Intifada in France?

Actually the reason we have less of a problem here than in Europe is because in France the Muslims are from places like Algeria, the Sudan and other former French Colonies and possessions. Because of that fact the French were more open to immigration from their colonies and allowed a larger number of immigrants from those areas in. The folks who immigrate to France do so to escape extreme poverty in their native lands, and to:

PROVIDE CHEAP LABOR FOR JOBS FRENCHMEN ARE UNWILLING TO DO.;)

As a result folks who come from the former french colonies are less educated and are dirt poor when they arrive. French society is very stratified with upward mobility limited. The children of those immigrants while being educated in France are finding it difficult to move into the mainstream of society due to some level of racial prejudice.

Muslim immigrants to the United States tend to come from the upper classes of the countries they live in, and are well educated, many come here for college and grad school and settle here.

The mexicans who come here to do those less popular jobs are alot like the Algerians who immigrate to France in their poverty and desire to do any paying job.

The Difference also is that Mexicans who come here legally can have great upward social mobility if they work hard.

JMHO YMMV

a rant that got a bit out of control...

A lot of folks here are taking their words too literally. Lots of knees jerking on both sides.
To a great degree, yes - but not entirely.

Methinks a lot of people on all sides are spoilin' fer a fight. We've lived in peace far too long, people get bored, and there's nothing that says excitement more than The Imminent Fall Of Western Civilization (TM).

In the 60+ years (that's at least two generations) since WWII the worst we've seen is a few "police actions" in faraway places most people can't even find on a map. (Yes those wars were horrible and people died and precious cultural artifacts were destroyed...but frankly most people don't care. Congress couldn't be bothered to actually call 'em wars.) The 52 states of North America are enjoying their bread and circuses. Europe has practically unified into a USA-type nation, ending millenia of periodic wars of conquest. Middle East nations generally leave each other alone, save the occasional squabble with Israel. Africa is running at a low boil, ignored by all so long as DeBeers can keep their warehouses full of sparkles. South America is uniformly ignored by all. The Far East is a deadlocked family feud, punctuated by periodic outbursts by Tourette's Syndrome sufferer cousin Kim.
The world is, as much as we could seriously & realistically ever hope for, at peace - and has been for decades.

Armies are, on the whole, idle. Populations want to be defended ... from something.
Sampson: "I strike quickly, being moved."
Gregory: "But thou art not quickly moved to strike."
Sampson: "A dog of the house of Montague moves me."
...
Gregory: "Draw thy tool! here comes two of the house of the Montagues."
...
Tybalt: "What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee: Have at thee, coward!"
- Romeo and Juliet
I contend that humans need strife. Lacking a "them" to struggle against, people will seek out villans to place on pedestals, and reasons to attack them.

What I see on this thread is just a tiny subset of what is brewing around the world: people, having selected their villans, are now trying to view their villans' acts as something worth fighting against. Humans have a natural tendency to refrain from combat - up to a point, but have a powerful innate desire to reach that point.

Yes, there is a realistic threat from Islamofacism. There is justification in vigilance, watching for signs of impending theats lest those be manifest and succeed before opposition begins. ...yet the cries of "Europe is falling!" and "Nuke Bahgdad!" strike me as less the result of actual threat, and far more born of the bored looking to hold a good lynching.

Far more Americans will die today driving home from work than will be terminated by terrorists. Where is the outrage?

Restore the 2nd Amendment. Arm citizens. Go about your business, and deal with assailants as appropritate.
Pity France won't do the same, even when unarmed police are being randomly attacked. Plug a few thugs, and avert the Intifada in France, lest it spread here.

Funny how nearly every statement about Europe in this thread has been soundly refuted by people who actually live there.

Perhaps you need to look up the word "refute."

Some random statement about American street gangs -- made by someone who doesn't have firsthand knowledge of them either -- neither confirms nor denies anything about a religious movement, one way or another.

In all states cops are armed, and in most states we can be armed as well. The Muslim problem could be solved so simply if only they weren't so gutless over here.

Absolutely! We of the Estados Unidos de America (aka El Norte) are muy contenta to enjoy la protecion de los Federales magnifico! Ole!

In other words, I don't think Muslims are gonna be our problem. ;)

I listened to a Muslim youth in France explain this on BBC. He said the presence of armed French police was provoking them in their neighborhood.

Looks like these folks already believe they have taken over part of France and can tell the French authorities how to behave. And guess what they will do with the Jews when they have the upper hand.

Realistic scenario in the incredibly unlikely event that masses of young Muslims riot in CA suburbs? That's pretty much what happened in the LA riots, yes? I don't recall the White Aryan Resistance taking to the streets in '92 to face the "mud race menace". Nor do I recall noble citizen militias, led by officers of the Greatest Generation, forming platoons and marching into Compton to restore order.-MV

I live in L.A. and was here back then. Had the riots spread into "non-white" neighborhoods I think you have had seen armed resistance similar to what the Korean immigrants offered. I don't really see the people I know letting anyone burn down Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and Echo Park without a firefight of serious proportions. We'll let the Westsiders take care of themselves.

Perhaps you're ignoring the expanding sections of several major Scandinavian cities that police will no longer enter?
What?! I'm sorry but you've been badly misinformed.

There is nothing even remotely like that sort of situation here!

My brother in law lives in Stockholm, travels thru Sweden extensively, and confirms the Muslim "cops-won't-go" zones exist in several large cities

I'm betting you see the Mexican Intifada in the American Southwest before too long. Irredentism can be as strong a call as culture or religion.

A few less of these rhetorical questions that stretch credibility?

Separation between "Muslims" and "Jihadists"? All-inclusive generalities in posts tickles my moderator button.

Think twice, post once?

People from French colonies entered France as citizens of France. The Muslims there, mostly from Algeria, entered as citizens. The same sort of thing holds in Great Britain, for those of the former Empire.

the payback for Imperialism??

fuel for thought isn't it?

If only the U.S. had listened to the home grown uproar against our occupation of the Phillipines after the Spanish-American war!

I always liked Teddy's big stick (the great white fleet)....but maybe imperialism was 180 degrees out of sink with our heritage and "core values".

Europe = Doomed. America might survive. Or not. Australia has perhaps a better chance.

Um, the same Australia that had full-out brawls on the beach back in (their) summer, between Aussie nationalist gangs and Lebanese immigrants?

And before anyone goes on the Muslim tangent, around 40% of Lebanon is non-Muslim. Since Christian Lebanese emigrate more and have far more overseas business connections than the poorer Shia Muslims, it's fair to say that the majority of Aussie Lebanese are Christian.

But I'll be fair and bring it back onto a Muslim tangent: Australia is just a couple hours by boat from the most populous Muslim nation in the world...

A hint for the non-geographic: Arabs make up only a small portion of the Muslim world; most of the world's Muslims understand Arabic about as well as you understand Greek.

Pretty radical stuff, huh?

Alright. Maybe there are differences in Islam, but maybe the infidel in that scenario paid the tax. Besides, if i understand it right, i seems to say worship, and let worship; not live and let live.
