If you could have one shotgun, one pistol and one rifle, what would it be?

shotgun - AA!2
Rifle - M-1
Pistol - 1911 45 acp.

This is a manly mans list. Wimps and liberals are not eligible for this offer.

Rifle = LRB Arms M14SA
Pistol = SAI XD40 Service or Ruger SP101
Shotgun = Bennelli M121

Yes, I own them.

I would go with my 10-22 in place of any shotgun, but this thread did specify as a shotgun needing to be one of the 3......:)

11B

"pistol", redifined "revolver" - .38 Special K-frame Mod 15;
"rifle", Rossi 16 inch big ring Model 92 .357/Magnum/.38 Special;
"shotgun", Stoeger classic 20 gauge coach gun double-barrel.
(according to YouTube video, Mr. Ayoob showed there is no difference in results between 12 and 20 gauge shotgun, at close range.)

S&W k or l frame in 357 mag.
Savage 110 in 30-06
Mosberg 835 in 12g.
Ammo for all would be very easy to find.
You can with one or all the above kill anything that walks this earth.

Collection:

Rifle: Original gas-trap Garand?
Pistol: Original WWII 1911 (I know, not even that hard to find haha).
Shotgun: Original trench gun I suppose.

Realistic present day use:

Rifle: My AR or AK (either way, I love them both equally)
Pistol: Glock 36 or KelTec PF9 (CCW > range fun)
Shotgun: That new KelTec looks pretty interesting, but having not handled one I'll go with the classic Mossberg 590.

My choices would be

S&W 686
Mossberg 500 with shot and rifled barrels
Savage Bolt action .308 with 3X9 scope

I chose these because they are in my safe right now. All three are dependable, reasonably priced, accurate, & versatile.

Several years ago, in recovering from the financial devastation wrought by divorce :cuss:, I had to begin rebuilding my small collection of guns from scratch. I purchased (in this order):

1. A Springfield XD-45 for concealable, close-quarters self-defense.

2. A DPMS LR-308 for long-range self-defense and hunting best-suited for a rifle.

3. A Remington 870 in 12 gauge for home-defense and hunting best-suited for a scattergun.

S&W Model 65 or 13, 4"
Winchester 94
Ithaca 37

Currently I have a 64 but would prefer the magnum option if it were my only handgun.

Shotgun
Mossberg 500 though I could be talked into the 590. I mostly like the location of the safety. Either would work fine for home defense or busting clays at the range.

Pistol
For me it would be 45 ACP as I really like the round. It would be a toss up between a Sig P220 (just feels great in my hand) and a Glock 21 (lighterweight and higher capacity). If it's only one, the practical CCW side would win out on the pistol and I'd go with the Glock 21.

Rifle
This one is a no brainer for me. I abosolutely love the Marlin 336Y (16.25" barrel & 12" LOP) lever action in 30-30. This is a later in life discovery. I would miss having one of those more than anything else. The other choice would be a bolt action in 308 (either Styer or Ruger scout models). Having said that I just like the lever action too much.

Between these three, I could hunt (hog, deer, black bear), plink, defend myself. I would be quite happy. In fact, if I could sell off other firearms for what I paid for them, I'd be tempted to harmonize to these. I would have a slight want for a 22 LR but could live without it. Given the others firearms, I'd likely go with a Ruger 10-22. What I like about it is that you can cosmetically change it quite easily so you can generate many looks if you get tired of one look for it.

Actually, wouldn't be too tough for me. I lived many many years with only a small number like this and was fine. In fact, I'm not sure I'm happier with more.

For me, it would be:

Mossberg 590A1 shotgun - rugged, I like the tang safety, and I could/have used it for sporting clays (not ideal obviously, but I infrequently shoot clays). The world wouldn't end it all I had was a Mossberg 500. You can purchase a Moss 500 with ghost ring sights from the factory. A friend of mine did this.

Marlin 336 lever action rifle in 30-30. I fell in love with my lever action and it always puts a smile on my face when I take it out to the range or go hunting with it. I've got it set up in the Scout type format made popular by Jeff Cooper. My father in law said it looks like a Red Ryder BB gun to which I said "thank you".

For the pistol, I'd go with a Sig P220 which is 45 ACP. I wanted a Sig for over 20 years before I finally saved up and bought one. It did not disappoint. Utterly reliable and feels very good in my hand.

I would miss a 22 LR but could live without it. I'd probably get a 22 conversion kit for the Sig. If I could add one more, I'd probably go with the Marlin Papoose. This is a change from my normal answer of a Ruger 10-22. I like the lightness and portability of the Marlin.
LOL. Looks like I answered this 6 months ago and again today (was working my way backwards after today's post; was funny becuase I liked the person reply as it sounded like my thoughts and then lo & behold it was). Interesting to note that I really didn't change my answers.

Remington 700 in 30-06 with a Zeiss scope
Does the Ithaca 37 have interchangeable barrels? If so, I'd go with one of them in 12 gauge.
Handgun. . . tweaked and smoothed out Witness 10mm

Pistol - m&p .40 or glock 21
Rifle - ruger 10\22 (cheap to shoot)
Shotgun - keltec KSG

*swyped from the evo so excuse any typos*

For all around protect myself/ hunt/ survive
Pistol - Springfield EMP (do not own...yet)
Shotgun - Remington 1100 LT-20 (my father gave me this for Christmas 11 or 12 years ago. It still works and looks great. Just put a recoil pad on it to extend the stock.)
Rifle - M1 Carbine with a red dot (do not own, but I've shot a friend's extensively. Easily my favorite center fire rifle to shoot. I'm accurate with it, and I could take whitetail inside 100 yards.)

my 3 hunting-centric choices would be
Pistol- Rossi 3inch 357. (I've practiced with it enough to know that the bullet is headed right where I want it to. It's also put down a deer in misery and I could conceal it. Who doesn't like a good .357 wheel gun?)
Shotgun - Browning A5 in 12 Ga (my dad's, but I've put a couple hundred dove/quail down with it)
Rifle - Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker in 30-06 with a Leupold Vari-X III (my personal choice for whitetail the last 8 years)

The truth of the matter is that I could never just have 3 guns. It would be an impossibility for me. This list is missing the 10/22 and MKII that I have had so much fun and used to teach many of my fraternity brothers and lady friends to shoot with.

According to a military site that had a lot of recomendations from troops in the field as to what they preferred, the following were picked
A mossberg or Remington pump- the 500 and the 870 express.
A 9mm pistol, or a 45., And a 30-06 rifle with extended mag and scope, or an ak-47, the AR got bad reviews, the cleaning issue and sand getting into every nook and craney, the 30-06 surprised me untill I thought about it they mentioned the 740 model, and the 9mm mainly because of the availability of ammo. The 45 was preferred for power more in the H&K and 1911's. And the 870 for clearing a houses fast.
They did not like the fact that the AR had penetration problems on even thin concrete walls and sometimes failed to stop an insurgent even with a torso shot. I started readink up on my 30-06's, the remingtons, and Buds has the synthetic model for around $600.00 or in 308. I kind of like the idea of having one to augment a 30 round mag type fire supressing, secondary rifle. This way you can have one person keep their heads down while the other sets up a nice shot out to 5-600 yards, which according to everything I have read is not a problem for either round the 30-06 or the 308. That's about as far as I could see me taking a shot under stress, god forbid the SHTF. Most everyone seems to be on the same wavelength with this. Shotguns- rem or moss, pistols- 45 or 9, rifles 308 or something in th 30-30, 30-06, or 22.

Hangun: Older Smith and Wesson, Ruger, or Colt revolver in .357.
Rifle: Remington, Winchester, or Savage in 30.06 or .308.
Shotgun: Older Remington 870.
Accessory: Leupold scope for the rifle.

Ar15, Sig p226 9mm, remington 870
Oh, I have the first two. And I don't want the
Remington 870. Well, I'm all set.

My choices are dictated somewhat by where I live, NE Ohio, my interests and my budget.

The only big game we have is whitetail deer and no rifles are allowed, hand gun w/ 5" or longer barrel, .357 or larger straightwall case, muzzleloader or shotgun slug. For a one time a year event, hunting doesn't really affect my choices too much, especially as I haven't hunted small game in over 20 years.

What does interest me and dictate my choice in arms is self defense and target shooting, both formal and casual. Ammo cost figures highly into my choices as well, as especially nowadays the bucks just aren't there like in years past.

After trying out innumerable arms over the years what my chices are have evolved down to these few that cover the most bases for me:

1) Pistol: Glock 34 9mm, target version of the infamous G17. It's reliable in the extreme, accurate and effective while remaining affordable to shoot and is just a whole lot of fun. I load Winchester Ranger 127 +p+ for defensize use, any cheap 9mm for practice. It lives next to my bed with an attached light and goes to the range every trip. At 1911 size it's on the larger side for CCW, but can be done. It does what I need it to do and I trust it implicitly.

2) Shotgun: FN SLP 12ga. I use to have a Benelli M1 S90 26" "Practical Tactical" that was flawlessly reliable but was just to darn long for defensive use at the homestead. I sold it and had every intention of getting the short barrel version but stumbled across the similar FN first and was instantly smitten. 18.5" barrel with invector choke tubes, ghost ring sights and flawless performance. It is superb for defensive use or hunting with either slugs or buckshot, plus turkey and other small game and pests as needed with the proper shot shell selection. Wing shooting is it's big failing but I really don't do that anyway other than some infrequent informal fun clays shooting, where I manage to do OK with it. I think it's the most versital shotgun made for my interests and needs and really have little desire for any other shotgun.

3) Rifle: Rock River AR15 Natiomal Match flattop in 5.56. I got this to replace my 7.62 Garand when the cheap surplus ammo dried up. At the time I could buy 1000 rounds of first rate Black Hills match ammo for just about 1/2 of what match .308 was going for. The difference isn't quite as large these days, though it's very significant, but I have never regretted my decision. The AR is amazing in it's accuracy and versitility and I recently got a 3x9 Trijicon scope to improve this ones capabilities. I enjoy shooting this rifle immensely, though I seldom shoot CMP matches anymore. I feel extremely well armed for defensive use, target, varmints and vermin and especially fun recreational shooting that tends to be what I do most these days.

I own all three, all chosen with purpose and if any were to be lost or damaged they would be replaced with like guns.

Already have 2 or the three:
Mossberg 500AF - Smooth bore and scoped rifled slug barrel
Mossberg 100ATR chambered in .270 win.
Taurus 809(getting soon)
