Updated pics? I'm following this closely, I'm thinking of a Mosin in the next few days.At 1000 yards? Lol well I guess I wouldn't doubt it. So I think I'm going to notch out part of the trigger guard in this stock, and just use the bottom metal of the mosin as the back part of the trigger guard.
Wow, incredible work so far.
Thanks for sharing. Cant wait to see it progress.
Just to let you guys know, I now have access to locally grown black walnut trees, but would need a while to season them. Something for y'all to consider.
and its extended magazine
People have tried to make the 20 round Lahti magazines fit the rifle, which are double stacks that narrow to single stack, but unfortunately they are too wide for the receiver.
There are 2 things I am running into with this project so far. I would need to widen the receiver to accept the magazine. Some told me that the interrupter would have to be lose, but I believe that if the rifle is using a magazine that negates the purpose of the interrupter. So that first part can be handled if I can be sure that the safety of the rifle isnt at risk by removing metal from the lower part of the reciever.
Second issue is the magazine needs to be opened up more on top for the locking lugs to pass through the magazine. This is the part that truly is giving me the most trouble. I cant think of a way to have the magazine be wide enough for the rounds to get picked up by the bolt but also stay in the magazine. I am going to have to brain storm like crazy on that part.
I have Been trying to accomplish this for years..Here is what I have learned:The Mosin receiver is very narrow where the bolt strips the rounds from the single stack box mag.:The Mosin relies on the spring loaded ejector [Edit}to hold the cartridges in the box mag and has no mag lips.:In order to add mag lips to a detachable mag{Needed or the rounds would squirt out when detached}The bolt lug that passes thru the mag lips when it strips the round will have to be narrowed....a lot!...The mag in the picture you posted are Finnish Lahti 26 mags that are double stacked/single feed and wont even begin to enter the Mosin with out some major surgery on the receiver. Not saying it can't be done...But I would love to see that receiver on that middle picture to see how they did it...something tells me it has been heavily modified[opened up] to get the Lahti mag in it.
