How did you learn about THR?

Google searches kept leading me here over and over with best reasoned responses found more often than not.
So I guess its the community's knowledge that separates this site from others.
Also the main point/rules of the site is why I stay. (not overly tacticool, no partisan hackery, no zombie fantasies, etc.)
Learned a ton from you guys here, couldn't be more grateful.

This

Almost every time i typed in a gun related search topic into google, thehighroad.org was always listed and always seemed to have the best and most well rounded information.

Just stumbled upon THR when lloking for some info on 40 s&w loads. By the way, when did TFL close?

Every time I was googling a question I had, the answers were here.

Same thing got me here, the knowledge. The rules on this board keep people civil. If you take away rules 1, 3,or 4, I'll probably be gone shortly after that.

Thanks for all ya'll do BTW.

Same answer as several others. THR had the best information.

While trying to find the answers to a variety of firearm questions, searches kept directing me to THR threads that contained the most thorough, well reasoned, and correct responses of all the gun boards online.

I stay for the wealth of knowledge and the civil interaction between users (in great part thanks to the mods).

Googled sharpening knives.

Lurked for about a month and sucked up a bunch of knowledge on knives and guns.

Liked the feel of the place.

Joined.

Made some real good friends.

Began contributing.

Still here and could not imagine THR not in my life.

I used to be active on the old packing.org forum. I followed a number of references posted on PDO to here. When packing.org began its decline, I found myself spending more time here.

I found this site after it was mentioned on TFL, I spent a little time surfing this site and then decided to join it as well.

I find that each site has a bit of a different feeling to it, and as such I enjoy being a member of each forum. I find the two forums are very complementary to one another, in the sense that they offer different view points on the same subject.

I was back in TFL days, when it died,I went to other forums.....old aquantance, DeputyVaughn, finally got me back here.Have lost post counts several times...LOL

Google pointed me in this direction often enough to take notice, and the quality and civility of the discourse here eventually persuaded me to stay.

After enough Google searches pointed me this way I finally decided to sign up. Have to say I'm definitely better off because of it, too. The Handloading forum itself is a veritable gold mine!

The list of reasons are long, but I will try....

Walkalong
rcmodel
justin
coromo
sam1911
ssnvet
frogo207

The list goes on and on.... THR is great because of WHO comes here.

I feel as though I am what us wrong with it half the time.

As a newer shooter, I stumbled across it while googling info on a particular gun topic. Can't remember exactly what that topic was. As I searched more and more topics, THR kept coming up. The posters were noticeably more reasonable and knowledgeable on average than other sites I came across, with less bravado and machismo BS, probably due to the strong moderation of the site. I also appreciated the lack of avatars and flashing ads and whatnot. I lurked and learned for awhile before I decided it was worth joining. I later joined TFL as well, but I have a total of like 5 posts over there. This is really the only firearms forum I regularly read.

Was looking for info in reloading 30.06 for my Garand the search engine brought me here liked what I saw and read.

Just learned about THR. Had some friends tell me about it. Already posted in the research section.

Five years ago, while looking to upgrade
my SD and hunting tools, I searched the i'net.

I found TFL, which led me to THR.

I was originally looking for an HD shotgun and a semi-auto handgun.
Found the best shotgun advice here (in some of Dave McC's threads)
and upgraded my handgun to a Kahr K9.

Then, I started looking for my first hunting rifle in decades.
I found tons of good info on bolts, pumps and lever actions.
(I settled on levers; see sig line.)

Later, after much reading and range experience,
I decided I was more of a rifle and revolver guy. (See sig line.)

During that time, I learned that I could also learn much about non-firearm weapons
here, like knives and FMA (Filipino Martial Arts = stick fighting; see sig line).

I also found that I could learn orders of magnitude more about responsible gun ownership and use,
gun safety (especially the four rules), legalities, RKBA and related issues here than anywhere else.

Add impeccable moderation (not that I agree 100% of the time, but it works)
and a very intelligent, caring, level-headed bunch of folks, and ...
well, I've been here for over five years.

THR is my main SD/hunting tool home on the i'net.

I was asking a lot of questions on the firearms board on a Harley forum and finally somebody said that I should check this out. I come here because it always had good info. I have learned so much in such a short time. I especially like the fact that I very rarely see people getting offended at a question and demanding use of the search feature. What good is a forum if you can't talk, who cares the frequency of the subject? Maybe I would not have even known about something without seeing it up front. In summary I would have to say the people make it worthwhile.

I found this place through a strictly concealed carry discussion forum. I like THR because it provides for a broad variety of subjects to be explored and discussed. I like how the boards are moderated fairly. There's no picking on the new people, no "I'm the mod's friend so I can get away with trash talk". This is also one of the largest searchable resources I've found to do product research with on google.

Wow! Hard to believe it's been 5 years...

After a woman and her daughter were carjacked and raped two towns over, I sobered up and realized that I was not well prepared to protect the ones I love. I began researching concealed carry and landed here via. Google searches.

Though I had grown up with some trigger time, had owned a shotgun and two handguns, and had some trigger time in the Navy, I really didn't have a lot of technical knowledge about firearms. I still remember my first posts questioning the difference between .38 spl, .38 super, 380 auto. and .357 mag.

Its been a fun journey and today I consider myself fairly knowledgeable and attribute 75% of that to THR.

As other's have mentioned, the level of courtesy, civility and acceptance of novices are noticeably higher here than many other of the gun boards. And as one that is prone to rant, I honestly feel that THR has taught me to be more civilized and courteous (wishing I could go back and delete some of the archived political rants I participated in  ).

Though I've found myself needing to look to other platform specific boards for my more technical interests (1911 & BHP gunsmithing) I expect I'll be hanging around this community for some time to come.

Thanks to all who have shared so freely of their knowledge and wisdom.

When I was getting more into guns I did a lot of searching about various topics. Time after time a link to THR showed up on google. I started to lurk a bit and then post, and just sort of stuck around.

I was searching for some kind of info...oh, it was on the short-lived series on the Military Channel where the guy runs around doing solo infiltration missions. Anyway, a THR thread came up and I read through, checked out the site and joined up.

Got link from the Kimber Forum after it's  demise years ago. Thanks for the site :)
