Kind of a waste of money this year

I am referring to my range membership fee. At least it is very reasonable even if did increase this year but they took it easy on the geezers and it only went up $10 for us. I have used the range only three time this year and the last time was just as a spotter for my grandson that had replaced an AR barrel. At this point in time I don't know if I will be able to make another trip this year. Due to a hip problem that hasn't responded to treatment and continues to worsen I am very limited in my walking or even standing ability. I have another appointment in a few weeks and will see if anything improves but at his point I am not optimistic.

I have been pretty achy-shaky since March, worse in May; back surgery in June.
I have been doing some casual shooting for the past couple of weeks and hey, I am taking my physical therapist to the range this weekend. Doctor says I can resume action shooting like IDPA and USPSA after three or four weeks of therapy, I will make the attempt at the September schedule.

Wife and I have memberships at our local indoor range, and we make it pay. But it very recently went under new ownership. We know the new owner and are worried about it. He's run several gun businesses in our area into the ground over the years. Hoping the dues don't go up because of this.

Hope y'all heal up and get to the range more!

My club membership fee is fixed to the time I retired. Retirement fees do increase once in a while, but my rate is fixed at my retirement date. Luckey me. Although I still do scrap the club brass, I wouldn't have to. As a retirement benefit, I am no longer required to do club chores. I scrap brass due to a scrap yard with great rates only couple of miles from my house. On the other hand if someone really p*****me off, they may find out how much fun I have separating and hauling brass in for the members because I can stop that chore anytime I want.

I have only been to my club once this year. But I’d hate to let membership lapse and have to re join. $100 a year isn’t bad. I’ll eventually take my boys there with me but they’re only 7 and not ready for real guns yet.

In this area, there is an indoor range and a separate outdoor range. Both are prohibitively expensive.
The annual dues at the outdoor range also require an unknown number of hours of "sweat equity" for property maintenance. The outdoor range's due are (last I heard) now over $350/yr.

The range where I shoot isn't cheap, but it's still the best option. It has been $250/year but members over 65 get $100 off. I turned 65 a couple of months before I had to renew and was looking forward to only paying $150 this year. BUT... they raised the fee by $100 and reduced the number of days they are open. They used to only be closed on Monday's. Now they are closed Monday and Tuesday. So, I still paid $250 for this year. I suppose it could have been worse.

The good news, a lot of guys let their membership lapse meaning fewer shooters. But reducing the number of days we can shoot has balanced that out.

Mine is $12.50 per month.I get there 3-4 times a year for relaxed unbothered shooting when sighting in etc. Most of the time I shoot right here on the farm.

I had a hip replacement in oct 2012. When i couldn't sleep it was time. Im very happy i had it done. If you decide to get yours done. Find a surgeon who does the muscle sparring approach. I was able to walk the same evening after i had it done.

Two MRIs show my hip joint to be OK, According to the two specialists I have been seeing I have a giant economy sized case of bursitis and nerve problems. Rest, time, and steroid shots is supposed to fix me to some extent. It's taking a looong time and I am bored silly from rest although that is about al lI can do right now. Even hobbling to the bathroom is a chore. I have a lathe and mill that are going to rust up from disuse (not really, both are well protected) if I don't get back to my hobbies pretty soon. I think I hear little voices from inside my safe every time I shuffle past it saying "shoot me, please take me out and shoot me".

Ignore them. If they're anything like mine, they're just bad influences that'll get your hopes up for the first few rounds, then throw one wide out of spite.
Get yourself better however you need to. Guns will still be there when you're ready.

I didn't buy a state range pass this year because my work schedule makes it not as convenient as it used to be. Haven't renewed my indoor range membership for the same reason. When I have time to shoot its on family property about 5 mins away. I spend about half an hour mowing a 50 yard lane, an hour shooting, and another hour digging around the grass and weeds looking for my brass. Considering it's an hour each way to either "range", it's more efficient to shoot closer to home even if it's more work.

The local indoor range is 300 a year unlimited visits and a target per trip. I renew on Black Friday every year cause it's half off. They get more out of me anyway since it's connected to the gun shop. To shoot my rifles I have to drive 55 miles to the range. $135 a year membership fee and 20 bucks a visit. Saturday is open to the public and Sunday is High dollar membership day only. They are closed on Mon and Tuesday now due to low turnout. I got 3 days a week to shoot these days and go early to beat the heat...

I have excellent public outdoor ranges and trap range within 10 minutes, at no cost other than an Izaak Walton membership which I would have anyway. There are no indoor ranges within 100 miles other than law enforcement ranges, however. I try to get there every week, but it seems as if other demands on my time often prevail.

As I've mentioned before, our "range" is a county gravel pit about 2 miles south of the house. A portion of our property taxes goes towards paying for it.
I guess you could say that we're "wasting our money" in the winter because that gravel pit is full of snow for a few months then, and we'd be crazy to drive down into it just to go shooting that time of year. On the other hand, even non-shooting property owners in the county pay property taxes. Thanks folks! I appreciate that.

Man, ranges are dirt cheap around here compared to what some of you guys are paying. The two I use are $20/year, and I bought a lifetime membership at one of them two years ago for $200.

My indoor pistol range with unlimited visits is $300+ a year and is 4 miles from home. The outdoor rifle range with limited use (fri-sat) is $135 and 20 miles from home.

Not cheap for sure, but a run to the first spot in the desert where open shooting is not banned is a 150 mile round trip. So I pay for the time, convenience and avoiding the range rats who trash the desert.

Stay safe.

I hear that Rio. There are three of us who head out to a certain desert area that is legal to shoot, but, not well known. We take a couple of trash cans and a couple of rakes and make SURE it's clean when we leave. I hate trash rats.

Same here, but my range membership is $50 for the year, I've only shot trap once this year but I'm still in the text thread and twice a week I get a reminder of what I'm missing out on.

On the upside, I've been renting for 6 years but I'm in the process of working on my old place and added 3 bedrooms and a master bath and I'll be getting outta town and back up into the hills where I think I belong. Town certainly had its charms, and it was only 5 minutes from the range, I used to be able to shoot as much as I wanted at my old place but then some really liberal neighbor moved in, and when I say neighbor I mean she lives a ¼ mile down the road and really liked to complain about me. The concept of target practice was totally lost on her and I expect that she will not be happy to see me again......

Get a walker and kit it up to be a "tactical walker" (no, you don't have to paint it Empire White).

Good ides but I don't believe it will fit inside with the rest of my shooting equipment and rifles in my 2 door jeep which is my range trip vehicle. I have had the idea of one of those gadgets with wheels on it that people with lower leg injuries use but it would have to have balloon tires on it to navigate a trip on the rifle range. It is ungraded pasture. humps, bumps, rocks, weeds, and grass that it would have to travel over between the benches and rarget stands.. I haven't searched to see what is available yet but am seriously considering it . It would even be a help outside around the house. Gravel driveways and a walking stick don't get along together very well. I keep putting it off hoping the doctors will come up with something to give me some relief.

The yearly range fee for we geezers only went to $60 a year from $50 so it's not really a big deal . I just miss being able to go shoot like I did last year and the years previous. #1 grandson called earlier this morning and suggested we go to the range early Saturday morning. All I will have to do is ride along and sit in a folding chair while there but I'll mange to limp around some anyway.

I don’t have to pay range fees unless I am shooting a match somewhere. That said, I have to maintain the whole place myself and pay the taxes...

Same here..

Prop taxes, spray paint for steel, gas/diesel for mowing, improvements and maintenance costs make a lot of private/public ranges a bargain.

Buuuut, doing what you want, when you want.. priceless!
