Re: freehand

Just found the Virtual Match. What a great idea.

Question: the instructions indicate a freehand (one or two hand) hold, but says nothing about firing position. Are pistol classes to be standing freehand or can it be done prone or one knee down postitions?

"freehand" or "offhand" can, indeed, be ambiguous terms. For the virtual match what is really intended id "unsupported". This is generally assumed to be standing for our matches. Prone would be considered supported since your elbows would touch the ground. Kneeling could be supported if you rest your elbow on your knee but might be unsupported if you used a straight-back posture without having your arms touch your leg or other support.
In short - handgun "offhand" for our matches are assumed to be standing.

Looks like I still need a little work with the 1911 :

July match and June deadline

I am glad to see there are a bunch of entries this month!
ROTR has posted a match for July so go check it out.

I have decided to extend the submission deadline for the June match to 7/5/2004 so you have a chance to go out and shoot both matches over the Holiday weekend. (I will be on the road without web access so the final June score listing probably won't get posted until 7/8 or so, but I will do it.)

That's what I get for trying to shoot the match on my first range trip in six weeks At five yards I was X, X, 10 but at six I managed to miss the black with all three shots. I think I just wasn't concentrating enough.
