry or even talk about guns on at a time that is supposed to celibrate the Prince of Peace."

As criminals and nut bags don't share those moral values, I don't disarm at the hight of crazy season. You might want to rethink that position. Good luck. ;)

I did'nt have any this year, but last christmas my wifes grandmother found out that we bought each other guns for christmas. She asked me what are you going to do, join the militia now? You should have saw the look on her face, when I told her that it is ohio law that any able bodied man between 18 and 67 is a member of the ohio militia. The look on her face was priceless.:D

and its probably not appropriate to put up christmas trees that could be seen as false idols, lie to kids about Santa, spend money on worldly things, or make decisions on what is or isnt appropriate for others...and yet, here we are...

Guns keep the peace, so it seems appropriate by definition.

Incredibly, not everything is about guns. Nor does every conversation have to include guns.

My sister in law (God rest her soul some day)
Nice attitude. Especially on Christmas.

I don't have the slightest idea how we got to talking about guns but I asked her straight up why she is so anti gun when her grandpa was so pro gun.
Bolding mine. Conversations take two people. If you knew her to be so stridently anti, why did you allow there to be a conversation?

She cannot form a logical argument to save her life so her response was no surprise. She said "I see bad things on the news and I'm afraid for my children's safety."
If you got something you didn't want for Xmas; maybe you can return it and get a book about logic. You may not agree with her reason, but there is no logical flaw in it.

Well the more a person tries to reason with this woman, the more defensive she gets, and the more defensive she gets, the more she talks and changes the subject.
So she wanted to get off the subject of guns, but you wouldn't let her?

I of course carry, and she likes to stick her nose into other people's business. I said that if you see me, then I'm carrying.
So in an argument where at least one person was getting escalated, you felt the need to proclaim that you were carrying a gun?

She demands that people disarm before entering their house (which she refers to as hers).
If she lives there, it is her house. I'm guessing her name is on the deed/mortgage/lease. IAC, it isn't your house.

She knows I won't disarm, and I haven't been to "her" house in many months, but it wasn't stated that I shouldn't come over if I'm carrying...that is until yesterday.
Now you are contradicting yourself. You just got done telling us that she does demand people disarm before coming into her house. You are a part of the group referred to as "people" are you not? This sounds like when you were going to her house, you were carrying there against her wishes.

You posted this expecting a chorus of sympathy and +1's, I know; but you don't appear to have done anything but behave badly, IMO. There are times when the only correct response is to smile and change the subject.

Once more.

Understanding why I felt the need to buy the expesive guns now, she has approved my purchase.

Why does your girlfriend have to "approve" your purchase? It's your money, isn't it? :scrutiny:

My family is largly anti, but I won't ask them to carry and I wont disarm for them

Thankfully, father in-law and brother are pro and provide firearm related gifts every year. Very fun. The antis keep their mouths shut, just like we do when they mention how great Obama is. No arguing. We tolerate each others positions. Works well.

I don't talk guns unless someone brings it up and it never fails that someone brings it up because I am the resident gun enthusiast around these parts. I don't really care that they don't like it or are freaked by it but I ask them if they would rather I have my gun or if a criminal had the gun.

No arguments this holiday season over guns but that's because I stopped talking to a lot of idiots too.

As for having a supportive family, they stopped trying after I told them I am not leaving my gun in the car just for a family gathering. If they don't like it, I don't have to be there. Criminals don't take any time off, so why should I?
