Looking for a pocket gun

I don't think I could fit a j frame in my pocket and if I could, I couldn't get it out very easily.

What are you wearing? Skinny jeans?

I usually wear loose fit(not baggy or huge or whatever they fad word is these days) pants and my S&W 30 fits in them with plenty of room to slide my hand in and grab the pistol. Note I do usually prefer the carpenter cut pockets or whatever its called(they are cut at an angle down).

Being a pocket gun lover, and having gone through nearly every option but the LC9

Kahr CM9 with pocket holster

or

SW Bodyguard 380, which is bar none the lightest and 'best' 380 option I've found

Do you mean me?

If dropping the magazine on the Kel-Tec is your main problem you might consider the MPA Protector. The magazine locks in. See my range report for more details about its pros and cons..

I highly recommend the Taurus 709/740 Slim. it is roughly the same size as the PF9 and fits in the same pocket holster.

I gave the PF9 a chance, although I heard some bad experiences with it. They were mostly true and the PF9 jammed out of the box. The trigger was not the greatest either (too long for double taps, and if you have fat fingers then forget about it).

I traded it for a Taurus 740 which was flawless and already came with a polished feed ramp. Quality was way better on the Taurus and it even came with 2mags.

Another good recommendation is the LC9.

Many good suggestions but I'll give you my 2 cents after years of looking for the optimal pocket gun.

1st choice if I was big enough and with big enough pockets: Kahr PM9 blackened slide with night sights

2nd choice If I was bigger; S&W 642w/out a lock

3rd choice and what I actually carry: Kahr P380. It's flat, small, carry's 7 rounds, best DAO trigger of any gun I've ever fired. No eternal safeties, no mag disconnect, sights as good as a any full size out there. Super reliable, accurate and ergonomic. Only thing i don't like about it is that it's .380.

S & W Bodyguard .380 ACP is a good choice for a pocket carry. Like you I got rid of the PF9, not because of your problem, but because mine would jam every 4 rounds. I have put about 120 rounds through the Bodyguard, and have had zero jam issues, or any other kind of issues, plus it comes with a sweet built in laser. Choose whats best for you though, best of luck.

For a real pocket gun I think it's hard to beat the LCP. Mine's fired over 1000 rounds now without a single fault. The little piece is extremely compact and disappears in my pocket nestled in a DiSantis Nemesis pocket holster. No one's ever spotted it in the couple of years in my jeans or in cargo shorts. It's light enough that it doesn't pull down one's pocket. With Cor Bon, Hydro Shock, Double Tap or one of the other self defence ammo available in .380 these little guns are pretty potent.

I have a Kahr CM9 and a Ruger LCP. The LCP is way better for pocket carry, but the CM9 is a much smoother gun with better sights. I put a CT laser on the LCP and I carry it more often because it is better in the pocket of jeans.

Ruger LCP

I have 4 Main Carry Weapons. Depending upon which side of town I’m in I may be found with the S&W 4043 in the glove box. Either the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .44 MAG , a Ruger SP 101 .357 Cal, or a SIG P-239 in 9mm as a main gun. Weather and how I’m dressed are also taken into consideration. The Ruger LCP .380. with a CT Laser, goes along as a BUG or sometimes flies solo.

I am looking for a pocket gun as well. I stopped by my LGS and handled the Diamondback 9 and was very impressed. Its just about as small as a LCP and P380, weight was about the same and the trigger was smooth. I would rather carry 6+1 9mm rather than 6+1 380 in the same size package. Price on the DB9 was $390. A DB9 may be my first purchase for 2012

I'll second the Taurus TCP (738), its advantage over the LCP is that it has the 'bolt hold open' option after the last round that the Ruger doesn't. It is also a lot more comfortable to shoot than the Kel-Tec P3AT I used to own (and hated).

The Taurus Slim (709) is another option but somewhat bigger than the TCP. But it is a single-stack 9mm and a great shooter!

Modern Taurus pistols are great values for the money, and all mine have been absolutely dependable!

Cheers! M2

I carry a Ruger LCP daily. Some feel the .380 ACP is enough, but then again this isn't a caliber debate.

I figure if 6+1 Winchester PDX1 .380s aren't enough, I'll beat the bad guy to death as he bleeds out.

I've owned an LCP, PF9, Bersa Thunder 380cc, P11, S&W bodyguard 38, and P3AT. The BT was almost perfect, but just a little big. The P3AT is my current (and so far best) CC.

I'm in the same boat. I decided to get a kahr CM9....but I'm also getting a Ruger LCP as sometimes I get lazy.

I carry a Smith 340M&P in a Blackhawk #3 pocket holster. I have tried .357's in it and did not enjoy the recoil. I just bought several boxes of the Speer Gold Dot 135 gr. SB .357's and have been pleased with them so I am going back to the .357 loading. I have 2 Mikas on order, one round and one square cut. I have no trouble concealing this revolver all day in any kind of pants. I'll be staying with the J frame for concealed carry.

Have S&W 442 -- very light, 5 shots of .38 sp.; a very good EDC choice. But I prefer the Colt Detective Special. It's heavier to carry, but fits my hand better, has less recoil, and has one more shot. The Smith has no hammer to hang up, but I'll take the extra shot.
