Both the NRA, AND the ACLU.

Hopefully the ACLU will not conflict with the NRA and visa-versa, because then I'll have to make some calls.

I like your thinking. I see a lot of liberal bashing on the various sites, but this liberal loves his guns and knows many others that do too. Sometimes liberals have to be a little more discreet about it since we sometimes have to live and work among "the others."

NAMBLA? What is that, some liberal organization?

NAMBLA= North American Man Boy Love Association

The ACLU has agreed to represent them in a law suit asserting that not allowing them to sleep with prepubescent boys voilates their civil rights.

They are not supporting the illegal act of NAMBLA. Get your facts right:

Most importantly,

It is easy to defend freedom of speech when the message is something many people find at least reasonable. But the defense of freedom of speech is most critical when the message is one most people find repulsive.

These people (the ACLU) are on our side, weather you believe so or not. They vehemently defend our First, Fourth, and Fifth Ammendment rights.

That's like saying the NRA is fighting for gun rights so that murderers can have easy access to guns.

As the saying goes, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I've never believed this:

I can't immagine the ACLU ever defending any rights. They usually provide a "twisted" interpretation of a Supreme Court decision that doesn't seem reasonable unless you are drinking the kool-aide on the Left Coast.

Mudcamper,

Thanks for the information/link.
I had, perhaps foolishly, taken it at face value that the ACLU was supporting NAMBLA's right to engage in their predilection.

I'll need to look further into the case at hand.

The ACLU has defended religious speech many times. I can also remember at least one news story where the ACLU defended a student who was suspended for wearing a shirt with a pro-gun message on it, but I can't find the link now.

First the fact that you post a link from the ACLU website to support your argument is a joke. Thats like arguing gun control works and then going to the brady website for facts.

Bottom line, the ACLU has gone to bat for a organization that advocates pedophelia and sexual relationships with underaged boys and many of whose members have already been arrested for these crimes. Owning a gun is legal. Using a gun properly is legal. Boning a 10 year old boy isn't legal.

Spin it all you want, but your donations are helping to fund this.

Owning any type of AK in California is illegal. Owning any mags over 10 rounds is also illegal in many other states. I'm sure you're fine with this and feel that the NRA going to bat for people who are trying to get those laws repealed and say they violate their 2nd Amendment rights don't deserve your funding either?

I've interned with the ACLU. While there are some liberal agenda things going on there, on the whole I felt they were trying to protect civil rights and their overall goal was positive. Sure, there are things that I don't agree with that they get involved in, but when it comes to protecting our civil rights, I felt that supporting both the NRA and the ACLU has the big ones covered.

As for my political stance, I'm a moderate. I agree with ideals from both sides. No sense going into that whole debate though.

I just support our civil rights. If I find more organizations that are effective in protecting civil rights, I'll be happy to join them too. JPFO is on my to-do list.

also, everybody, it's important to remember that while with politics and such, certain groups have disagreements over how particular issues should be handled, but it is EXTREMELY important to remember that here in the USA we are all Americans, and "United We Stand".

Don't let politics get in the way of remembering this. :)

Ya know, I'm new here and all that, but I just want to say that I approve of not only your decision to join both organizations, but also your decision to mention it here. There are so many boards where the members will make you feel like a criminal for saying something that the loudest of them deem unpopular; it's refreshing to be somewhere that people can feel at ease saying things like this.

I approve :D

:what: at first I thought that was a joke, but after some research, I can't say I have the stomach for dinner.

If you can't understand the difference between raping boys/pedophelia and gun ownership then I'm 100% certian that you are neither responsible nor intelligent enough to own a gun.
