Most folk say you can never have too many magazines. How many do you have for your pistols? This will be hard because many of us own more than one pistol. So I'll ask it this way, what's your average number of mags per pistol? If you would need a calculator for this, please feel free to guesstimate.

I'll be the first to admit I'm light in the magazine department, so I'm probably averaging somewhere around 3 or 3 1/2 mags per pistol.

My pistol that I plan on using in carbine courses as a side arm has 5 or 6, but my other only has 3, two of which I don't trust (will be picking up some new ones soon). So I'd say I'm at an average of 3-4 depending on how you calculate junk mags. I'd like to eventually get up to 8 mags or so for each but that could take a while.

Now my primary rifle for the carbine courses has 10 mags...

A minimum of (6) rotated in usage and (4) unused in reserve with Glock pistols. About the same for S&W. For 1911 series pistols (12) magazines and you may best believe none of those are Wilson 47D models.

(Advertisement copy: “Featuring Wilson’s strongest magazine body to date, the Elite Tactical magazine was built from the ground up to be an ultra-reliable magazine. Additional features are an improved follower design with an extended skirt, special stainless steel spring that will not take a set and a near indestructible base pad.”)

It would appear that their previous design was “Recreational Use Only”. Yes to those that say magazines are consumable items and it appears Wilson’s previous design was more so. Their advertisement wording addresses the failings of the previous design.

My minimum is three mags per pistol, although a couple have only two mags (polish 64 and Mauser HSc) most have 5 to 8 each.

Those of us who remember the AWB tend to fall into the "you can never have enough" catagory.

Between two and six as a general rule. Fewer for pistols I consider primarily for CC use, more for range-shooting favorites.

I have a pair of full-frame S&W 3rd Gen .40s that have, I think, twenty mags between the two of them, because used police-trade mags are cheap, and I inventory these as SHTF sidearms: rugged, dependable, simple, relatively inexpensive bought used, and accurate... enough.

My #1 pistol of choice is the Browning Hi-Power. I have just a couple. :) But I know I have close to 50 or more magazines if I count them all. A mix of OEM, FN and military contract. 13rd & 20rd magazines. It will be a while before I start borrowing yours.

I have three per pistol, except for my Beretta 92FS. I've had it for the longest time, so I have 1x20, 2x18, 3x15 and 2x10. All are OEM or Mec-Gar.

Yeah, I knew people like Hangingrock would show up and shame me and my 3-4 per.

I’ll reduce the numbers if it’ll make you feel better but the restriction on full capacity magazines still lingers in memory.;)

I subscribe to several magazines

I have several magazines that come in the mail. American rifleman, national geographic etc...

For pistols that I use often, like my 9x19 1911s, I have around 25 magazines. I use ten or so at a time which allows the others to be serviced (cleaned, springs replaced, lubricated) on a regular basis. I also keep spare followers and springs.

Any gun that is carried has a minimum of ten spare magazines.

the general answer is "not enough"

For carry guns - minimum 4 carry-grade with some range-only as well (applies to possible civil unrest rifles, too)
For frequent-use target guns - minimum 5 (target rifles as well)
For random milsurp or oddball "just because" guns - whatever I can scrounge, with good/junk mags marked ... more is better, obviously

I generally like four spares, but for range favorites I want enough mags to hold at least 200 rounds so I can spend my time at the range shooting, not stuffing mags.

A few pistols have only one or two magazines because more aren't available.

Others have, I don't know, I'd guess thirty something mags.

I like to have at least five mags for each pistols.

I like to have enough mags for a box of 50 rounds so I don't waste time reloading at the range. 8 round mags I have 6 (48). !0 round mags I have 5 (50). 13 round mags I have 4 (52), etc. Makes it easy to work on tactical reloads and to not pay more than I need to at hourly fee ranges.
