Made my day!!!!

When my kids were little (3 or 4 years old) I bought them a Chipmunk 22 rifle. We had a ball with it but in time they outgrew it and moved on to other normal sized guns. So I loaned it to one of my friends for his 8 yr old who was real small and he used it for several years til he out grew it. Last week I was playing in my gun case and came to that little rifle and wondered who I knew that could use it . Then I remembered a friend of mine who has a son that is recovering from leukemia and for 11yrs is really small so I asked Hugh if it was ok for me to loan Trent the gun til he outgrew it and he said yes. Well yesterday I took a trip out to their place and found them in the woods working on a pond site. Hugh hadn't said anything to Trent so it was a complete suprise and you haven't seen a happier kid. The gun was a perfect fit and we had a ball teaching him how to shoot it and about gun safety. Wish I had a hundred of them to loan out just so I would get to see that unbriddled joy. rugerman

Hey guys thanks for the replys. But I really did it for selfish reasons. It made me feel so dam good that nothing could ruin that feeling, and every time that I think about it I get a lump in my throat & a big smile on my face. Try it you'll like it. It's sort of like when I was with my kids when they killed their first deer, I didn't stop smilling for days. And I have been lucky enough to be able to loan several of my friends kids a rifle that they killed their first deer with. It doesn't get much better than that, its sort of how I flet when I got my first deer so many years ago just thru someone elses eyes. If we want hunting to continue we have to be able to let the next generation experience that same feeling. And if you are there or if that kid tells you all the gorey details over & over you get to relive that same feeling and one day that kid will till his kids and or grandkids and the hunting tradition goes on & on. Try it you'll like it as much as I do. A friend of mine's 3 kids all killed their first deer with my Marlin 44mag rifle, it was sort of handed down from one to the next, now they are all grown and all of them still hunt every chance that they get and we get to relive their good & bad times every time that we meet. There is nothing wrong with feeling good about such a fine gesture. I doubt that your entire motive was to feel good. Instead I think you demonstrated a high degree of compassion and love for another.

Acts such as what you have done have a way of making others become less selfish and self-centered.
Also it is a fine act by your son to be willing to loan his rifle to one less fortunate than himself.
