At 68, I have been shhoting a lot of different semi's, As a handloader I look for every piece of my own brass, and loose quit a bit. I just came back from a local indoor pistol range & had shot about 200 rounds with 4 of my mountain guns. What a treat, I did not have to pick up brass or het hot brass flying in my face, I think its back to revolvers for me

I don't care either way. If you buy quality pistols you won't have problems with them and they'll last 100 years revolver or no. Glock torture tests have shown that they can last through sooooooo many rounds it isn't even funny so I wouldn't hesitate to trust one, same with Springfield's XD and XDM series of pistols. I own both revolvers and semi autos...either will get the job done.

I'm 56 and like them all. But if I'm standing behind it to solve a serious problem I want as many shots as it will take to end the problem.
I've got some revolvers and I've got all three size 9mm Glocks.
Now when we talk rifles... well that's another thread.

I like both, always have, 20 yeras in NY had a model 60 and a ppks on my license. If there were a third kind , I would want one of them also. If you like guns, I find it difficult to eliminate half of them right off the bat. I's like stick and automatic, I love stick, but hate to get stuck in NY traffic for 2 hours with one. Had enough of that when I lived there. Your calfs gets so spasamed you have to get out or switch legs. It's the same with anything, keep an open mind and something may just slide in and open a new world for you.

At 35, my EDC is currently a SW1911 +2 Kimber Tac Pro magazines. Next month that will likely change to DA/SA 17rnd FNP-9 due to the cooler weather and heavier clothing. My holster guy is making me another fine holster for the FNP. I prefer OWB, under the shirt @ 4 O'clock for whatever I carry so as to keep it simple. These are guns meant to be CCW's. I am having him start on revolver holsters next. I love my revolvers. There is not a finer home defense firearm than a good DA revolver. Wheel guns stay loaded and do not suffer magazine failures from worn out springs like my semi-autos and shotguns do. I keep my SP101 in a quick access safe, my Anaconda loaded in the main safe. A SW627 Airweight rides along in a pocket holster anytime I don't have a belt and holster handy. This one is great for shorts and workout gear since it is mostly sweatproof as well.

When I posed this thread 2.5 years ago I had no idea

that it would still be going on and have close to 800 post now.
I have read most all of the them and find in interesting that if you like revolvers it really dont matter if your 10 or 100 if you love revolvers like I do.
Thanks for all the post!

I'm a little south of 60 and shoot both, but just LOVE my revolvers. Took out my departed dad's 1911A1 the other day to the range and half way into my second box, did the "hot-brass-Charleston" caused by a piece getting stuck between my neck and my shirt collar.....when I got home, I quickly showed the wife the mark, to which she said, "ok, so you got a hot-brass-hickey, what do you want me to do about it? And, no, it does not look suspicious!"

I just LOVE that gal! She definitely understands!!

Old shooters just hang in!

At the benchmark of 75 this thread prompted me to look back.

I truly can't remember all the guns I have had, given away, sold, swapped etc. Some do however stick in my mind; among them are a 450/400 Jeffreys nitro-express Farqueson action rifle which I sold to a visiting hunter from California, a 1906 Naval Luger which I realised many years later would now be worth plenty and a couple of very nice Winchester lever guns. The only gun I actively disliked was a Winchester self-loading "prison carbine" in .35 which had an inertia system using a large metal weight in a hollow forestock.

What do I use now, as I totter along towards senility?: firstly a 1911 genuine Colt .45 for IDPA and daily carry, a .308 BRNO rifle which I no longer use for hunting but still paper punches a nice group, a 12 bore BRNO side by side which has also left its hunting role but knocks down clays and Cowboy Action plates quite happily. I also have assorted 9mm autos, cap and ball revolvers, and a flint-lock rifle.

As time goes on and if circumstances permit, I plan to reduce my weapon holdings to the Colt 1911, the BRNO rifle and shotgun, which I have had for about 50 years, and possibly a Ruger series 1 revolver in .357 which shoots beautifully. After that its someone else's problem.

im 41 years old and do my shooting on papertargets...
automatics never caught my attention , seen one seen them all in my opinion.
i do have a growing interest in vintage smith & wesson revolvers .
greetings from holland , mi amigos !

I told him one good .357 in the right place beats 10 spray and pray 9mm
I have absolutely nothing against revolvers in certain situations, but this may be the most illogical argument I've ever heard in my life, on any topic. One good 9mm in the right place also beats 10 spray and pray 9mm.

Hell, one good thrown rock in the right place beats 30 sprayed and prayed 5.56 rounds.

Just because a certain handgun has a 17 round capacity doesn't mean the shooter can't (or doesn't) aim.

It's as if you're suggesting that a 6-shot-revolver is more capable of making one well placed shot because it only holds six shots. Is it possible you really don't see how ridiculous that is?

25 and passionate about revolvers the two auto's I did own were sold for revolver money :)

Just over 50. I kind of chuckle at the scores of folks who stand 5-10 yards from the target at the pistol range, go "pop, pop, pop, pop" with their magazine fed guns, proud of their 10" groups. I show up with the big magnum, make everyone stand back behind me at 25 yards, then put 6 in the head and frighten women and children with booms and daylight muzzle fireballs. Then, I walk next door to the 50 and 100 yard range and get serious. It's all good though. I have a Sig just for grins.

I think the manufacturing process of revolvers vs. autos might also be a factor. Revolvers are nicer to look at, and you can really appreciate the craftsmenship, the high polish and the deep blue of some of the older ones (S&W and Colt, etc.) They have curves on them and autos are all straight and square. I like autos too (can't shoot them as well as revolvers) but I end up looking at revolvers more.

No...it has nothing to do with 15 rounds vs 5 or 6 ....its a Speer 135gr .357 has a much better chance of a one shot stop than a 115gr 9mm Winchester
I would like to keep shots to a min because of danger of hitting somebody else.

60ish and Love Them All.

Got a bunch of both and can't find a single one I don't love.

Love to own, love to shoot.

Don't get me wrong, I adore my revolvers but the 1911 rules for me.

Revolvers are more accurate, then most bottom feeders, for less money. They are less likely to malfunction, and, are available in calibers that turn barriers into concealment, not cover.

At 53, I must admit I shoot &buy both. But if it came down to 1gun, it would have to be a S&W or RUGER ROV. in .357 mag., .44 mag. or 454 culs. .I also keep a .44spl. handy for SD. yes I like revolvers!

57 here and have 7 1911's and no revolvers in hand yet. I finally ordered my first revolver and it should arrive this week. I bought a S&W 629 .44 with a 4" barrell.

I'm an "older guy" and I don't prefer either a revolver or a hi-cap auto (although I own some of each). Give me a 1911 any day.

Interesting thread. I have a couple auto's .45 acp and a .380 I like them both for their own reasons.

But I love my revolvers. If Obama got his way and I could only keep one. It would be my Black Hawk in .357. Best gun I have ever owned by far. I can reload it light or heavy, Fast or slow. Next I am going to play with black powder loads for it. Knew it was my love at first touch of the trigger.

Glad I get more than one though.

Oh I like the .32's tooo. Cant have to many of them.

51 here

I own a Kimber .45, an XD40sc, an LCP and a P38 bring back. For years the only wheelgun in my possession was a 4 5/8 .357 Blackhawk but lately I picked up a beater .38 spcl, this got my wife and daughter into shooting both DA and SA.

Lately when we go out back and plink it seems only the .38 goes with us and we have a ball. I am looking for the right deal on a GP100. I spend most of my THR time on the revolver page pouring over the daily threads to feed my need for revolver info.

I do believe I've contracted revolveritis.

Over the last 50 years I've owned more than 150 guns of all types, most have gone on to others. I own 5 semi's ( four Glocks and a 1911) and they are all great guns. I have never had a problem with any of them, but they are not my first choice.

I also currently own 15 revolvers ranging from .22's to .45 Colt. About half are single action Rugers and the others are all DA S&W's. I would hate to give up any of them. Now that I am 67 I find that when I go to the range or hunting, my constant companion is a revolver. WHY? Because they are more versatile and have a wider range of cartridge options, wild to mild. The mechanics are easier to teach and there is just something fun about a .357 mag in a small revolver, a .44 mag in a large one, a .22 pocket revolver or a .45 Colt in a gun John Wayne would be proud of. Yes Sir, revolvers are fun and you can feel the history in them dating back to their ancestors of the mid 1800's.

1911's have a history that can be enjoyed, but a Glock has no history. Sort of like a hammer, it works, but we don't talk about it much. Revolvers are friends. Most semi's are just tools. Besides, having 15+ rounds in a semi doesn't make you a good shot. I think a revolver makes you think and place your shots to make them count. But what do I know? I'm just old, and a good shot. ;)
