Avoiding a caliber war, how has your chosen CCW caliber changed during the time you've been carrying? Did you start out carrying a small caliber and move to a larger one, or vice-versa? Maybe you haven't changed at all.

I have moved up in power considerably. I carried a 22mag when I started, then played around with a few calibers before settling on a NAA .32 for daily carry. As soon as NAA built a .380, I moved up to that. Then I carried the .380 and a Kel-tec 9mm interchangably. Since 9/11, I carry 40's and 45's almost exclusively, sometimes choosing the 9mm, and [very] rarely carrying only a Kel-tec 380. My favorite's gotta be the 40 caliber GLOCK 23 with 14 rounds of Cor-bon 155 grain ammo.

Matheath,

Tough question for a man who has carried a concealed weapon of one sort or another for 30+ years, but generally speaking I guess the caliber I carry today is smaller than in the past. I currently carry 9mm most often (Kimber Tactical Pro II in 9mm and/or Taurus 905 9mm revolver), but in the past I have carried virtually every caliber from .22 through and including .44 mag and .45 acp. with a heavier emphasis on the larger calibers. The calibers I have carried have largely been dependent upon the circumstances of life. For example, when I started carrying as a young man, I started out (not surprisingly) with a .38 special/.357 revolver. After I became a lawyer and while handling a heavy divorce practice, I tended to carry .44 mag/.44 special/.45; when I moved to a corporate litigation/police defense practice, the caliber of carry became smaller (fewer death threats!). As I have aged, my caliber has diminished...it is easier to carry heavy when you are younger! And bullet construction has improved over the last 30 years making smaller calibers more effective than they were.

So, I guess I have gone up and down over the years, but have finally settled, at least for the time-being, on the 9mm, and I feel quite satisfied with the choice.

MY choice = .45 acp

My choice was given to me by UNCLE SAM. It was the Colt 1911 type. It followed me. GLOCK 21, nothing fancy, is my currect choice to carry.

We at this time are a work in progress. I am coming around.

I carried a .45ACP for about 30 years. Still do occasionally, but mostly now I carry a 357SIG.

I went from a .380 Colt Government when I turned of age to obtain a ccw, to a .38 S&W to a .357 Ruger to various brands of .45acp. I now waiver between a .45 and a .357 depending on weather and attire.

Good question.
