What are you armed with right now! - Not under the bed, in the closet, in the safe, the nightstand drawer or in the car. What can you lay your hand on right now to defend yourself and your loved ones?

If you have some sort of weapon at all times do you think that is that paranoid?

If you don't do you think that is ok?

My answer:
My .38spl (at least) is always with me (everywhere).

I'm not looking for a personal evalution. Just interested in seeing the level of readiness that most members maintain.

My ever-present 1911 and my light-sleeping Lab aka "Land Shark" curled-up at my feet. Paranoid, no; prepared & capable of defending myself, yes!

right now

Got home from court 200 miles away, late - uh, made later by a detour thru the huge Cabela's on 35W in MN!

So I slipped my carry piece (S&W 637 Airweight) onto the bookshelf behind me, alongside my G26 in a Fobus paddle, that is my "outdoor" pistol of the moment. Both 3 feet from my right hand. Put my feet up by the fireplace.

Several feet from my left hand are my fireplace display of a Scottish baskethilt broadsword, Targe, pattern welded dirk and sgian dbhu, an old Mauser bayonet, a damascus hunting knife.

And the early alert system provided by my 2 young Labradors.

Oh - and a grumpy 20 pound Maine Coon tom. :what:

everywhere except for the shower because I do not have a water proof gun... now if I just could find out where to get one of those nifty 5 shot H&K underwater guns... then yeah I would be armed everywhere in my home.

Are you really paranoid because you know that evil strikes at any time and you want to at least go down with a good fight. You may not live, but nobody ever said the bad guy shouldn't lose too.

At home, I keep my XD45 within reach, and the .30-30 and a shotgun within a few strides. I don't worry about home nearly as much as I do elsewhere, but Arkansas requires that you jump through hoops and give up your privacy, while begging on your knees, minus a handful of cash, before they'll allow you to defend yourself... within certain limits, of course.

I don't see the streets in Vermont or Alaska running in blood. Odd, that.

velojym... I live in AR as well and carry one those nifty blue cards.

I cannot say that any of my privacy has been compromised nor did have to jump through hoops. In fact I had to get a statement from the Fayetteville city court regarding a misdemeaner bcause my lawyer did such a fine job of getting my records sealed that even the State Police non criminal investigations (the nice lady who checks you out before you get approved) couldn't get to them. I do not consider that a hoop to jump through, but it did cost me half an hour... oh, well.

The initial cost is a bit high (total of $224) but renewing will only be $80 total. Twenty dollars per year for four more years isn't bad. Big plus is skipping that phone call to .gov everytime you go to buy a gun. Fill out form 4473, present money,ID, and blue card. Pay and be on your merry way.

Granted that my 2A beliefs are offended by having to have the card and its limitations, at least we have that option as a shall issue item. So many folks wish they could have that. Be grateful for what we have.

S&W 337 kit gun 3" barrel in 38 +P with 5 110 gr HP's in it.
Oh yeah, and a 20 lb dumbass orange tomcat that's good at tripping prople in the dark.

SIG P245 is my watching TV gun. Going into the local shop to pick up a P3AT tomorrow so I have something with me at all times, home or elsewhere. Normally have a G23 with me "most times", and a 1911 by the bed. I take a FEG 9HP with me when traveling by airplane (effective 9mm but cheap enough I won't cry if it is "lost")

Paranoid? No. I enjoy guns so it is like having some of my collection near at hand. Also, while the chance of a home or personal attack is slim, I would rather have and not need then need and not have.

Taurus 24/7 Pro, 9mm, with 18 rounds of DoubleTap 115gr. +P gold dots. It's by the bed, but within reach.

I'm at work right now so I am at the mercy of the security guards at the hospital where I work; I have a Gerber E-Z folder in the front pocket of my jeans which are in my locker; I have a Ruger SP-101 in the glove compartment of my car; I have a Ruger GP-100 when I get home and unlock the firearms cabinet; I have a S&W 642 when I get home and unlock the firearms cabinet;

I just got out of bed a little while ago, and since I'm off work today I haven't bothered to change out of sweats, but my Colt Commander is hanging, cocked and locked, on it's gunbelt, about 3' from me, on a hook on the back of the closet door.

My wife's Glock 19 (She's still sleeping), loaded of course, is in her carry purse, about two steps from me in the other direction.

I'm surrounded.

...

Right now, until I get my Beretta Px4 40cal endowed with Tritium Night Sights, it's my Sig P229R CT 9mm, along with Battle_Dog (not really his name), our German Shepherd who has no fears of any unknown humans advancing onto our property or knocking on, or ringing, the front, door/bell, which I have disengaged to frustrate all the paper-hanging salespeople into thinking that nobody is home, and let the Dog sleep in peace.. lol
