If You Go Out In The Woods Tonight....

Well, as soon as I heard the voice of George Noore, I switched off the podcast.
I don't know anything about Noore, but I'm listening to an interview with him now. What's his reputation? Is he known for being a screwball, interviewing screwballs or both? Pallides investigates missing persons cases in cities and in rural areas and parklands. The common aspects are different in metropolitan areas than from rural areas, but the cases are fascinating.

My .22 handgun is a Ruger III 22/45. I dislike the sights on it and the Bushnell red dot makes it nearly impossible to find a holster for. A .22 would probably be all I'd need for critters in these woods.
I may opt for this one.

Lately tho I've been carrying a Taurus PT111 G2 9mm in a shoulder rig

If George sets you of his predecessor would really get to you.
I listened to the whole interview and it is fascinating on its face but having spent a lot of time in the backwoods I also know and have heard of many lost hunters, hikers and tourists who have disappeared to be found years later.
I've always prided myself of being able to walk the wilderness day and night and be fearless of elements that may wish me Ill. I must say I can't come up with any weird inexplicable situations that I've come across.

he hosts an all things unusual show. Sometimes its way out there, sometimes its very scientific. I listened to a great show on blackholes that was very hard science.

Yeah, it's not like you don't have a dozen of them!

Well I sure wish I had of bought some of those U.S. Postal Service 3 inch Speed Sixes they had in Shotgun News 10 years ago. I kick myself for not getting some while the getting was good.

But yes, I know the Security Six system like the back of my hand.

Usually a .357, a Ruger SP101 or my Colt Magnum Carry. Sometimes a Vaquero in .44 Magnum.

I think a 4 inch 357 is one of the best choices for an all around woods gun.

My EDC in a Glock 27. It should be adequate for anything I might encounter in these woods or streets. We do have a healthy black bear population, but not too concerned about those. For dangerous animals, I'd prefer a short barreled shotgun with slugs.

I have to admit that as soon as I heard "Coast to Coast" I started having a bad feeling about it. On the other hand I did do an interview on their old network 20 years ago...... It was however on the Gun Control issue and not Flying Saucers or para normal whatevers.

When I was a tween and early teen I wandered the woods of the Florida Big Bend with a BHK and Machete until I added a co2 pistol. One spring I ran into a pack of "wild Dogs", bowser domestic, that had either been turned out, run, away, or been someone's un picked up deer driving dogs. Fortunately they could not climb trees, but I learned that knives tend to not be good against multiple assailents and that CO2 pistols are under powered when someones Irish setter is trying to have you for lunch. I soon began to carry my then new Ruger RST-4 and just not mention it to any adults or other kids. It was what I had. I also had absolutely no problem with bad feeling s when some of the older boys set up wild dog ambushes during calving time and used center fire rifles and shotguns to reduce the number of evil pooches after that.

Oh yea. I remember Art Bell well. I used to listen to both of them while working night shifts, or driving to bass tournaments.

As someone else said, they both had some interesting shows. However for every one they had like that, there were three or four that were so far out that I got to where I just couldn't listen anymore.

I think George has a show on Sirrus XM radio now, but I've never listened to it.

Kbob, yeah, I've had run ins with feral dogs as a kid in the Central Valley of California. They are nasty creatures with no fear of man.

Anytime I'm outdoors I'll have a .357 with snake shot and hardcast ammo, along with a small survival pack and a SARS personal locator beacon. I had never heard of the 411 books until this post. Scary stuff, and especially with the missing cases in Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon areas that I've hiked all over. The fact of an adult male going missing from a crowded paved trail is chilling.

Most of the time a 637 in southern Indiana. Other locales may range up to a 329PD. Hi cap 9s and 40s sometimes when I'm in the mood. 637 is front pocket, others in a pancake holster or Safepacker.

Since muscle memory is crucial in a self defense situation I try to carry the same thing as often as possible. I might switch ammo depending on where I am. The exception is usually when I carry a 357 Magnum revolver.

First remember this is also the show that talks about all sorts of conspiracy theories.

Although one should carry always regardless of where they are

Yeah, every time I examine my Ruger Speed-Six 3-inch I remember the clown who took his wife...his NEW wife...on a hike in bear country on their honeymoon. Without a gun or even bear spray! They split up when they noticed a black bear following them (always a great idea ) and he makes it back to get help.

Meanwhile, the bear was helping itself to an afternoon lunch, sans berries. They subsequently hunted it down and dispatched it. But how different would it have been had this guy been armed! And a Ruger Speed-Six would have been nearly ideal. Even bear spray would have been better than nothing.

I realize in many places it's illegal to carry a gun for protection, but many rangers in the backwoods areas don't make a fuss if you conceal it well and are discreet.

I'm my local neck or the National Forest, I've been places I thought no one has set foot on in 100 years. Then I find an improvised camp with pseudoephedrine and lithium battery debris scattered around.

Don't think the people who hide to do evil aren't just as dangerous as any grizzly or mountain lion.

Yes, there is no 911 in the forest. You are, as John Farnam says, "own your own". He is also famous for saying, "nobody cares" as in fix the problem yourself cause "nobody cares"! And Black Bear can most certainly be done in with a .357.

Split up? Are they sure he didn't figure she was a slow runner and ..... did he have any insurance policies on her?

Yes it is not difficult to have a gun on on you in the woods. Here in Texas any National forest like Crockett or Angelina or the Great Sam Houston Big Thicket (which is so big there are rumors of space aliens and dinosaurs back there) with a CHL/LTC you can pack anything, concealed or not. And a good sixgun, canteen, and walking staff makes it a very interesting time back there (I should know, I've been down those roads many a time.)

Just recently I unpacked my old S&W 629-3 'Mountain Gun' .44 magnum and I just loaded up some 240 gr LSWC hard cast with 9.2 grains of Unique. Not a barn burner but it breaks 1000 fps which in Texas pretty much is all one needs at the most.

Yes I still have that 629-1 photoed earlier in the thread but just out of boredom I got that lighter one out (it weighs maybe 3 ounces less than a standard 4 inch 629.)

Oh just today, deer hunting on my Brother-in-law's land (he has 3 150 acre tracks and I get to play on one by myself) I saw three deer, one a buck that was a six pointer but NOT LEGAL!!! 13 inch spread rule...a rule I hate. Saw also FIVE coyotes today! Since I don't eat coyotes I let them go. Here is a cell phone of one of them I took.

If I didn't have a rifle that Ruger Speed-Six 3-incher of yours Confederate would have come in handy!View attachment 226566

I took that photo walking. I don't have a deer stand there. I walk. In all this season I've seen 5 does, two bucks (had to let them both go... not legal) and a whole bunch of coyotes!

What slays me is the flat Earth crowd. I have watched about eight of their YouTube presentations and it appears they're dead serious. My wife is on the verge of having me committed! Meanwhile, the fake news networks are telling me that Vladamir Putin committed a horrible crime by making public, emails that Hillary Clinton deleted with BleachBit™ from her illegal downstairs server, available to the voting public. The emails were supposed to be available under the Freedom of Information Act, but she deleted them -- yet the Russians are the bad guys for preventing Mrs. Clinton from illegally hiding that which she hoped to keep in the dark!

Hmmm...if Putin and Hillary were drowning in the ocean and there was but a single life preserver on board, who would YOU through it to?

I'd just have one question. How does one say “Heads Up!" In Russian?
