I have posted a few threads about a hog/deer rig I am buying. .308 Savage Weather Warrior, Accustock/Accutrigger, left hand. I found it on Gunbroker, and snapped it up on 1/16.

I called to confirm it was in stock, and then proceeded to buy it. I called & provided my credit card, and sent an email with my FFL's info all within 10 minutes of placing the bid. He promptly posts an "A+" buyer rating for me.

The seller attended SHOT, so I was told to expect a delay. He is in OK, so they were iced in when SHOT was over. More delays, but I am fine with it.

On 1/27, my FFL calls, he has the rifle. A Remmy 700 in .22-250. Not what I ordered. I sent an email to the seller, and they responded that they would send a "call tag" to my FFL. No apology, no ETA for the new rifle, no offer of a break in shipping for the fast approaching 3 week delay. I'm still OK, though. Deer season is a ways off, no biggie. This is a hard rifle to find, so I am sticking with it.

3 days go by, so I send another email asking ONLY for an ETA. Nothing. 2 days later, I followup with another email asking again only for an ETA. Nothing. Then an email from the seller that I would need to buy somewhere else, that I obviously could not wait, and that a refund had already been sent.

I never asked for a refund. I never even expressed impatience. I sent two emails, three days apart, asking ONLY for an eta, and this guy wigs out. This is a high volume seller, with a 99% rating on GB. After several now thoroughly heated emails, I tell him I still just want the rifle, and am willing to pay the original price. He refuses, and asks that I find another seller. No other explanation.

Now for the best part. After hitting the brick wall with him, I post the only GB feedback that fits, an "F" with the above explanation. He responds by changing my initial "A+" to an "F", sends an email that I should enjoy my new rating, and in a beautiful act of extortion, tells me that he will reverse his if I reverse mine. NO FREAKING WAY.

What should I do? This jerk may hurt my ability to order from GB.

They have no category for this. They have a site for protesting seller fraud, and checking any of those choices simply takes you to the seller's contact info to work it out. GB has a disclaimer that they will not get into this kind of situation, that they are a listing site, and that victims should sue or prosecute the seller. Neither option fits, I just want my rating corrected.

Well call or e-mail the guy and see if you can talk it out and why he was so abrasive.... or find out where he lives (that's what I would do).

I am done with online auction crap. I just had a deal on Ebay today that really gets my panties in a wad. I bought a guitar using buy it now. A couple of hours later the guy emails me and tells me that he accidently listed the thing twice and I wasn't getting it. He is supposed to refund my money, but I haven't seen it yet.:banghead::cuss:

I buy all of my guns locally and I think that may be a good policy for everything.

AK - unfortunately, you might be SOL from the way you describe things. I'd wait for the refund to show up, then call it a wash and move on. If the refund doesn't show up, then raise holy hell.

Stuff like this is what keeps me from buying a gun (or anything else, for that matter) through online auction sites. I just don't trust people to hold up their end of the deal.

I have purchased several items on GB and never had a problem. In fact, they have all been exceptional transactions until now. I am forced to search the world. As a lefty, my in-store options are near ZERO for a bolt gun.

Next time, try gunsinternational.com; for the time being, post the feedback, have GB give you his hometown and go through their BBB. Secondly, if not against the rules, post the name and your opinion to let others know

Will your local store not special order a lefty for you?
Yes, but at a $200+ premium. Cabela's is searching for this specific rifle. They are running a realy good sell on this specific model, and they are checking to see if they can honor the sale price, assuming they can find the gun. I can order through Savage's preferred vendor, but it is full retail all the way.

Gunbroker claims that if a seller fails to deliver the stated merchandise after being paid, it's bye-bye seller. I would try to take it up with them at least a little further.

The feedback thing is a racket. No advice on that.

Basically, you gave an F for no reason. Fs are for failure of everything. I do believe they deserved a D though. You did get a refund.

The seller obviously is not too customer service oriented even to the point of giving up on one of his buyers. If I were to guess I would say the seller did not have the rifle and was in the process of trying to order another one and could not get it so he just gave up on it and you.

And GunBroker has horrible customer service and fraud protection. Good luck.

I don't know if it's feasible, but I'd send a complaint to Gunbroker.com with the documentation (emails) that show you were mistreated. Then, if you have the backup, I'd sing it from the highest mountain--tell the story, identifying the offender, in every gun forum and enthusiast venue you are a member of. If your story is accurate, they deserve it.

A similar experience on eBay caused me to stop using that website--years of perfect ratings, then an experience with an unscrupulous seller who, after not even shipping my goods, retaliated against my negative rating with one of his own. It was a frustrating experience that soured me on the whole system.

What part of the transaction did he not fail at? Dismal communication, rude, slow, inaccurate (He sent the WRONG rifle), and still, after 3 weeks I have no rifle and no explanation, just a refund I did not request.

I do, however, have a DNZ one piece mount for this specific rifle, a Nikon 3X9X40, a sling and sidesaddle and 10 boxes of various .308 factory loads. I have no use for of any of this if I cannot find a replacement.

Correction: He was told that his money was being refunded. Nowhere has the OP mentioned actually receiving said refund.

I have not received the refund yet, but I am not worried about it. I did get an email from a friendly staffer stating it was in process & I was copied on the receipt for the request sent to my CC company.

I would posts copies of the transaction info, and let everyone who is interested know how the joker operates! Good transactions deserve a good rev. The above deserves tar, feathers, and rode out on a rail.

I've ordered one gun over the Internet. It wasn't GunBroker, but rather JGsales.com. The transaction was not smooth at all. The gun that originally came was the same model (870P), but was in an absolutely horrible condition. They allowed me to return the gun, and they sent out a used gun in excellent condition. Still, the ordeal with the FFL and the time wasted going back-and-forth was not worth the savings.

I'll pay an extra $100+ bucks on a gun just to buy locally. I used to wonder why experienced shooters even bothered with the high prices at the local shops. Now, I know at least one good reason.

File a dispute with GB. I had to do it once, and it worked out just fine. I got my refund and returned the misrepresented item. Just explain the details of what happened in the dispute form.

Time to find another store. I called a local store to see what they could order a left handed Tikka stainless lightweight in 243 for. They said $609. GB has it for between $599 and $630.

Then I asked about a LH stainless stalker (Browning) in 30-06. They said $919. I can get it from Discount Gunner on GB for ~$864 + shipping.

Whoever's trying to charge you an extra $200 just to order it is ripping you off.
