jdseven1,
you know my girlfriend and I were talking about that in the wee hours of this morning. What happened to those Y2K disaster plans. I know I was working with organizations to be prepared for back-up communcation. Point to poin nets, CB radios etc.
Strange nobody used those plans. High powered CB radios can get quite a distance.

Thanks Derek,
That's what I was thinking. There are many way to provide power, the News Channels did, so why not the civil authorities?

Dpesec. I know that in all cases with the high water all is lost. But people must make some effort to protect themselves and family. I live in a coastal New England town and we have had our share of Hurricanes and Northeaster in the winter. But we try to be ready with wood and generators for heat and power. Maybe this event will cause the powers to be to protect this and other citys from future events.

Looters should be shot on sight.

The break down of law and order creats chaos and delays the relief efforts.

The merchandise looted in the stores was bought and paid for by the store owners. The disposition of what is left is totally up to the store owner and his insurance company.

Have these looters been given permission to walk in and take what they want?

There is no excuse whatsoever. Right is right, wrong is wrong.

Doesn't help you much after your stockpile is under 20 feet of water.

If you choose to live 20 ft below sea level, one wonders why you didn't take that eventuality into account.

Have an alternate higher location to go to in town, or, after the storm, move the waterproofed cache up on the roof. Or leave, or any one of a thousand possible better options than sit there and drown.

Really, planning only involves a little forethought, these folks didn't have 30 minutes to kill one night to think it through?
