If you could only have 5 different calibers what would they be?

Just curious and was thinking about my choices,

22lr-because they do quite a bit for what you get.

9mm-What it lacks in power it makes up for with capacity and modern bullets.

223-Cheap, fun, and good for hunting small game.

260 rem- In my opinion the best all around caliber for anything Id hunt and targets Id shoot.

12ga-Birds, defense, deer, again does quite a bit for what you get.

This isnt meant to be a whats best question and whether your choices are made based on the pending SHTF, hunting, or whatever, Im just curious to see what some like minded people think... as for the reason, lets just say you cant afford or dont want to spend the money for an armory.

Probably .22LR, 9mm, .223, .308, 12-ga. So all the same as you except I like me .308 over .260. I'd also be TEMPTED to go .45 over 9mm, but for factory ammo 9mm is so much cheaper.

Of course if I were a snarky guy I would say .22 CAL covers .22LR and .223, which gives me space to buy my .45.

OP - I guess we're pretty similar in what we like -

22LR as well - For the same reasons you said. This is such an underrated round in so many ways.

9mm - We all know it's about shot placement anyway...9mm will do fine & it's readily available.

5.56/223 - Works for all kinds of critters and you can pack a good bit of it. Also readily available most anywhere.

30-06 - I have an affinity...okay a fetish for this round. Will do anything you need in N/A (by far not the only option - just mine). It's just sexy.

12 ga - This is a no-brainer for me. Ammo is available everywhere with many options. You can take anything in the lower 48 with the right load.

In that case you could say .30 Cal and have 30-30, 303, 308, 30-06, 300 blk, and all of the 300 magnums :)

For me?
.22lr
.357
9mm or .45 ACP (Glock 17 or 1911)
.308
12ga.

Good thing we are still free Americans and can pick whatever more!

.22 plinking and putting small game on the table.
.357 loaded mild to hot for target/small game or self defense.
.40 supressive firepower in a handgun.
.308 everything from varmits to Moose.
12ga Not much a 12ga can't do via shot or slugs.

just 5 calibers. . .

9mm SD and some hunting applications
12g hunting mostly, good all around gun to have
7.62x39 varmin hunting and target, everyone can use an intermediate cartridge
.308 long range target and hunting applications
.22lr hunting and target

I wanted to squeeze .38/.357 in there but decided on .22lr.
