Let's say... $600 for a new gun, for the heck of it. What would you get?

I feel like buying a new gun for the heck of it. I already own 40 or so, so I do have all bases covered (e.g. glock, 1911s, ar, ak, revolvers, carry guns, 12ga, sigs, comm bloc guns, a 22/45, etc)

Therefore, this new gun needs to serve no real purpose other than to be a gun :D

That said, what would you guys do in my position? Any suggestions?

A few random ideas I had:

1. FNP or FNX in 9mm, or 45. Why? Well, it would actually be a "real" gun, and I've always thought they're cool.

2. Buckmark. I already own a 22/45, but hey, maybe it would be nice to check out the competition.

3. Some 22lr semi-auto tacticool rifle. They're cool. 'Nuff sed.

4. A K31 and a bunch of ammo for it.

5. Some 10/22, since I don't own one.

6. CDNN has Taurus snubs in .327mag for under $300. Why? Beats me. Might be cool. Don't own anything in .327mag.

7. A Walther P1. AIM has them for $320, and they're pretty coo..

8. A Walther P99. I've always thought they're kind of cool.

9. A 10mm glock. Everyone needs a 10mm, right?

10. A XDm in 9mm. I own a XD 45 and like it. I'm a 9mm fan, so maybe a XDm in 9mm would be cool.

Uh, any other ideas? Feel free to toss anything out there.

the Apex parts make a world of difference, even over the M&P Pro with Performance Center Sear.

I liked the P99, it shot well. it was accurate and once broken in the trigger was nice.

Okay, I agree.

Lol. See, here's the thing about my xd 45. I hate that I like it. I'm a steel pistol fan, a 1911 fan, a fan of guns with "soul." My xd 45 is an ugly, soulless personal protection appliance. It doesn't move me, I have no desires to take pics of it in cool locations.

But ... man, I shoot it very well, it soaks up recoil better than any 1911, it's dead nuts reliable, and it holds 14 rounds of 45acp.

So while I think a xdm in 9mm would be good to own for these reasons... man, I dunno. it doesn't do much for me or move me. Maybe? Lol.

The FNP 45 USG has had some issues.........if worked out it is an awesome poly gun.
16 rds of .45 ACP, DA/SA, 3 mags, safety and decocker...........all for $600.

I love my P99, I also have a FNP-9 and the P99 is much nicer. The FNP was originally a $300 gun, it was a good deal at that price but at the $450-$550 the FNP and FNX go for now there are better choices. The DA trigger is a stiff 12 lbs, the polymer frame somehow feels a little flexible and cheap compared to other polymer guns, and the trigger has almost no curve, making my trigger finger drag across the trigger guard. The P99 has great ergonomics and a much better DA/SA trigger, the DA pull is only 8 lbs, and having the option of the long but light AS mode is nice as well.

Eh maybe not for you, but if It was my I'd get an m&p40 pro 5" barrel(I'd probably add apex parts down line, just really want the 5" barrel). If you don't want .40s&w you could do an m&p9 pro 5" barrel.

Cmp garand

Now that's a real contender. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

Very interesting, and yeah, I did hear good things about the P99 trigger. How many mags does it come with?

I read your thread title and immediately thought of your #1 before I even saw it. I think that you're on the right track there.

Handgun: Good Used Ruger MK II, or NIB Buckmark.
These are very good for new shooters, including kids...

Still may I suggest a long gun, even though this thread is in Autoloaders?

H&R /NEF Youth, .410/ .22 rimfire combo.

This has proven again recently to be an excellent set up for kids. What has happened, is a kid's eye dominance changed, and they could still shoot "their very own" gun.
The sisters are now into shooting, and they too are left eye dominant. At the 4H Beginning Shooter, this gun, was used by both right and left eye dominant youths, and parents.

Yes, you will have monies left over, still do you have something to teach a kid to shoot on? If not, I recommend one of these combos.

Oh, I too like the youth models, and in fact, when I visit one of our members, I do snag the youth combo, when assisting with property duty (varmints/pests) or having fun.

To keep it, give it away.

If I were to buy a gun just for the heck of it, it would have to be a .22, because that's the ammo I shoot, when I'm shooting just for the heck of it. You can get a mighty good .22 for the money you're talking about, lots of choices. You already mentioned some good ones. Another idea is a nice accurate bolt action with a good scope. Savage MkII and Leupold rimfire scope, maybe. You'll spend more time readying and aiming than firing, but that has a certain charm...

hey, is the the da/sa version? http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/61771

My only "kid" is my 15 year old step son who is taller than me and a better shot than me lately. Not sure if I need a kiddie gun. I just asked asked him his vote. He said to buy one of the Sten lookalikes that the surplus sites are selling. Lol. That kid has some interesting gun taste, that's for sure.

Handled an FNX the other day. Liked the feel of it. Debated on buying it, but ended up with another CZ instead.

Buckmark would be a good idea. With one of those, you might just retire the Ruger to the safe.

10/22 would work. So would a Sig 522.

Not a gun, but you could buy a suppressor for a different level of fun.:D

Already have a savage mk2 with a bushnell scope. ;)

Have you fired both? I've never handled a buckmark.

A used HK P7.

Where can I get one in good condition for 600? I would DEFINITELY consider that.

Hey, isn't the baby eagle a P99 for a cheaper price? I just remembered that.
Actually, now that the P99 price has dropped the Desert Eagle clone is the same price or slightly more, I'd definitely go with the Walther. I like the looks better, the larger serrations on the newer P99's make it easier to rack the slide, and most people say the clones (SW99/Baby Eagle) don't have as much attention to detail as the German made Walther, most of the clones have a grittier trigger.

The P99 comes with 2 mags, the one bad thing about the gun is that the Walther mags are expensive, around $50. However the SW99/Baby Eagle mags are exactly the same and are made by the same manufacturer, they cost about $35, though they seem to be out of stock everywhere at the moment. Personally I only need 4-5 mags and it's the gun is well worth it.

Where can you find a cheaper P99? Buds has the P99 for $650, but the baby eagles for $600 or so...

Yep. Buddy has a Ruger. I have a Buckmark with the URX grip. After a shooting session one day, it wasn't long until he had his own Buckmark. I like mine so well, I bought it a mate last month.

Both are great guns. It is just that the Buckmark fits my hand ALOT better than the Ruger. For me, a better fit leads to me shooting better.
