My Wife and I go shooting on a regular basis. She will only Shoot my pistols. She complains about the recoil of .223 rifles. I find this silly because she will shoot a .454 Casull Ruger Alaskan, S&W 500 and will shoot many rouds thru a 10mm. Im guessing she doesn't like the recoil pushing into her shoulder. I was thinking that a FN PS90 TR would be a very good choice. Im really not into the pistol Caliber carbine thing but I will listen to any good argument in favor of one insted of the PS90(Besides cost of ammo argument).

Is the PS90 a good choice to make her "Come to the dark side"? I have always thought they were neat little plinkers but didn't really need another goofy caliber to buy for. But this gives me a good reason to pick one up.

I shot one before but that was a long time ago and I really didn't pay any attention to the recoil or lack of it. I have been told they are next to none in the recoil departement, less than a 9mm carbine. Is this true?

What do you guys think?

I have a Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm. Everyone I know who's given it a go (both male and female) has really fallen in love with it. Minimal recoil, and very accurate at moderate distances. Just and all-around fun gun!

A Colt or RRA 9mm,mines a Colt and my wife loves to shoot it (ammo is affordable BTW)...extreme minimal recoil, fun and somewhat accurate to boot.

get an ar in a pistol caliber, or get the fn, but not ps 90, get the 2000 , which fires the 223, soft recoil. or a kel tec su 16c, super light, folding stock , piston drive, takes away a bunch of the recoil. Or last but not least the copy H#K, mp5 clone, which is done in 22lr.

The PS90 is simply fun to shoot and has as little recoil as you can find. I am planning on testing accuracy more extensively this weekend if the weathers good but my initial reaction is to say it is pretty acurate.

It is very hand and if the cost of the gun and ammo doesn't put you off then I cannot think of an arguement against it.

The round is marginal but if you are just shooting it for fun that is not much of a concern.

A 9mm carbine is another good option but you will not get the same looks of curiosity and jelousy as the PS90 elicits. IMO there are better guns for the money but if money isn't a big issue the PS90 is great gun.

I have too many other purchases to make right now, but I cannot help but think an SBR (and possibly suppressed) PS90 would be even handier and even more fun.

Sounds kinda like a pistol caliber AR or similar is what you want, but you mention wanting to use it for coyotes or prarie dogs in a pinch, and While I have no PERSOANL experiance hunting either, I was under the impresion both were pretty skittish, thus requiring fairly long shots, whish may be pretty hard to make (or may not make for a clean kill on something bigger like coyotes due to loss of energy over longer distance)with a pistol caliber due to ballistics. hopefully someone with more knowledge of pistol caliber carbine ballistics and cotote/prarie dog hunting can answer that one.If I'm right, that may seriuosly limit your options.
That said, I'm really surprised she doent like the recoil of .223. I barely notice my M4 having any recoil, and it's not like I'm any bigger (probly heavier though) then the average woman at 5'5" 150lbs......

She forces me to many many things I dont like.......

She likes to shoot, asked if there was a softer recoiling Sporting tac. rifle that we could get.

I was also thining M1 Carbine.

+1 for the 30 Carbine... the funnest gun I have... whether it's accurate enough for PD's... well...

.22mag will do the trick on PD and 'yotes if you don't get too crazy with range. A 10/22 Magnum comes to mind.

Also as already mentioned... 9mm, .40S&W carbines from Kel Tec.

AR with a 5.7x28mm upper?

Since 5.7x28mm is basically a centerfire .22 magnum rimfire, I'm sure recoil is negligible.

Wow, she doesn't mind 454 Casull but doesn't like 223 in a rifle? I wonder if there is a problem seating the buttstock against her shoulder? I heard somewhere that some people who aren't usually recoil sensitive will accidentally seat the butt against a nerve in their shoulder that causes pain, and that moving the butt a small bit (in some direction - I forget) can cause the pain to go away.

That's speculation though. If someone know where the "pain-sensitive shoulder nerve" is, let us know. (But I also like the 30 Carbine and 10/22 ideas.)

Does the .223 rifle that she dislikes shooting happen to be an AR-15 with a M4-type collapsible stock? She may simply dislike how the sharp angles of the buttplate of that stock feel as it sits in the "shoulder pocket". A good experiment would be to have her shoot an AR with a fixed stock with a rounder end (like an ACE skeleton stock with the rubber pad on the end) and see if that feels any different. Best of luck though, and if you could figure out a foolproof way to get significant others to enjoy shooting at the range, you'd be a millionaire! :)

p.s. How about trying one of those heavy lead weights used for High Power shooting that fit inside of the A2 stock? That should reduce the felt recoil a bit as well.

My Hi Point 995 is cheap, rugged, reliable, and fun to shoot...cheap ammo, and accurate out to reasonable ranges.

I too, question what (if any) AR-15 she shot. My AR in .223 isn't tough at all on the recoil. In fact, I'd have to say it's one of the nicest centerfire rifles in regards to lack of recoil.

I have a buddy who has the HiPoint 9mm carbine, the Beretta Storm in .40, and the Keltec SUB-2000 in .40ACP, and they are much harsher to shoot than my AR.

Hmmm, maybe she is not holding the rifle tight enough into her shoulder. That was the problem with my friend's girlfriend. She has a blast at the range after we worked on her form a little.

I like the 5.7x28 AR15 upper. When will they be shipping?

I really think she just doesnt like the recoil pushing on her shoulder. Her form was good. I cant explain it.

Kind of off topic.... It would be nice to have a PS90 in .30 Carbine!

Eh, I feel recoil on a .223. It doesn't bother me, but its there and if you watch videos of me shooting, its usually evident. Try a Ceiner .22 kit. Or just let her choose a gun she likes to shoot. Seems like a big waste of time and energy to try to find something you'll like her to shoot.
