I Submit The Bhp Is The Ultimate All Around Handgun

I don't understand this "safety" deal on the BHP. I am sitting here holding mine in my hand and I can easily flick the safety off and on with my thumb. Matter of fact, I don't see how it can get much easier? Heck, it's ambi too.

The new ambi variations pretty much solve the problem.

I take it you've never handled the original P35 style, like JM Browning and what's his name who finished the design, originally specified.

Got a new belt slide Ken, want one for the R9S?

that's nice and everything, but the XD failed the megaforce pistol trials because of the Acetone test. Megaforce is expected to do long term deep submergence acetone infiltrations and plastic guns dissolve under the rigors of such conditions.

The BHP, being made of steel, stays intact.

If you had said the BHP was the ultimate single action pistol, I would have agreed. But in my book, the BHP and the 9x19 are far too limited to be the ultimate all-around handgun. A Ruger Security Six or GP-100 has a far wider range of loads and bullet weights available than the mere 9x19, and is tougher to boot.

You know, I've had two, and currently have one Belgian made one from the early 70s, and I have never experienced any kind of malfuntion with either one. The one I have has a thumb safety that's too small, but that can be fixed. It is not the best "hobbiest" gun, which is the 1911, but it's a great carry/self defense gun. The best one, though, is the 1911 type. I agree that the BHP is a more natural shooter, but it's a 9mm.

Ok, I have to admit the safety sucks on my BHP. 72 model with the safety on the left side.

It is NOT left hand user friendly unless it has the Ambi Safety.

Either way, It is and will be my only 9MM.:D

I can't argue with the BHP proponents, it's a fantastic pistol. (though current production models need to have the magazine disconnect removed to have a decent trigger)

Having said that, my 92FS Vertec will do everything a BHP will, and has an accessory rail if you want to "tactify" it. (it does require the hammer spring replaced with a "D" spring to give it a good trigger though)

The Megaforce test was developed at the last HS/LC shoot when Skunkabilly smoked Andrew with a 3" XD9Subcompact during a man on man shoot. Since this incident, Mr Wyatt has had it out for the better pistol :)

Only on the small sub-set of BHP that come with the ambi safety.
You guys know that the MKIII BHP, which is all of them made since about 1991, have the ambi safety, right?

The Megaforce trials were conducted in strasbourg, austria, to select an official sidearm for the elite Megaforce and XXXXX units. Tests included the acetone test, running the pistols over with various kinds of vehicles, the infamous "twinkie test" and a range of drop tests from 30 feet up to 1,200 feet (scored based on accuracy), and the LCF test.

The winner was the new HK45, 1911 style pistol. It scored rather low in the pack on the drop, vehicle and twinkie tests, but topped out the LCF test.

Well, I guess I'm one of the people for whom the BHP just doesn't fit well. I've got pretty big paws and the combination of the (replacable) small safety and the (nothing to do for it) SHORT handle makes it pretty much unusable for me.

For the longest I couldn't understand the craze over 1911s and BHPs when the handles end barely over 2/3rds of the way down my hand and the 1911 was too narrow to get a good grip on. Granted, the .45acp is a joy to shoot and Hogue grips helped the thickness somewhat but still....

That said, I'm gonna have to agree with the fellas who are touting the CZ-75. Now, that is one comfortable and hand-filling pistol. And for a fella who's over 6' tall and wide around the middle, it's no problem at all to conceal. Now I've just gotta get the scratch together to try out the CZ-97B.

Other than the ergos though, I have absolutely no qualms about using the BHP. Enough so that I've suggested it on many occassions to persons interested in a controllable, concealable pistol.

Everybody knows that God is a Republican and HE carries a Glock!!!

Sacrilege! Blaspehmy!

You must go to the temple of JMB and put 5 mags through a BHP. Then you will know what a good handgun is.

Glock?

Please! The thing feels like a brick in the hand. It LOOKs like a brick in the hand.

Safe action? Bah! How about "Never-Safe action." If you snag that trigger, it WILL go off. Not gonna happen with a cocked & locked BHP. Mebbe that's why you read so many stories about Glock NDs. Like the LEO who thought he'd twirl his Glock on his finger, like a Peacemaker...

OK, I retract that one. That guy was stupid enough he prolly woulda found a way to have an ND with a BHP. But he woulda had to work harder!

Wildalaska is correct on this one.

Having said that, my 92FS Vertec will do everything a BHP will, and has an accessory rail if you want to "tactify" it.

Hmmm, I'm betting that if I stick a 92FS Vertec in my waistband with just a t-shirt for a cover garment, it will get noticed a lot quicker than the BHP, which hasn't been noticed yet.

I'd also be surprised if your Vertec will do a 5lb pull on the first shot after taking it off safe. Not only that; but the Browning has the safety where God intended it should be (the frame for you heathens out there ;) ).

A couple of years ago I went to the gun store with $650 to purchase a BHP. I'd owned several in the past but had traded them off. Looking in the gun case I noticed a FEG two guns down...their was no comparison with the BHP. The FEG had much better blueing than the BHP and cost about 1/3 the price. I got the FEG and have not looked back since. GREAT Classic design and with those milsurp 17 rounders, beats my Beretta 92F hands down.

Recent rumors are that the MegaForce test was flawed in an effort to pout more hatorade on the XD9 pistols......we are waiting for more information.

Ya know, I'm reading this thread and for some reason I am reminded about that story where the Alaskan takes a bet involving a fifth of whiskey, a grizzly bear, and a woman. After completing the first third of the bet he mixes up what he is suppposed to do in the next two parts:evil:

The BHP is nicely scaled to the 9mm cartridge, the same way a 1911 is well scaled to the .45 ACP, and it is a great choice when a 1911 guy wants to save money on cheaper ammo.:D
