Let's say... $600 for a new gun, for the heck of it. What would you get?

Well since you seem to have most of the basics covered; why not get the "real" basic... A .22lr... Get the ruger 10/22, buy a 25rnd mag or two and a damn good scope for how ever much you want to spend (i would go Bushnell or a lower end Leupold. Nitrex maybe?) and it will still be less than $600

do it. you won't regret it

Walther P99. Buy the one w/o night sights. Then check out the night sights available for it and see which ones you like best. Its the best 9mm out there in my opinion.

If you're a fan of steel handguns, how about a Browning Hi-Power or a CZ-75? Both are SA designs which have a great "feel" to them, much like the M1911.

Eh, I'm lazy. I'd just buy it with factory night sights :D

I eventually want both of those, so they're definitely on the list. If I buy a hi-power though, i want a really pretty one, and the shiny new 75th anniversary ones are going for about $750 from CDNN, which is more than I wanted to spend.

I'm leaning toward picking up a P99 right now, actually, because it's a "real" gun to me. My collection is slanted too heavily toward milsurp at the moment.

Here, let me see if I can barf it all out:

ar-15
ak-47
ak-74
sks
savage mk2
remington 870
mosin m44
three mosin 91/30's
nagant revolver
tokarev tt-33
tokarev m57
bulgarian makarov
pa-63
two p-83's
two cz-82's
bersa thunder
walther pk380
sig 226
glock 27
springfield emp
ria tactical
dan wesson patriot marksman
taurus pt709
ruger lcp
sig 238
xd 45
ruger 22/45
ruger gp100
ruger sp101
smith model 10 (on the way, might get to my ffl today actually)

i'm probably leaving some stuff out...

Upon seeing the full list, I like the .327 sp101/taurus subby idea or maybe an older colt revolver (for variety).

i love my 357 sp101, so a 327 sp101 would be nice, but perhaps pricey for how little i'd actually use it. i might actually carry that taurus snub in 327 sometimes if i had it.

life is full of difficult decisions :D

XDM all the way, I love my .40 Smith and am still amazed of how light the recoil is.

A Glock Mod 20 10MM would enhance anyones collection and would make a great shooter and belt gun for the trail. A Ruger New Vaquero in .44 Spec. (Davidson's Special Run) would be another option, low recoil boomer for a fun filled afternoon of shooting and you could dress it up a little with some fancy grips. Although, I'm not sure what they are good for but a Ruger Alaskan .45/454 would surely make a statement in anyones collection. You will need a couple more hundred for that one. Good luck with your venture!

hey how about the sti gp6 or beretta px4? anyone have experience with either of these?

A LNIB M&P40c with a good deal of ammo. Getting the M&P this weekend, for 460, which would leave 140 for ammo.

Scratch that, getting a rami p in .40 S&W for 420, with 80 in ammo / extra mag

Walther P1, by a mile.

It is a piece of history, and they're going to go up in value, just like Lugers did. It will likely be a good, if not great shooter. But the real value is historical. It will be a true collector's piece.

Speaking of which, do you have a Luger? If you've got 40 guns, maybe you should sell one, add the proceeds to your account to have $1k, and get a Luger, before they go up any more.

I shot one a few weeks ago, and it was wonderful. Perfect balance, very accurate, very low recoil. These too, are only going up.

Aw, hell. Get out of here with your making sense...

I bought my wife an FNP-9. It's a good shooter and fairly accurate. However, my Sig Pro 2022 is a better gun - and cheaper. You can pick up a 2022 in 9mm with factory Sig night sights for $400. Spend the remaining $200 on ammo and extra mags. Just MHO.

Smaug, I ordered a P1. HAPPY NOW? lol.

I think I'll still end up buying a FNP-9 tomorrow anyway, but you at least pushed me over the edge with the P1.

I have an STI Spartan on it's way to me now, for $630 after FFL transfer fee..that's what I spent $600 on..
