inherent accuracy

I know this thread is about handguns but I just hate to see misinformation on the Web. The comment, is not true of any of my rifles. Frankly, I won't own a hunting rifle that doesn't hold sub MOA to beyond 500 yards.

Note that not all shooters are affected the same way by recoil. The less it moves you in a field position as compared to the bench, the less the POI shifts. Most of us aren't that fortunate. That's why I can't precisely zero a rifle for you, and vice-versa. I stand by the statement.

I dont think mechanical accuracy is that important with defensive pistols. If a high quality 1911 can shoot a 1.5 inch group from a vise and an entry level pistol can shoot a 2 inch group from a vise I dont see any advantage if shooting attackers at 10 feet away. Expecially since I'd probably be pulling the trigger four inches off target in every direction since my arm isnt a vise. When someone says a gun is accurate I think they shoot that particular gun well its not so much the gun itself. For benchrest shooting and hunting I think one could utilize the difference, but for combat shooting I think we solved that problem a long time ago. Take a match grade Les Baur that'll do an inch at 25 yards and empty it asap at a paper plate at 1 yard you should have a group of 1/25th of an inch!

Its not important till you need it. I know of some long range pistols shootings. One involved a trooper who was fired on by a rifle armed suspect laying in wait on the side of a trail in the village. Fortunately he missed (partly due to intoxication) the trooper returned fire with 6 rounds and hit the perp with 4 rounds at 30 yards.

Another shooting involved an MP taking out an AK armed mental suject at 80 yards with his M9. There are others. I prefer my guns shoot at least 4 inches at 25 yards. If they do better thats great. Its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

by exchanging your 1911 for a good S&W double action revolver with a minimum barrel length of 4". Thank you and let the fun begin.

I'll put my Wilson up against any revolver you care too. It shoots as well as my Python.

It's not worth arguing over. FWIW, all of my tactical and hunting rifles shoot to the same POI from the bench and while proned out. In fact, any of my "tactical" and/or long distance shooting buddies can take my rifle and start banging 10 inch steel plates well beyond 500 yards with my dope from the bench or prone. The shifting POI is so insignificant as to not even be a factor. Now if you are talking world class benchrest shooting, that's another matter.
