How did you find THR?

Sorta kinda a TFL refugee too... but not really. :uhoh:

A friend from college (Azrael256) clued me in to TFL, but it shut down before he had a chance to take me shooting. He then told me about THR, and my first post was on the horror-thread about Camel spiders and the like. I remember sugesting that someone use .458 Lott on it, since that was the largest caliber I'd heard of at the time (thanks Ruger 2003 catalog :p ). Since then, I've been addicted to The High Road, the single greatest place I've ever gathered info from in relation to stuff I'm actually interested in. :)

Thanks, Oleg. :)

And curse you, Azrael. If you hadn't taken me shooting that early February day in 2003, I'd be a few thousand dollars richer. :banghead: :cuss:

But not as happy. :D

I also was a residue of the fallout from the closing of TFL.

If you hover your mouse over the name of the poster in the thread, and explorer will tell you on the status bar what their member number is... Mine is early, 65, I found a link that somebody had and found a back door thru and registered.

Someone else asked about the story of the fall of TFL. I'll second that. What happened with TFL, did it just close temporarily? I see it's functional now...

Sometime back, someone posted the question on 1911Forum.com, "What other good internet firearms forums are out there?" and so many of the responding posts led off with "The High Road" that I figured I'd better check it out ...

Tough question. I wandered in and haven't looked for the exit. I think that I found out about this from Sixgunner.com or huntamerica.com or packing.org

Derek Zeanah provided space on his server and I wondered over there, made myself comfortable, invited guests and the party hasn't stopped since except to move to another server once :D

Rich Lucibella, who ran/runs TFL, had a lot on his plate a few years back. Something had to give. He no longer had time to devote to TFL. Since TFL was his in so many minds he didn't feel comfortable just turning it over to others (especially understandable since he had recently bought SWAT magazine so he had to protect his reputation and couldn't have no control over something that was now tied to his reputation). So he closed down the forums in December of 2002 and made it read only. He gave us enough warning that several new forums (like this one) popped up, and some existing ones got a huge infusion of new blood. This is the largest of the new ones, and getting most of the mods, and more of the members, it was the closest to the "culture" of TFL.

TFL remained closed for a couple years, but just over a year ago (more or less) Rich decided to reopen it. Of course, with so many people scatttered, and even those who came back now spending more time on their new boards, TFL isn't anything near what it used to be (but then, as good as THR is it may not be quite what TFL was at the end either). TFL as it was will always be missed.

It all started with a discussion over on g503.com concerning which pintle mount was correct for a mid-war Willys MB. Someone mentioned that they were looking for a semi-auto 1919, and a link was provided to 1919A4.com and I went out of curiosity. Lurking there exposed a link to the FAL Files, where someone mentioned a thread here. The rest, as they say, is history.

I saw several references to and a link to THR while perusing THE FILES which is my home while this is my vacation cabin.

As much as I enjoy THR the Files has been my home for 3 1/2 years and I dont see any reason to leave.

I usually have a window open for each site and go back and forth :D

I was looking up gun laws and found packing.org. From there someone linked to a discussion at THR and I've been coming here since.

All Jim March's fault

He spoke at a NRA members council meeting in marin and I went to his website and packing org.
and he directed me here...so everyone that hates me please direct your hate mail to jim!

Also Jim taught me how to post pictures on www.craigslist.org which got me booted as well.
the nice liberals at www.craigslist.org got so angry at me that they sent in some kind of bug into my last computer that fried it when I logged on!
All I did was include a pic of the bill of rights.
if you want to sell your teen daughter to a massage parlor the folks at "progressive" www.craigslist.org will help but God help you if you try to sell or discuss gun stuff there

I was looking for info on how to make an armored assualt wheelbarrow and google led me right here.

Seriously I found out about this place from Bill St.Clair's blog.

I can't remember for sure but I think I typed in "gun forum" on Yahoo out of curiosity and saw this and one other one (probably TFL) and chose this one because I saw it first.
