True, but hopefully when I grabbed you (well, not you personally ), I will have been able to step far enough so you are off balance and leaning in such a way that Ichanging hands won't be too easy.

Hope is not a method.

It is recomended to cut YOURSELF first , so that you 1. Seem totally insane and a bigger threat than you may be, and 2. Have seen blood.

I mean no offense, but there is no kind way to say this; that is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Regarding the 21' rule: The Poll makes reference to the "Tulley Circle" which I take as a reference to the Tueller Drill. I believe for purposes of this thread, the BG is already with 21 feet.

Ever stand in front of a handgun when it's going off? I hope not, but that's exactly what you're proposing when you suggest an unarmed person could disarm an armed foe using their hands. Even if the bullet doesn't hit you, the muzzle blast is painful and extremely disconcerting even from a small pistol. From a snub nosed .357 it's powerful enough to do serious damage to human tissue and set clothing on fire. Indeed it can kill. I don't think most martial arts experts realize this when dealing with plastic dummy pistols.

I would put stock in the Martial artist who has a gun against the plain old Martial artist. Someone who can use their hands, feet, joint locks, etc. to subdue, as well as having a projectile weapon would win. Train hard.

It's spelled"Tueller". It depends. At the

full 7 yds, if the pistol is under a T shirt, with the right ammo in it, and I'm focused on him. I don't care if he's another Bruce Lee. He doesn't have a chance. Ditto at 3 yds, if the pistol is in a front pants pocket rig, and I have my hand on it. If you let a skilled man touch you, the odds are you will be dropped-disabled instantly. Nothing says, however, that you can't jump backwards as you make a belt draw, and back up another step or 2 as you fire.

Just because I have a gun does not

mean I wont nutkick you or gouge your eyes out. I've been practicing this scenario for over 20 years now.

Hey, you guys shoudl watch my show!

We've been dealing with this very issue, and will continue to do so. First season, we did an episode with Michael Janich, a fine martial artist and a master of the blade, on the repeated failures of the BLOCK-STEP BACK-DRAW-FIRE technique in simulations (and, yes, Airsoft has been an invaluable tool).

The issue seems to be one of biomechanics rather than pure training...primates (us included) tend to be able move better, faster and more accurately FORWARD than BACKWARD. When you start task-loading a person already moving backwards, things fall apart pretty quickly.

This season, we're doing an episode with Rich Daniel in Portland on his innovative Fist-Feet-Knife-Gun program, dealing with the integration of empty hand, impact and improvised weapons and knives into firearms training.

From my own philosophical standpoint, I'd like to get some dialogue going on how to get beyond the "IF YOU ONLY HAVE A HAMMER, EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE A NAIL" syndrome.

Or, as I said in one of Mas Ayoob's classes a hundred years ago, "If you have a PR-24 baton, everything looks like a kneecap..."

I don't know any MAs, or anything like that. I have, however, been in enough scraps to know this; in every fight, the person who acts with extreme agressiveness, coupled with a modicum of skill, will win.

I guess this does not apply to me. I am old, and I have nothing to prove. when he says give me your wallet, I will,,,,,,, I will give him the one with the hole in it for my trigger finger, and the first indication he has of trouble will be the muzzle blast.

OK, jokes aside,,,,,, In my opinion, the first one to act, the agressor, the attacker, will have the advantage,,,,,, but??? The one with the gun only needs to win one time. The martial artist may have to land more than one strike.
Skill level, awareness, and luck will all play a major part here.

Reminds me of an old joke:

Kung Fu Meister to Bad Guy---"Chop, chop, yeaiii!! Karate!!"
Bad Guy to Kung Fu Meister---"BAM!!......tire iron!"

I ain's seen a karate chop yet that would stop a bullet

Most people who 'took' or 'know' karate, know just enough to get their a$$ creamed.
