How did you learn about THR?

A member here posted on a golf forum that this site was the equivalent of that forum, except focusing on gun issues.

I stay because there is a lot to learn. Prior to joining I was into semiauto handguns only. Became interested in revolvers after reading many of the threads here and now am hooked.

Started on TFL; but I come here more because there's more in the "news" and "legal" portions...I visit General and Legal alot. And because THR is a genereal site and I can see info on rifles, handguns, etc in one swoop. If I want to know something specific, such as on a rimfire handgun, or on berettas, I go to rimfirecentral or the berettaforum.

I was trying to find info on something gun related, can't really remember what and happened upon THR. I liked the fact that there were several categories and topics and started coming back to look and finally joined.

I've looked at other sites (firearm related) but like this one best.

Like many others, I was a member of TFL, and moved here when it shut down. Why stay? This may surprise you but it's a combination of a number of members with exceptional expertise, and the way the site is moderated.

Other sites I might go to, but don't are often badly moderated or too limited to a specific brand or type of firearm. My interests are more wide, and encompass more subjects.

There is no doubt in my mind that the factors I mentioned above are the principal reasons for the forum's growth.

If I recall, I was searching for information concerning a particular firearm and the search engine listed THR as one of interest. After reading several threads, seeing the level of posters and their knowledge/interest I decided to register.

I am a member and one of the moderators of a Harley tech forum that frowned on gun related posts. They / we were not anti-gun but maintain a heavy hand on the reins to keep out personal attacks and political agendas (very High Road like). Inevitably a few would get so worked up the gun threads had to be locked or deleted.

I really enjoy my firearms and figure there is always more to learn about anything. I went looking for a place with the same standards but focused on guns instead of bikes. I arrived here shortly before the split.

Fortunately the bike forum I am on now has a general page where any topic is allowed if the discussion is kept civil. I refer a lot of folks here with questions on firearms.

I found this site after running a Google search regarding information about a new firearm purchase. I have stayed because of the wide range of topics and excellent information that is posted here. Plus, all my firearm related Google searches lead to THR anyway....

like most others i found THR through a google search. i wasn't really looking for a forum, just reasonable knowledge.
i am a member of several forums. most are very good. the one (forum) i just left had an unpleasant personality that really put me off.

forums do have a personality. the mods character tends to come through and sets the tone of the forum.
i keep coming back to THR because i like it's personality. i like the people too. there is a kind of maturity here that is not often found on other forums.

Google and TFL brought me here. Honesty, civility and a vast knowledge base here keeps me coming back. Those who spend much time here seem to be helpful and kind. Legends in their own minds tend to move on.

I am much obliged to the moderators and those who work behind the scenes to make this board work so well. They work hard to quell the tendency of online boards to devolve into the 6th grade playground model.

If we are in need of blather, bloviation, and BS there is no shortage of other boards in which to find them. They have their place, but this is more like home for me.

When I was researching gun safes three years ago Google would show various gun safe threads and so I went ahead and joined not long after that.
I have been on several hunting and motorcycle forums over the years and some of the arguments about carrying guns while touring the nation on a few of the motorcycle forums would get really, really ugly.
Honestly it appeared most of the virulent anti's were from the heavily populated Northeast of the nation or the Pacific Northwest, which on the latter kind of surprised me.
A lot of the time the threads got locked down.
I will be honest and say at times the moderation here compared to most sites I have visited or joined does seem a bit heavy handed and this has been a little hard to get use to.
I will say I have learned a good bit here about gun safes and more so handguns.
Until I started visiting here practically all my interest in firearms were long guns and since joining here I have purchased no less than four handguns and got off my can and got my Texas CHL and now carry daily.

i found it on google and i come back because its a great source of entertainment and not much else.
as a mod on another forum,i also get a good laugh at the reasoning behind about half of the closed threads.

Don't remember exactly how I "discovered" The High Road. I "think" a friend told me about it, but that WAS a few years ago.

Why do I keep coming back? Several actually. One is the open Forum and large amount of information discussed covering many topics that are kept on point to gun or gun-related subjects (usually :D ). But just as important, to me, is that most everyone here seems genuinely interested in answering and/or helping the person who posts the original thread. I know some folks may be postering or blowing smoke, but for the most part, posters truly seem to try and help. The Mods are doing an excellent job to ensure that the exchange of information flows and not allowing any thread to become a personal soapbox. I personally have had "my hand slapped" for inappropriate posts, and I respect them for that. It kept me focused on the topic and not drift.

One of my favorite parts of THR is the "Classifieds" section. Such wonderful goodies out there for the open marketplace. Good old American supply-and-demand economics with a Second Amendment flare. What's not to like?

I was surfing the web and this place, plus the firing line kept coming up as the places to look.

I watched the forum for a while and others, and noticed how well the modes and other members politely policed the forum and how well the members are knowledgeable. It’s a great place to hang out so I decided to join.

Keep up the good work…

I found THR through internet searches on reviews of firearms I was interested in. I would be given links to THR threads with owners experiences with their new guns or used guns. The same search led me to other forums as well.

After years of lurking, I finally became a member about a year ago, because I absolutely had to see some pics at THR of a Kahr with a shortened grip and short magazines. I can't remember if that was a CW9 or not, or which member posted the pics. You can blame that member for my presence. :D

I was googleing pics of AR's and come accross some pics on here by member readyontheright (not sure about spacing or capitalization) I think it was of a match he was in.

As far as why I stay, well the people and the info. This was my first (and still only) forum I participate in. Some may remember I had a rough begining here before I learned how to conduct myself in an internet forum. I learned to treat it like a crowded room. The code of conduct here has made it where I just never left.

The info here is pretty accurate. If someone spews some garbage its pretty obvious and it is corrected.

Oh and I have met some awesome people through the trading post as well.

Like many others I originally came here because of google. I keep coming back because there is a great deal of firearms knowledge here & the site is well moderated.

I found it while looking for info on XD45's. I like the knowledge and civility. It's OK to own a XD here... :)

Like many others, every time I googled a gun related question, THR kept coming up. I finally just said the heck with it and joined. From then on when I had a question, I just asked it here.
I haven't visited many forums other than this, but I've tried a few. THR gets more traffic and more posts. I also agree that the mods here do a good job of keeping things high road and limiting the political arguments. I like that. If I wanted to argue politics, I would join a forum that focused on that particular subject.
The guys here are also very knowledgable about handloading, which I was contemplating getting into when I joined and I found their advice to be very helpful.
Great place!

Found through gun club newsletter , keep coming back because you can ask just about any ? and get several highroad answers.:)

Like many others, I was looking for answers to gun questions through google and it kept leading me here. Seemed like knowledgeable people, which can be found at many gun related forums, but without the foul language and pissing contests common in other places. So google got me here, and the strong knowledge base and polite membership got me to sign up and stay.

How did I learn about THR? From TFL.

Why do I keep coming back? THR and TFL cover a broad range of topics and supplement the dozen or so platform-specific sites that I also frequent.

I found THR when I was googling for reloading information. And like a bad penny, I keep coming back!

I am an admin on a Chevy truck forum with 30,000 members. Keeping the standards high is not an easy task. A few years back we had some problems with dishonest parts sellers. The solution was to require sellers to be paid members. Then if a deal goes south we have some control.
