Let's say... $600 for a new gun, for the heck of it. What would you get?

So was the HS2000 (SA XD)..............what's your point?
My point was the FNP was made to compete in a lower price range and it shows, it's just not in the same league as the P99. Personally I think the XDM is a decent gun, but I'm not really a fan of the original XD.

The $650 P99 at Buds is the night sights model, they have the regular sights model for a little under $550

oh, i like night sights. no prob paying extra there. thanks for the info.

Get the K31 or P1 now before they get out of your price range.

The others will always be around.

you raise a good point. could get the p1 and a k31 for 600. im never really constrained by peice but those two are only going to go up in price.

I have an FNP in .357 sig. I do like it, but I'd prefer not to get another FNP without at least trying something else, but the FN was my first choice. My next choice would probably be a thunder 380, double stacked .45 (my favs are the USP or the XDm), or if you'll permit a wheel gun here, a ruger blackhawk in .327 fed mag.

I have seen so much good posted about CZ's I'd like to check out a 75B. Would that interest you?

already own a bersa thunder ;) not much desire for a blackhawk though. now, a sp101 in 327mag... thats hot.

If you don't have a CZ75 then you need to at least shoot one. You'll be amazed at how accurate it is and how well it handles. Fits in your price range too and you can get night sites too.

Can't argue with the SP101, though I personally didn't love the shae of the grip (I suspect changing them would help alot). I learned to shoot with a ruger single action .22so the blackhawk just feels right. It seems like we share an affinity for odder cartridges, another one that might be worth looking for though it'd be a pain to even to reload for, is the original Jerico 941 in .41 ae (ideally one with both barrels).

As for 10/22's, I guess I'm one of the rare people who owned a 10/22 that didn't shoot that well. I loved how the gun felt, so I wanted it to be a good rifle. Mine was in near new condition, so it may have had some problem that could've been fixed, but I didn't bother. I got rid of it. I also had a single-six that wasn't that good. Never wanted another one, but I still like Rugers. I had others that were excellent, including the one I own now.

I mention this only because 10/22's have a dominant presence in the market and a great reputation. But you can still get the occasional dud.

If you have all of your bases covered and can afford the cost to shoot it, I say the G20 10mm. You convert them to shoot 9x25 Dillon as well as 357Sig and 40SW. The 9x25 Dillon looks fun, but, it's actually more expensive than 10mm ammo. I think that you'd have to be a reloader to really enjoy either one those cartridges.

idea #8 a walther p99<-----THIS!!!,and make sure it's an AS.

absolutely and without a doubt the best polymer DA pistol on the market and it has been for years. if you want to ever carry a DA or if you want a polymer DA for any kind of defensive situation,it's the best one out there in stock form bar none,..period. i like it better than the p30.

it's about the size and weight of a g19 but with the sweetest DA of any service/duty pistol in completely stock form and it just gets better with time. in fact, the combination of it's trigger, grip, natural pointability and very precise barrel to slide lock-up,also makes it excellent for target shooting. sure, there's some pretravel but you don't shoot the pretravel. trust me on this, from break to reset, break to reset,it challenges some competition triggers out there,..and in DA,it's the equivalent of most hammer fired pistols out there AFTER having put the next (or two) lighter main spring and doing a bit of fluffing.

it also doesn't hurt that it's extremely reliable and looks great too.

just wait until you put several hundred rounds through it,..you'll see.

are you a DA fan? do you want to be fast and accurate with a DA pull? do you prefer the safety of a DA pull instead of a safety lever? would you miss a sweet SA on another trigger system? do you dislike the safety levers on triggers ala glock?.....then the p99 AS is for you.
