Interesting that she compared our crime statistics with the U.K. In one instance she is correct, but it is very misleading. She stated that there are more gun related deaths in this country. Yes, that is true, however when you look at overal violence... According to the home office of the UK there were 2,420,000 acts of violent crime in 2005 and their population was 60,209,500. That gives them a per capita violence rate of 1 in 24.88.
Now, the US during that same period had 1,390,695 acts of violence and a population of 296,410,404. That gave us a per capita violence rate of 1 in 213.14!!!
That means that while the UK may experience less gun related violence, the overall violence of the UK is almost 9 times higher than the US!!! Next time someone starts talking about the great gun laws that the UK has, throw those numbers at them.
