How many magazines for your pistols do you own (on average)? How 'bout for your favorite gun? Per gun I mean. How many do you plan on having?

For my "main" hand gun, I have 4 tested, like new magazines

For my other, interest, collectors, etc. I try to have 2 minimum.

For each semi-auto handgun (30) I have, I have no less than 11 magazines

For each semi-auto rifle (7) I have, I have no less than 15 magazines

Yeah, that's right. I have 435+ magazines in total for all those guns. :D

I only have 5 Colt 30rd preban .223 magazines for my future AR.

I will however, probably have around 5 for the 1911 (they are so thin)

and around 3-5 neutered (10rd) mags for my USP.

why are folks listing numbers of mags for their rifles in a handgun section?

for my regular use pistols i try to have at least 10 mags, for most pistols i have about 6

a 1911 is a sort of special case, i started with 12 and pick up another 4-6 whenever i see them at a good price.

you have to remember that magazines are consumable items...like brake shoes

/\ Hmm, I didn't realize that. What's the average life span of a magazine? I imagine it varies on type and company, but what's a ballpark?

i've read in hard use, 20K-30K rounds per year, that they'll last about a year, according to Hilton Yam at 10-8 Consulting...besides being a noted 1911 pistolsmith, he is a full time FBI SWAT team member...who sees a lot of 1911s in real world use.

he recommends using the CMC PowerMag...if you can't afford the PowerMag Body and the Tripp CobraMag follower...and recommends throwing them away when they start having feeding issues

5 for my fun gun, but I may get another. I use them all weekly.

4 for house gun-- used to be my fun gun.

3 for others

If you don't physically damage it, what's to wear out beside springs and follower?

Feed lips are adjustable, but that can be a pain to tinker with.

i don't think it's a good cost/benefit trade off to risk your life on mag lips you've "bent back into shape". another CMC PowerMag isn't that expensive...about a hours work

My personal preference is to have 4 mags for any gun I own. Currently I have 5 for my 6906, three 12-rounders and the two 10s that came with it.

on average between 2-3 per gun, except for my glock 26 i have 2 10rd, 2 15rd and 3 33rd mags. when i had a 1911 i picked up 15 mil-surp mags for $5.00 each at a gun show.

For pistols, I average 3 magazines each. I have more than that for 45acp, but that's only because I had some leftover when I sold a 1911A1 and when I bought my next one, it came with more. I have 4 on one gun because I had 2 8 round mags, but I didn't like the feel, so I bought 2 10 round mags. I don't carry a 2nd magazine with me so that's not important. I have a 2nd for the range or in the house if I need a 2nd. I have a 3rd, strictly as an immediate replacement in case one of the first 2 were to break. This way I have my 2nd one on hand while the replacement is on order.

Relax. It is not as if such information suddenly renders this thread invalid.

I have at least six for any handgun; three are kept loaded and three are empty at any given time. I rotate the mags out when the time changes.

I usually have at least 12 magazines for each gun, often more.

I like a minimum of at least 3 for any pistol, but usually have a lot more than that especially for guns I've had for a long time or have more than one of.

I lost track of how many 1911 mags I have.

I typically have four for most pistols, with the also-typical exception for 1911 mags.... I have something that is certainly in excess of four for those.

I have 14 Mec Gar CZ Mags, that work in all my guns, and 5 CZ Kadet 22lr kit mags that work in all my guns :)

Also, my 2 double mag holders, hold any of the mags. so 1 in the gun, 4 on the belt, for any gun I own in the same holder.

I think I am ahead of the game :)

2.86 averaged over all the guns.
I bought a 3913 with 5 mags, it just came that way.
3 for my target .22
3 for my carry 1911 (I know, I know, I'm working on it!)
3 for the wife's P22
2 for the carry PPS
2 for the Beretta 9MM, but they hold 17 rounds, so...
2 for the POS Smith 22s
none for the revolver. Really.

And at the risk of bringing the dragon back out:fire:...lot's and lot's for the AR15 and the AK47s.
