How many magazines do you own for your pistols?

I have 3 mags for my M&P 45c, and 5 mags for my G19 gen 4. All loaded 24/7. The 45c has 230g Ranger-T's, and the G19 has 124g Gold Dot +p's.

<SNIP>I need a few more Mec-Gars for the 5906, I want to convert my sole S&W factory 5906 mag to a 15-roung backup for the 6906 with the S&W grip adapter.

Get 'em while they're still good and plentiful. I'd noticed that the Mec Gars are becoming a little more scarce - at an inexpensive price. I'm guessing that it's due to the age of the guns and the overall demand for 59xx series mags.

At least five per gun, plus the one that is in the gun. After they are tested at the range, I keep five loaded for defense, and one for a range magazine.

At least 3 mags for a pistol that will see any use, just so you have spares in case one is lost or damaged.

For any pistol that will see serious use, or that you plan to keep running for a very long time, you would do well to have 6 or more mags.

The reason is longevity. Springs and followers ware out. Rebuild kits may be available now, but that may not always be the case. A nice pile of 6 - 12 factory mags will keep your pistol running for the rest of its (or your) life.

At least three for the hard to find ones and at least six for everything else.
Spare magazines are what will help sell a pistol, especially if you have an oddball.

If your running around saying you have 30 magazines per gun I'd like some pics. You could have bought at least another gun for that money.

6 each (G26, G19 and HK USP 9mm) rotate my carry and home loaded mags every month.

I don't need pictures if someone says they have tons of magazines. I personally have over 300 Glock magazines (different models, etc...) and have seen collections that made my stash pale by comparison. I usually have 10+ per gun.

I know an FFL dealer that helped catalogue and value a private collection of over 2500 S & W handguns. The owner is very wealthy and doesn't hesitate to pick-up the phone and buy several guns at one time and have them shipped to his dealer. I'm really hoping he'll adopt me someday.

If that's true (and I realize that isn't the case for everyone), why the need for "a minimum of 12" magazines, much less 24 of them?
Short answer - magazines fail. It's not uncommon for magazines to crack at the feed lips or be dropped and bent beyond working geometry, and a semiauto with a bad magazine is a heavy single shot. Keeping the magazines loaded puts a lot of stress on the feed lips that often leads them to crack over time, and yet a carry gun's magazine is gonna be always loaded. I normally try to keep at least eight (8) magazines per gun on hand, and more if I keep them loaded.

And then there is the issue of hi-cap magazines being potentially outlawed over time, as happened between 1994 and 2004. Those of us who lived thru that are keenly aware how quickly something that we take for granted can be taken away.... I am much more likely to stockpile hi-cap magazines than I am, say, magazines under ten rounds in capacity.

12 G19 mags for shooting matches with my G23 and 9mm conversion barrel. 4 for the G23. PF9 gets 4 mags, S&W 6906 gets 4 mags. My G27 has 3 mags but the G23 mags get a lot of use in the G27. 3 mags for the P3AT. 6 mags for the 2 FEG PA63's that I have.

I guess I could gather up all my mags and snap a pix, but you would probably accuse me of downloading someone else's pix. So, since you don't fill a niche in my life...

I can use only one gun in a match, but I can use multiple magazines.

How Many Magazines?

At least a half dozen for each size gun. Now remember the magazines for the G17 will work in the G19 and G26. And the magazines for the G19 will work in the G26.
Eight G17 + six G19 + six G26 = twenty to feed the G26.

I have 6 or 7 for my 1911 and 6 for my Glock 23 (4 for the .40 and 2 for the 9mm conversion). I have 6 for my Ruger MkII as well.

I plan on picking up a few more mags for my Glock.

30 mags per gun isn't a lot. I have a couple of 10/22 rifles and I probably have 70 mags for 'em. Granted, most of 'em are still in their original packaging, but I've lived through the AW ban. It's all a matter of perspective...

I think that a lot of guys buy extras incase there is another mag ban. The memory of $75. for a Glock 22 mags still stings in my mind (no I didn't buy it).

On some of the surplus pistols, if you don't get them while you can. You will pay the piper later. Look at mags for Makarovs, PA 63 and CZ 52. Mak mags? I rcall seeing them for a couple of buck each. Now $20. give or take. PA 63 mags I bought at $5.00 They are $25. when you can find them now. CZ52? $7.00 each not long ago. Now OEM mags are $35. to $40. If you can find them. Same thing is happening to EBR mags. Thats why so many guys will buy them 100 at a time when they can.

Just my outlook on it.
YMMV
