Mail-in-Match for Fellow THR Members!

Frohickey brings up a good point. Contestants will have fairly good control over when a letter gets postmarked, but little or no control over when it gets delivered. Might be considered for future matches or even this one, no reason why not.

M58 - the distance was supposed to be 10 yards, not 10 inches! ;)

ROR is doing a good thing. I understand he has to set limits and unless folks want to pony up some $$$ or time to help him he can run things by his rules. That said if my target makes it in a day late I hope he can overlook it. :)
I shot IMO for me a DANG good target and better then I did when using the S&W for league shooting. Of course one flyer for last round ruined the grouping. :( :(
I am waiting for Feb. target as I plan to be out of area for a while. At least know what type of gun to bring with me.
Hint 9mm semi auto would make it so I don't have to bring a second gun thru TSA.....

Since this is the first match and it got started late in the month, a day or two late is OK, but I won't include any stragglers I get after the results are posted. So if you're shooting in Germany and haven't mailed it yet, borrow a scanner and e-mail your target.

The February match featured weapon and target will be posted February 1st, so you all should have plenty of time.

Hint: It should be a plinkin' good time!

Just a suggestion for next month. Why not have 2 divisions, junior and adult. Just use the NRA and USA shooting definitions. A junior is anyone 20 or under. You enter the adult division the year in which you turn 21. Or you could fudge a bit and make it when you turn 21. I got kinda miffed when I won the state junior olympic match in December, but could not attend the national match in April because I turned 21 four months later.

Knew I would not get in on-time.
But had fun anyhow.
Used the M10 Royal Hong Kong Police .38 Spl.

M58

An idea for future targets scanned. Put a piece of yellow/red/orange/blue paper behind target. Then all the hits both in the black and outside will really stand out. I personally could not tell where all your hits were. Just a thought for those scanning them in.

M58 -- That must be a digital photo. Scanned targets show up pretty well, but larry_minn is right, a lighter paper behind a photographed target would help with scoring. Since this is the first month, I'll still let you get it in if you want to fill out the info, sign and put a light paper behind the target for another photo.

We are still working on getting the February target posted on a website. The featured weapon will be the good old .22lr rifle. E-mail me at [email protected] to get the .pdf file if you want go shoot your .22 rifle before we officially post the announcement and the target.

Great turnout for the first match! I'll have the results posted next weekend.

Thanks for the hint!
Not for score; just for fun.:p

I just printed out the rifle target. The picture of the can is about 10 percent smaller than an actual can. I measure 59 millimeters for the target and about 65 for the diameter of my mountain dew can.

Is that what it should be? I don't want to cheat but I also don't want to be handicapped. And BTW, thanks for the great idea of THR matches. I'm looking forward to this.

this is a GREAT idea!

I might not have too many chances as I only have a .45...with no place to shoot my .22 at 50 yds in this stupid state!

Yes, It is a little smaller than actual size, the original was 2.5"x4.8". That must have been lost in the conversion to .pdf, but as long as everyone's target is the same size, it shouldn't matter.

Very cool idea for a match!

griz, just aim for the X and it won't matter what size the can is. ;)

Jmurman, why not make a road trip to the NRA range for the 50 yd target. Or you can shoot the can 40 times, 2 for each 25 yards. :D

I am trying

[Jmurman, why not mke a road trip to the NRA range for the 50 yd target. Or you can shoot the can 40 times, 2 for each 25 yards.]

I am trying to join a group here. Most aren't in my area, and being fairly new to Balto...makes it a little tough.

You know... for the Febuary match... ROTR could have just gotten everyone to shoot at a real (pre-rinsed) beverage can and have it sent to his P.O.Box.

I bet you can get a little recycling money out of that. :D

ROTR

This is a cool target but I wish it was a Caffine free Pepsi cause I hate that stuff as thats all the wife buys. YUCK Looks I am going to have to drink some before I shoot and lay off the coffee at 50 yards lol. Boon :D

I'm in.... Next Desert shoot is planned for the 22nd so it's perfect timing..

Get to use my Wuger Winternational? Yeah baby, I'm a pretty good shot with that one.....

Jan Mail in Match Results

ROR: do you have a ballpark idea when we'll see the results of the January(1st)mail in Match? Thanks! BTW, does my 10" bull barrell Ruger MKII count as a rifle?:uhoh:

Best wishes,

Steve

Next month's match target will be $20 bills.:D

Thanks Bedlamite for the great idea for this month's match -- and for posting the website with targets.

I will get January's results posted by Saturday 2/8.

If you don't have a rifle, go ahead and use a pistol for this. Use the same classifications:

Standard = regular barrel up to 6"
Improved = barrel over 6", bull barrel or other significant improvements
Scoped = scoped
Open = any other pistol

Good luck at 50 yards! Pistol scores will likely get honorary mention.

Or -- get yourself a .22 rifle -- what a great excuse to get a new sub- $200 gun that shoots dirt cheap ammo accurately!

RESULTS!

Some nice shooting and a few heartbreaking last shots on a challenging course!

Monster wins both the Stock Class and overall with a 56-3X
Blueduck wins Improved Class with a 55-1X with his 2.5" M-19:eek:
JR Hines wins Open Class with a 56-2X
And no one entered with a scoped .357.

Great turnout for the first match. Thanks to all those who got out in the winter and participated!

Might have to question Mr Hines 3rd 10 in open class (just being facetious and overly competative, actually that was some good shooting ).

Note: my last name doesn't have the extra a. Only the rich side of the Vaughn family use the a before the n. I'm one of the poor ones.

Really enjoyed the match. I will be participating in the Feb match after I finish setting up the 5.0 Adobe.

Scott

Trying to dnld. Feb Tgt.

ReadyOnTheRight.....

Thanks again for creating this Mail in Match! Am I the only one having trouble with the Feb. Download? Maybe I've got Mud instead of Adobe:confused:
