Just a general question as to how long it took to actually recieve a carry license or permit from the time you submitted your application.

Let's stick with in-state permits for non-LEO. My reasoning being this; out of state may take longer and I understand some, if not all, agencies put a rush on permits for LEOs.

So, as an average citizen, how long did it take your issuing authority to get your permit to you?

It took about 20 minutes to get mine. About the same for the wife.

Most of that time was spent chatting, and waiting for the background check information to print out.

I love South Dakota! :D

Eventhough you asked for resident permits I thought I'd chime in.

My Florida took exactly 60 days from mailing to reciept. My Utah took 87 days from mailing to reciept.

Los Angeles County is such a lousy place for CCW's that I don't think I'll ever get one shy of becomming LEO or contributing $10,000+ to the re-election campaign of Hier Sheriff Bacca & Chief Bratton. Both more politically inclined to act than within the state's laws. I just hope that in 2010 we can elect a Sheriff with a policy like Sheriff Corona of Orange County. Almost Shall Issue

So my Resident permit in your poll would be NEVER no option presented.

Yeah, I forgot about that one. I suppose the pole kind of ignores WI and IL folks too, sorry 'bout that.

If you have non-resident permits, feel free to explain in your post. I just wanted to get a baseline of how long resident permits can take.

I've heard of states with a 30 day limit issuing within a few days and I've heard of states with a 90 day limit where people needed to call and say "Time's up, where's my permit?" Frankly, I don't understand why it would take more than a few minutes like a couple posters stated...

In the "may issue" state of CT, we are supposed to have a response on our permit application within 8 weeks. I got mine in 6.

Edit: didn't see the poll mentioned license OR PERMIT.

Applied for mine in December.

About three weeks ago they contacted me and said I needed to come back down to the courthouse to be re-fingerprinted.
I took off work early and went; it seems that my paper card had become bent at some point in the process, and was therefore rejected by the GBI  .

I asked them if sending them the new card would be the last hurdle in my approval: "Nope, this starts the process all over again" :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: .

On the plus side, the main (and common) complaint regarding the ridiculous delay in CCW issuance in Georgia seems to be the GBI.
The officers doing the printing, and the folks in the license office in particular were apologetic and could not have been nicer.

Their attitude, as expressed by the lovely lady in the office, is: "Honey, only the good people get these".

Besides, how can you not love an office where the sign over the door reads, "Marriage/Gun Licences".

I don't know about these days but for me...

It was almost thirty years ago so I don't remember the waiting time exactly (so I voted 5-7 weeks) but it took four or five weeks which wasn't too bad. It wasn't uncommon for others to wait eight weeks or much more though.

The photos, finger prints, and training class required aside...
What used to have the single BIGGEST effect on the turn around time was the fact that, #1 the five people who were your references had to first receive their reference question form in the mail, #2 they had to get right on it and fill the form out, #3 they had to mail the form back, #4 when all five forms were returned to the County Pistol Clerk the procedure could move to the next step. All that had to happen was for one reference to sit on the form for a while or loose / forget about it and the process was halted. (All permits had to be approved by the County Supreme Court Judge after passing review by the FBI, NY State Police, and County Sheriff.)

I think Ct is shall issue. They need a valid reason such as domestic orders against you, or felony crimes or certain misdemeanor crimes regarding domestic violence that all other states use to disqualify you from.

Funny you should ask that question today. I went to the courthouse to renew my permit 1 1/2 weeks ago and just got the notice today from the Clerk of the Court that it is ready to be picked up. (Virginia)

Even though it was a renewal, the process is about the same as for an original. IIRC, the original took about 3 to 4 weeks many years ago.

Applied just before noon on a Wednesday. Approved by 5pm that day. Received in the mail two days later on Friday.
Gotta' love WA for that one.

In Texas, it took me a a little under a month from the day they notified me they recieved my application. Seeing how everyone said expect a 60-day wait, I was most impressed.

PA

went to the Media court hose on my 21st b-day/ 45 days later had paper in the mail, picked up my card 46th day.

CCW licence?, dont need one:p
In Alaska your not required to get one to carry, but you can, namely for use is states that recognize them. I believe an Alaska CCW is valid in parts of the Pacific Northwest.

As I complained about in another thread, around 5 months.

Submitted my application sometime around November...electronic fingerprinting and all...and just pulled it out of the mailbox this morning. Had to email and ask what was going on...they issued the license the next morning.

Texas is odd sometimes...

TX

took 2 months to get mine. Takes em forever and a day to start the process of gettin it done. My dad said it took him about 30 days in AR.
