If you could have only 4 Rifles for home defense?

You mean 4 rifles per room, right? :neener:

Seriously though; I'm with the 2 pairs of nearly identical AR's, one pair for close, one for longer distance. Not a bad idea, but I think I'll survive with just two AKM's.

ROFL, instantly laughed at the first reply. :neener:

My list:
1) AR15/M16 with full 16'' barrel (versatile rifle, higher velocity with 16'' makes the .223/5.56 go round and round in you

2) Knight's Armament PDW (best sub machine gun IMHO, better than P90, MP5, but not Kriss Vectors for CQB)

3) Barrett M107 (4 is stretching it as it is, got CQB, got rifle so here is a long range choice)

4) uhhh... AK 47 (in case a the above rifles fail, this one will never let you down)

Four makes it easy.
1. Pump action shotgun. I like mossbergs.
2. M1A.
3. Back up shotgun identical to first one.
4. Back up M1A identical to first one.

I would prefer SG inside home and M1A outside. If SG doesn't count as rifle I'd substitute in newer mini-14s (they shoot 3 moa stock from factory).

I reckon a couple of Mini-14s and a couple of Marlin 1894C .357 lever rifles could handle home defense just fine, and we have those, already. Where I live, I don't have a clear shot in any direction that would require anything with more range. Once I step away from the house/yard, I want something with more long-range accuracy potential, in 7.62 NATO/.308, but then, I am not defending the home at that point, but going on the offensive.

I will actually go for one of the 870 pump guns under most circumstances, at least as long as I work for a PD that has rules about what weaons I use, 24/7. Not that an 870 is a bad choice, anyway, but this topic is about rifles.

1 AK
3 Barrett 50 cal's
Sell two of the 50 cal's and buy more ammo.

Unless you want to get REALLY unrealistic, then a SAW, a Mini-Gun, a M2 Browning machine gun, and a last ditch Thompson Sub-Machine gun. and of course an 18 wheeler load of ammo for each.

I think that would pretty much cover home defense.

My AR-15 A3 16" and my 101rnd beta mag.
I know it's not a rifle but I have it under my bed every night .40 S&W PT 24-7 Corbon powerballs!

Other than a crashing noise, if it is just an alarm or even a muffled sound, how about a very bright flashlight or a hall light on?
Without a loud sound, how do you determine that it is not a family member?

If a stranger is clearly identified, the Mini 30 will work.

How many people would simply make an assumption and shoot into a dark hallway or room?
A guy just killed his fiance recently due to an assumption, and he's not the first to have killed a family member etc.

What does this have to do with picking your top 4 HD rifles???

There's a different subforum for discussing strategies and tactics, and it's called.....dun-dun-dun.....strategies and tactics

Semi-auto is preferred, but really, any quick action style in a not over-long package, with any caliber more powerful than .22 Magnum and not much more powerful than .30-06 will work fine. I would be especially happy with

AR-15 16" barrel
M1 Carbine
AK in 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45, or 5.45x39mm
Any lever carbine in .41, .44, or .45 Colt

One day, I'd love to have the new Kel-Tec RFB, when the 24" barrel version is available.

A lot of people misunderstand terminal bullet ballistics. Faster rounds actually expand more violently and penetrate less, if you choose your ammunition carefully.

I don't know if I'd call 4 "ONLY" since you really don't need any rifles, given that shotguns and handguns cover the bases pretty well for me.

But if you re-phrased to "if you had to designate four rifles for home defense vs. the invading zombies for your and your loved ones, and only 4", I'd run with:

1. DPMS LR-260L, .260 Rem (for me)
2. IMI Timberwolf pump, .357 mag (for the girlfriend)
3. Robinson XCR, 5.56x45 (backup / other family members/neighbors)
4. Rossi/LSI Puma 92 in .454 casull or .45 Colt (GF's backup / other family members/neighbors)

Honorable mentions to (roughly in order):

--M4gery style AR15, 5.56x45
--Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt (don't have yet)
--M1 Carbine, .30 Carbine
--MSAR MCS-08 in 10mm auto or 9x19mm (don't have, mythical vaporware that it is), and
--My (sold) Mech-Tech/Glock carbine in 10mm auto (dang; prolly shoulda kept that one)
--AR15 (Alexander Arms) in .50 Beowulf (don't have)
--Win 94, .30-30 Win
--Marlin 336, .30-30 Win
