I was at the NRA show, and handled the FN SCARs, but really couldn't find the beauty in them. They were blocky, heavy, plastic, and ugly.

What is the appeal to these?

Yeah, they look ugly. Sort of like Glock ugly.
But, the SCAR is probably also Glock reliable.
Function is more important that beauty for me,
when it comes to firearms. I have an engraved
Browning A5 in 12 gauge, but my Mossberg 590
is my go-to shotgun.
:D

The SCAR is beautiful...The price they are going for is ugly $4k for Pete's sake.. I might pay $2,500 but no way in Hell will I pay 4-5k for one. Not when a Sig 556 SWAT is available. I like FN and their products, I have a PS90 and FS2000 and will buy a SCAR if they ever go to MSRP of around $2499 there just isn't 4k worth of gun there.

I think they're pretty nice looking with a short barrel. The longer military barrel options and the civilian legal one look like they need more of a fore end on them to me.

10-Ring MSRP started out around $2400 limited availability/gouging has raised their shelf or Gunbroker price to the 4k plus level.

I really don't care what it looks like as long as it performs as advertised and I would like to sample a Mk 17 Mod 0 ASAP.

Is the SCAR ugly? Yes. Do I care? No. Would I buy one? Maybe if it were in the $1500 or lower price bracket...

The price of the SCAR is no where near what it was months ago. Not many can sell them above $3000 on GB. There are a lot of people buying them this days at around 2600-2700$.

Just checked the FN Forum this morning and someone got one for $2554.48 + shipping. The prices are coming down and a lot more rifles have showed up at dealers.

About the ugly....I think the stock is ugly, but from what I read, is one of the most confortable stocks on the market...... butt-ugly tho.:D

They were blocky, heavy, plastic, and ugly.
I handeled one at a 3 gun match that FNH USA brought a truck to, and to me, they did not seem that heavy at all...espically the .308 version, it was quite light. The SCAR-L fit me perfectly too...
I will agree though, they are very ugly.

I don't care for the way they look, but tend to think ARs are pretty ugly too. Doesn't stop me from owning them.

I'm doing a transfer on one next week, can't wait to see it.

I'd say no, they aren't ugly. They look very ergonomic and rugged.

If they function well, it would be nice to own one but what semi-auto is worth that kind of money? I have a Sig556 and a couple AR's now and they still don't equal the price of one SCAR... :scrutiny:

Yes its ugly! It looks like a fish it would definetly be funny if the butt stock folded then it would definetly be like a fish.

I actually don't mind the price. No, I can't afford one but if they're priced high and the Army is still wanting to replace their M4's with them, FN must be putting that money somewhere back into the firearm.

the buttstock looks like a boot...definitely ugly. I'd rather have a HK416 or RobArms XCR before the SCAR. But after I had one of those I'd certainly want to add it to my collection :D

I like it. Looks rock solid.. I care about function more than form. Hell, I would use a gun that looks like that ugly fish if it worked the best.
