how reliable are cz 9mm handguns?

While I still think (as do others) that the Cz75 type A 9mm is the sexiest pistol ever developed.

The newer models do have some advantages over the Pre Bs.

I'm hoping that my new CZ-USA customized 75B Stainless will be in by Friday.
I do believe that it will be my 23rd CZ pistol.

You really can't go wrong with any CZ.

CZ handguns are habit-forming. Not like wire coathangers that breed in the dark closet, but they know when being handled who the CZ shooters are, and whisper to them "Take me home, let me be with my brethren".

They are CZechnologically superior in design and execution.

I have not shot steel or aluminum cased ammo. However my CZ-75's have shot every brass cased factory ammo or reload without a single feeding failure or malfunction. A very reliable firearm at a very reasonable price.

slight downer

I took my CZ85 out for the first time today and I loved shooting it, but I had three FTE in the first 116 rounds fired. I was shooting WWB 115 FMJ and JHP and the last 16 were 147 JHP. All the FTE were with 115 grainers. Now two of the FTE were when I was shooting one handed, but one was with 2 hands. I also shot my Glock 17 and had no problems at all (none ever to date). I did check the target date that came with the gun and it looks like it has been sitting on the shelf awhile because it was dated May '05. Could this be a weak extractor spring I've read about?
On the positive side, the CZ was more accurate than the Glock and I had never shot the CZ before today and have shot Glocks quite a bit in the last 5 years.
I've cleaned the CZ up and will take it out again soon and see if I have the same problems. Very nice shooting and handling gun though.
Oh and I am glad I got the 85 as I have found I can hit the left hand side slide release with my index finger of my right hand, kind of handy.

I own 2 1/2 CZ's. A 1996 CZ-75B, a 2000 CZ-75D PCR and he .22 Kadet Kit conversion. the B and PCR have been 100% reliable and very accurate. The Kadet Kit works on both and is also very accurate. The only time the Kadet Kit hiccups is with cheap bulk ammo and its a rare hiccup at that.

The 75D PCR is my favored carry piece over my Sig P228 and HK P7M8.

TExAg, Did you field strip and clean off all the packing gunk before firing? The stuff they pack these in sometimes I believe is part superglue - hard to get it all off and it's really sticky. If that was done, then it's an extractor spring - easy fix.

I did field strip it, but it was actually very clean and lightly oiled so I didn't really clean it. The mags had a stickiness on them so I cleaned them up, but that was it. I will try a couple more boxes through it before I replace the extractor spring since I did clean and oil thoroughly after I shot it.

SP-01 Tactical decocker. Christmas present from my (lovely)wife last year and have about 400 rounds through it. Mostly reloads. Puts a 125 HAP bullet into a small hole and has cycled perfectly down to 850 fps with that bullet. It just spits the casings out next to my hand. My factory target with the S&B ammo was horrible! I was thinking I got a bad one. Trigger is a bit rough but has been getting better. CZ ships them with snap-caps and replacable inserts where the firing pin hits.

I keep the magazines loaded to 16 to improve spring life. Wolff Springs in the mags.

I have a Wolff recoil spring on backorder since the rumor is the springs with the gun are of poor quality.

It currently resides in my nightstand with a TLR-1 mounted and 124gr. Gold Dot's while the Sig gets new springs. It may find a permanent home since I'd rather use a 4.72" 9mm than a 3.6" 40 S&W indoors.

I currently own 8 CZ's and/or clones and my main carry gun is a PCR. I wouldn't own anything else due to their reliability, accuracy, and ergonomics.

I own a CZ clone, the EAA Witness. My ONLY complaint, there's not enough metal showing on the slide to get a good grip on it.

With the .45ACP upper on it, it was not a problem, but since I switched it to 10mm, I can't use the Wolff 22# recoil spring, because if I do, I can't pull the slide back far enough to load a round. :(

So, I've got the 20# spring in there, and hoping that will be enough to handle the hot 10mm loads I'm going to put through it. ;)

Other wise, I LOVE the way the CZ (and clones) look and feel.

But there warrantee means nothing

I have about 15 different CZ firearms. If you get a good one then good for you. If you get a bad one, in my experiance, they (CZ-USA) will not help you. You are on your own.

However, I have a CZ RAMI and a CZ75SA, both function very well. They are both in 9mm though.

I have a CZ 75B and Witness compacts in 9mm and 38SA and they have all been very reliable. The CZ is a better carry sidearm for me, the Witnesses are "pointier." All but the 38SA were bought used. You do have to clean them! I don't think the previous owners of mine knew that.
