how many carry a 1911 with confidence?

I think a 1911 it the sexiest pistol out there. I love shooting them. I would never carry one unless I had to like a job requirement or something like that. I have many reason, here are a few in no particular order. Why carry 7+1 when I can carry 10, 13 or 15 +1. Every 1911 I have owned or shot has been picky in one way or another. Keep in mind I have never owned a $2500 1911.

These are my personal views.

Confidence, not only in it's reliability but also in my Wilson Combat Professional's ability to shoot where it points......every time. Like a Timex watch....takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

I being carrying a Para-Ordnance P14 for 10 years. Before that I carried a Springfield 1911 which I just gave to my son to carry as an off-duty weapon.

Like some others on here, I cut my teeth on the 1911 in the military!

With confidence? Well lets say that its served me well in some tight spots!!

I spied a coupla fun pokes at Democrats in this thread, so I thought it my duty to contribute my more nuanced two cents from the left side of the aisle!

:neener:

Besides, it depends on what your definition of "confidence" is...

I find that as I waffle along through life, in addition to their very serious purpose, the appeal of owning more than one firearm is in their variety and mechanics. One night it's a Kimber IWB on the hip, the next day an M & P Compact as I'm off to work, how 'bout a Smith Airweight for weekend lunch, drop a Beretta .32 in the pocket to walk the dogs, the Bersa's nice for those trips to the grocery store, that holstered Kahr PM9 rests snugly in an inside suit pocket, low-cost Sigma .40s are great for concealing around the house ...and then there's them long guns....

We just can't stay committed to anything, I guess....

I have 3 1911s...they all happen to be Kimbers and they are all 100% reliable. When I carry it is a 1911. I also own a couple of Walthers and a S+W 9mm. Throw me in the group that loves 1911s and has no trouble with them.

I used to, daily, for close to 30 years, but not any more. The only ones I did trust to carry were Colts, Commanders mostly.

I got tired in the recent past, of getting guns that didnt work, or still required some sort of fiddling to get them where I was comfortable with them. The last seven or so, Kimbers and Springfields were all a problematical, most were frustrating as a range gun and theres no way I'd have ever put one in a holster.

Colts still come closest to perfect, and all the others wish they had a Pony on the slide. Even so, at least for me, I usually still have to do "something" to even a Colt to get what I need. For the money a Colt costs, and then more to "fix" it, why bother?

For the past few years, I've been putting SIG in my holster (P229 mostly) and have never regretted it. For about what a used Colt costs, I get just what I need, that does what I want. They'll do until something better comes along.

Until I got my first Kimber, I never owned a 1911 I trusted or liked enough to carry. Two Colts (long gone, could not trust either one), three Paras (one unreliable, one too heavy and one too large and heavy), one Armscor (totally unreliable), one Springfield (absolutely unreliable, and I now have the factory's replacement for that POS, but this is a 9MM EMP so it may not count).

All four of my Kimbers have been alloy framed, sub-5-inch (one four inch and three three inch) and yes, I have carried each with utter confidence and will continue to do so.

here is the Campbell’s soup story of my 1911 I bought a Norinco gov’ model used a few years back for $180. I have fired thousand of factory loaded rounds through it. I have had about 3 squibs while I was learning to reload but even with the reloads those were the only problems, The chain came undone on my powder measure and it fired on just a primer. but with factory ammo I fired about anything I could get my hands on at it was accurate reliable and just a lot of fun. One day I had over two buddies with there .45's one with a llama 1911 and one with a Ruger 345 we had about 500 rounds between us and one wolf steel jacketed round floating at the bottom of the ammo box. My first mag I loaded I put the wolf round in first, it was the only jam we had all day. As long as I use brass I have not had a single problem with the 1911. It is a bit heavy but I have started carrying it more then my PA-63 now that it is winter.
