Jeff, prepare to be ill. 
While stationed in Iraq, my son told me that, after making friends with some of the MP's in the area, he was allowed access to a confiscated weapons storage facility. This was literally warehouse sized, and guns were jumbled in heaps in a huge building.
He identified the firearms that he could recognize:
Thompson SMG's;
Browning machine guns of all configurations;
Lugers galore;
Garands, Springfields, Enfields, and other bolt action rifles.
The German firearms industry was well represented. He specifically mentioned seeing at least 10 StG44's, ranging from beaten up to what appeared to be almost new.
The destination for all of these firearms?
Under the treads of the nearest M1 Abrams MBT.

I've seen the pics
My uncle was over there, and he said they blew up a pile of hundreds of MP40's, and other assorted classic weapons.
If nothing else, give them to museums to preserve. But I guess that would be looked upon as the US looting war spoils :banghead:

Out of rifle category, Piranha III type light assault vehicle with Air Defence fitout - 25mm minigun (that's in a long-gun category) and 8 stingers in turret. Good enough SUV and all-terrain vehicle. And more than safe vehicle to drive in city-traffic.
And of course, crates of ammo, spare parts, lots of them, and a convenient place to shoot and plenty of time to do that
