....I just took her shooting. She was raised afraid of guns. Being from San Francisco, she thought that my guns would just jump up and bite her like a snake, or somehow be used to go rob someone. According to her the first few shots she took were really "liberating" and "fun". Now just about every weekend she wants to go shoot. She lives in LA now and after hearing about a local raping tonight she told me tonight "I need a gun." She was like "seriously when I have disposable income I might get one". Those words were music to my ears. I think it would help alot of these antis to visit a gun range, take a safety class, etc. Whatever it takes to get them to shoot a few rounds and realize guns aren't going to fire without pulling the trigger(for the most part) or go rob a liquor store themselves. From my experiences most of these fears are from seeing guns on tv and automatically drinking the hater koolaide without any first hand, real world experience.

Pic of her w/gun or it didn't happen (kidding, but I would like to see a pic) :)

Seriously though, if you do not get on one knee with a ring TODAY, and reserve a chapel to be married within the next 6 months, you're a bad man :D

My immediate family is very much for gun control (makes for a fun time at family meals) BUT I've been able to get them to relax a bit on their stance by bringing them to the range and having them shoot the 1911 or the .44 magnum (my dad, not my mom or sister) or the old WASR I had.

Nothing like 30 rounds of 7.62x39 dumped in a hurried fashion to give someone a thrill.

Education works! People fear what they don't understand.

Absolutely.

Many find the experience to be UNDERwhelming when they first encounter live fire.

"But the bullets do so much more in the movies!?"

"Yea.......Movies.....NOT real life."

Man feared fire at first, until he realized he didn't have to burn himself in order to use it...

The general public that is not raised around guns is steered toward gun fear by the media, everyday.

They jump on violence involving guns and often times misinform the public through their own ignorance or prejudice. They use words like "automatic handgun, assault, high capacity, military style weapon" etc..liberally, you get the point. They make it seem like the gun is at fault for whatever happened. Where is the media when a gun is used to deter crime 2 million times a year?!

Educating people is the key to understanding. We should have 'take a noob to the range day' once a month!

I'm happy things are working out for you!

a local raping

ROTFLMAO

That's a great term you've inadvertently coined. "Raping" probably describes it well.

If I lived in CA, I wouldn't count on having any disposable income any time soon.

congrats your friend is very lucky. this hippy liberal gun lover was convinced by a crazy next door neighbor wielding a baseball bat. and fully converted by the muzzle flash and BANG of a 357 in the dark from my own hand in Marin 11 days later

My wife ain't too fond of my hippy liberal girlfriend......guns or no guns.:banghead:

If I can give any good advice it would be for you both to get out of Cali and the baaaad that permeates the pro gun persons life.:scrutiny: +100 on the not having ANYTHING while a resident of Cali.:what: Being able to defend what you have legally is desirable to being in a place not worth defending.:banghead:

These are some of the simple antis, raised to be an anti.
Many of the hardcore and most active antis, who promote legislation and raise money to fund anti-gun efforts already are protected by firearms.
They either have them for protection, or have armed bodyguards.
Dianne Feinstein for example was one of the few people carrying a concealed firearm in all of San Francisco. Yet she has done more in creating anti gun legislation at the state and national level (like the AWB) than most people.

The most powerful antis do want guns on their side, they just don't want the average people with access to them.
Really it is no different than royalty a thousand years ago. Who wanted to be armed, and have better arms and better bodyguards than any of their people.

This predates guns:
For example crossbows were banned many places because they allowed a simple peasant with limited or no training to defeat an armed knight who had been trained since he was a boy in all manner of fighting.
No peasant who had to toiled day in and day out could ever match a knight who was free to train, and had to train most of their lives.
While a bow took skill to master and was perceived as less of a threat, the crossbow created equality.
It was also one of the earlier "armor piercing" projectile bans. The king's men could crush peasants easily, and were armored against attacks. But a heavy crossbow could punch through their armor and just required cocking, pointing, and shooting.
Similar things have been repeated throughout history, by many governments and ruling parties, as well as various aristocrats. They do not want equality. They want to feel secure that they have more power than any of the rabble.

The most powerful antis behind legislation and funding often are not disarmed, and some are quite good with guns or hire people who are.
