Old shooters just hang in!
At the benchmark of 75 this thread prompted me to look back.
I truly can't remember all the guns I have had, given away, sold, swapped etc. Some do however stick in my mind; among them are a 450/400 Jeffreys nitro-express Farqueson action rifle which I sold to a visiting hunter from California, a 1906 Naval Luger which I realised many years later would now be worth plenty and a couple of very nice Winchester lever guns. The only gun I actively disliked was a Winchester self-loading "prison carbine" in .35 which had an inertia system using a large metal weight in a hollow forestock.
What do I use now, as I totter along towards senility?: firstly a 1911 genuine Colt .45 for IDPA and daily carry, a .308 BRNO rifle which I no longer use for hunting but still paper punches a nice group, a 12 bore BRNO side by side which has also left its hunting role but knocks down clays and Cowboy Action plates quite happily. I also have assorted 9mm autos, cap and ball revolvers, and a flint-lock rifle.
As time goes on and if circumstances permit, I plan to reduce my weapon holdings to the Colt 1911, the BRNO rifle and shotgun, which I have had for about 50 years, and possibly a Ruger series 1 revolver in .357 which shoots beautifully. After that its someone else's problem.
