some of you may remember my post about getting rid of my fire arms. well i cleaned them and packed them away and decided to just leave them alone until i felt ready again.

last night around 11:30 me and my friend were driving back from exxon. about 10 minutes from my house we get behind someone driving 15 miles an hour in a 25. Then he swerves off the road and gets behind us. He folows us (in a white suburban) for a mile then turns and cuts us off a tenth of a mile down the road. he blows through the stop sign and gets in front of us. he slows down and we do this the rest of the way back to my house. There is one hill up to my house in myu subdivision, we are drivbing up this and half way through the hill he slows down to 5 mph. At this point the jokes about how drunk he is stop and we are genuinly worried. Then he turns at the four way, and we go striaght towards my house. We are sitting in the drive way in his car thinking man what a [removed] drunk [removed]. then his car goes down the street, turns into a driveway, turns around, then parks in my driveway blocking my friends car from leaving. He gets out of the car and starts taking picture with his camera phone of the plate. At this point i roll down the window and ask him what the hell he's doing.

we step out of the car and he walks towards my friend (in my driveway, mind you) and kinda backs him up to his car. He starts screaming at him that we had our brights on. and that we were going over the speed limit.

at this point i start backing away slowly towards the house. i yell at my friend"dont answer his questions, don't talk to him, he's [removed] in the head, get in my house now!)

so he waits on the porch at the door to keep an eye on **** while i grab my glock, load it, and put it in my pocket. this takes about 5 minutes because it's all packed away. i Run down stairs and back to the door. and say (im still not sure if he's an undercover or what at this point, so im still polite) "Sir i have to ask you to leave my property or i'l call the police" to which he replies "good, get the goddamn magistrate!" so i run in and get the phone and give him a second to change his mind. when i walk back out my friend said he left.

in all, this lasted about 10-15 minutes in my driveway

i didnt call the cops since he left, however this morning i filed a police report at our subdivision police department. hopefully i did the right thing

i didnt want to escalate the situation with a gun if i didnt need to and i didnt want him to go to jail if he just snapped due to a bad day. so i feel i did what my personal ethics would allow.

all in all, i learned theres some seriously [removed] up poeple in the world. and this stuff can happen to you even if you live in a subdivision. glad i kept my guns.

i hope this is somewhat readible i stayed up all night drinking coffee with the lights dimmed. and went to work. not much sleep.

the cop said i should have driven to the P.D., that somehting like this should be percieved as a gang initiation in our area, we are close to the biggest bunch of MS-13 in the country.

anyways, what would you have done?

SIMPLE RULE - "last night made me thankful for my gun

some of you may remember my post about getting rid of my fire arms."

I don't keep up with everyone on the site. Why would you get rid of your firearms????????

As for what I'd NOT do ....

I'd never lead someone who'd exhibited highly aggressive behavior and then followed me, to my home.

I'd have driven to either a police station, or a fire station.

I wouldn't want someone such as the man you mentioned, knowing where I and my family lived.

Don't go home, go to the police station!

Why are your guns packed away?...

Call the police. you do have a cellphone?

he turned at a four way before my house. at that point we were convinced he was just drunk and confused. we thought he had made it home and went to our house. his earlier driving could be passed off as drug induced. The real panic didnt start until he pulled into my driveway.

i do not have a cell phone.

i should have gone to the P.D. but didnt. sometimes they do more harm than good. and i like to give people the chance to choose the better option at my own risk, theres good in all of us somewhere.

Call the police right away and don't show the bad guys where you live.

Is it safe to assume your guns won't be packed away again?

i like to give people the chance to choose the better option at my own risk

Your self worth is so low, you are more comfortable with the idea of being a victim.

You're afraid of what you might do with your guns.

I see were this is going....

You more than most, NEED a cell phone to call for the help you don't feel comfortable providing for yourself.

it is safe to assume one gun will be at the ready. thankfully i had two loaded mags ready to go. more thought is now given to restocking federal JHP and cycling out old ammo. i think those clips were still loaded from the range with 6 month old winchester crap.

not good.

my self worth is not low sir. My hand never left the gun. I'm less willing to kill and more willing to let someone save themselves at my own expense. He could have just had a really bad day. <Irrelevant and argument-inducing comment removed.>

Your willing to die so garbage can live.

Please define self worth, I must have missed something. :scrutiny:

Sense of Self-Worth = Willing to choose your own path, actions, standards of behavior, and acceptance of risk regardless of what others think.

Which can include being willing to take risks in order to allow someone else a way out, even though folks on the 'net will say, "Shoulda killed 'em soon's they looked crosswise atcha."

You know what guys? **** happens...he did what he did. Other than taking a bit more precaution with taking the direct route home, he did ok given the circumstances. Nobody was hurt and everyone went home, including the jerk. so give the guy a break and quite trying to psychoanalyze him.

I may have painted with a broad brush, but you just defended the guy with a roller.

Not especially defending...just offering that when it comes to self worth it is very reasonable to say, "I value myself too highly to treat human life as something I can take without exploring alternatives, even if that exploration is risky."

Whether you jumped up and down yelling "kill, kill" or not, you know that people do.

Did you read his other thread about giving up guns because people "walked into his house unannounced" and he "almost killed them?"

I don't want to own guns anymore.

I was playing guitar the other day, and two people walked into my house uninvited and unannounced. Luckily the gun was out of reach or i would have killed two of my good friends. I was so freaked out that to men were walking into my house i didnt recognize them for a split second, they had hats on and i coulndt see their face.

jump to 15 minutes later. Were sitting and all the sudden we here the front door open and someone walking up the stairs i run out to the top of the stairs and allmost kill another friend.

despite the fact that 3 people walked into my house unannounced, that was their fault, i see more of a chance for me to hurt someone i care about than actually protect me.

That thread, as well as this one, seem to beg for psychoanalysis.

Whether you jumped up and down yelling "kill, kill" or not, you know that people do.

Very true Ed. Blood lust is a topic so important, I think there's a sticky around here somewhere.

Sounds to me like he has become afraid of having a handgun around. If one becomes afraid of a gun then Yes get rid of it. Because you don't need to own one. Just like driving if your afraid of driving you don't need to own a car.

No, I didn't read the other post. But after reading what you pasted, I still don't see what that part has to do with this event, other than the prior event made him stow his firearm away.

It sounded like he wasn't the one driving, so he was at the mercy of whoever was. Once at the house, what was he supposed to do? I say call the cops, but I also wasn't there and maybe the situation wasn't as bad as it's being made out to be...or perhaps it was worse, I don't know...but neither does anyone else on here.

You can either think the worst about someone or give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't get why people always think the worst and make asssumptions to that effect. Greg House is a tv character.

Even with the other post that you pasted on here, it doesn't sound at all like he literally was going to shoot anyone, just that the incident scared him to think twice about his habits.

I won't psycho-analyze, but something is very troublesome with you owning firearms with your mindset that is portrayed in this thread, and the other. You seem to take a little comfort in owning firearms, but are terrified of what you might do with it. Personally, I highly suggest that you take some extensive and advanced firearms training so that you are more comfortable with firearms, and the potential use of them.

Many years ago I had a "friend" walk in my apartment un-announced. His bad timing that I had just cleaned my shotgun and put it in its place; loaded. Fortunately, I identified my target, and then ripped him a new one. I wasn't terrified of what I might have done, I was p**sed at him for puttting me in that situation, and thinking he could just walk in like that.

simple rule, I'd say your heart is in the right place but agree with Birddog1911 that you should take some self defense training. There's nothing wrong with giving someone a chance to "choose a better option" but proper training will help you minimize the risk to yourself and be more confident with firearms.

Any further discussion of religion will get this thread locked and will earn a warning or banning for the poster.

Now, back to the topic: hey, it sounds like locking your doors might be a decent idea. Then you might not have to kill everyone who walked in unannounced.

John

LOL the locked doors work for me! I have some really good friends who sometimes walk into the house AFTER knocking and calling my name a couple times. If Im listenning to some music with headphones, or playing my guitars, I lock the doors. I HATE surprises!

Unless we've just spoken on the phone and they know they're expected, all my friends knock before entering*. It's just good manners...and safer.

John

*Though I keep my doors locked at almost all times, in any case.

my doors are always locked, even when i am in my dorm room facing the door. it doesn't take more than a second to reach over and unlock it if i hear a knock and ask who it is. on the other hand, if someone wants to "surprise" me in a not-so-pleasant way, i have all the time i need to make a phone call and prepare myself.

My front door locks automatically

That said, this situation could have been handled so much better. A weapon that you have to go get and load before use, isn't a weapon.

Based on what I've read so far the OP is blaming the weapon for his poor behavior. "I almost shot someone for walking into my home (which I don't lock up) unannounced." It must be the fault of the pistol. The fact that my friends know (apparently) that I don't lock my doors couldn't possibly have been a contributing factor."

As to the other, if the situation is serious enough to warrant a pistol, the situation is serious enough to call the cops sooner than the morning after.
