Assault weapons ban,
House bill 1240 passed the house. Headed for the senate where it is expected to pass. It has an "emergency provision" whereby as soon as Inslee puts pen to paper it takes effect.
House bill 1240 is I believe the most restrictive gun control bill in the nation. It not only bans most semi auto rifles, it also bans many semi auto shotguns, semi auto pistols with threaded barrels, and...get this...parts. No parts for any "Assault weapons". No bolts, bolt carriers, springs, triggers, barrels, handguards, nothing.

So now everyone is flocking to the gunshops for what could be the last chance in our lifetime if you are a state resident, to buy an "assault weapon", aka a ruger 10/22.
However, because the governer is expected to sign the bill as soon as it passes the senate, and its set to pass senate on monday, the bill will take effect immediately, thereby any transfers uncompleted by the time its signed will be null.
By the time all these people knew what was coming it was literally too late. Transfers take at least a week.
Some gun shops are taking peoples money, some are explaining and turning people away. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Clearly unconstitutional and if not overturned by the courts, will necessitate my move away from this state. Governor Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson should both be removed from office for violating their oaths to uphold defend and protect the constitution of the United States of America and the State of Washington. The greater Seattle area Democrat machine is a cancer that is spreading and must be removed before it kills the entire state.

Oh yes, we residents of the Evergreen State are totally screwed. I have been warning my fellow gun-owners up here for the past two years that this is where we were headed.

I made the rounds of my local West Sound/South Sound gunshops the past couple days, and the mood is somber, to say the least.

Governor Jay will sign each bill the same day that the Senate votes, with AG "Turd" Ferguson looking over his shoulder in the televised signing ceremony.

In less than 10 short years, Washington has gone from an A-rated state (in terms of gun laws or lack thereof) to the bottom of the barrel.

The "permit to purchase" will foist draconian regulations on firearm purchases even worse than Illinois' FOID or Maryland. The AWB will be worse than California or NY state.

Worst yet is SSB 5078 which, in combination with the AWB will kill manufacturing of firearms in WA state (Aero Precision, ZEV Technologies, et al). Not to mention, likely cause many, many gun stores to have to close.

Did I mention that these heinous pieces of legislation are co-sponsored by our resident ex-convict state rep (D) Simmons?

I live a mile from the Idaho border. I have a 5-year plan to sell my WA home and purchase land in Idaho in order to build a custom home across the border.

I currently own several "assault rifles". Looks like this unlawful bill affects future sales of weapons and magazines, but does not attempt to confiscate my current legal weapons. Apparently that is reserved for future unconstitutional acts.

My girlfriend works for the AG office and wants to learn how to shoot. She already hates Bob Ferguson. Our first range session will include a 10/22 and an AR-15 so she can fully appreciate just how absurd the leftists on the West side have become.

This will happen across the blue and purple states UNLESS Scotus gets out of the legal weeds and clearly states that AWBs and mag bans are unconstitutional and not screw around with new rules or remands. Unfortunately, they are unable to act clearly. Even if Bruen would be the basis of fighting a ban, that procedure will take years of up and downs in the lower courts and circuits and then pray Scotus takes up the case. Scotus failed and we have to wonder why?

They want to keep the issue hot for political reasons (oh, no - they aren't political - yeah, right!)?

Gee, where have I heard that concept before?

Let's not forget that "they" are passing patently unconstitutional legislation, not so much for its direct effect but for the effect it has in tying up 2nd amendment defenders' assets and efforts.

See, passing laws is cheap. Getting rid of them in the courts is expensive.

That's all I've got to say that's political today.

Hey, that rhymes! =D

I’m so depressed about the whole thing. I’m giving up and moving somewhere else. Everything here is about one upping any other commie state to be the ULTIMATE commie state. We the People are just road bumps to these bureaucrats. And they keep voting them in. I give up!!! stepping up my relocation plans

We here in Wis, have a supreme court vote coming up, that could turn this state into upper Illinois. States are dropping like flies.

I'm following 1240 here.

https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1240&Year=2023&Initiative=false

Looks like they covered everything including tactical shotguns.

I saw this coming about 4 years ago and purchased a rifle. Not much a person can do about it now except hope the lower courts overturn it. I doubt the USSC will be much help here. They always sidestep the issue when they have the opportunity for clarification.

Means little to me anyway. My rifles are just disposable items now, without value to anyone except me until I no longer need them.

Not sure how a state can declare a legally purchased item no longer legal to sell because of a public safety issue. For me that's like passing a law that makes a vehicle with a combustible engine illegal to sell. I think there may be some legal precedent here the good governor and legislators are overlooking.

And so it goes.

It sounds exactly like the bill Illinois passed and the gov signed immediately after passage. It is all tied up in the courts right now. I as well as many others were included in one of the earlier lawsuits against the gov and right now have a TRO (Temporary restraining order) that allows me to purchase any of the banned firearms, magazines, or parts from any gun dealer that also has a TRO. It is unconstitutional but it could take years for the courts to rule so.

Yes, we're a prime example of Sorros money buying judges. Wisconsin will be another district 9, rubber stamping everything liberal.

I'm in Illinois, but I'm not too worried. Our gun ban is on hold. It's headed to the Illinois Supreme Court where it might be upheld. I'm still not worried. SCOTUS is going to knock these unconstitutional laws down in one fell swoop. That's the plan.... always been the plan. That goes for California too.

That being said, I'm not staying in Illinois. The bordering states of Missouri, Iowa, and Indiana are much more gun friendly states if I want to be somewhat close to old friends, and close to family, but not too close.

From the linked bill:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds and declares that
gun violence is a threat to the public health and safety of
Washingtonians. Assault weapons are civilian versions of weapons
created for the military and are designed to kill humans quickly and
efficiently. For this reason the legislature finds that assault
weapons are "like" "M-16 rifles" and thus are "weapons most useful in
military service." Assault weapons have been used in the deadliest
mass shootings in the last decade. An assailant with an assault
weapon can hurt and kill twice the number of people than an assailant
with a handgun or nonassault rifle. This is because the additional
features of an assault weapon are not "merely cosmetic"; rather,
these are features that allow shooters to fire large numbers of
rounds quickly. An analysis of mass shootings that result in four or
more deaths found that 85 percent of those fatalities were caused by
an assault weapon. The legislature also finds that this regulation is
likely to have an impact on the number of mass shootings committed in
Washington. Studies have shown that during the period the federal
assault weapon ban was in effect, mass shooting fatalities were 70%
percent less likely to occur. Moreover, the legislature finds that
assault weapons are not suitable for self-defense and that studies
show that assault weapons are statistically not used in self-defense.
The legislature finds that assault weapons are not commonly used in
self-defense and that any proliferation is not the result of the
assault weapon being well-suited for self-defense, hunting, or
sporting purposes. Rather, increased sales are the result of the gun
industry's concerted efforts to sell more guns to a civilian market.
The legislature finds that the gun industry has specifically marketed
these weapons as "tactical," "hyper masculine," and "military style"
in manner that overtly appeals to troubled young men intent on
becoming the next mass shooter. The legislature intends to limit the
prospective sale of assault weapons, while allowing existing legal
owners to retain the assault weapons they currently own.

Way to publish the willful ignorance of the Washington State Legislature for all to see and mock. And make no mistake, everyone who voted for this garbage deserves to be publicly mocked.

Oh, trust us -- they are getting so widely mocked.

Problem is, they don't care. They're fine with homeless encampments in every city and county park, on every street near the ferry docks and stadiums, safe-injection sites manned 24/7 at taxpayer expense, catch-and-release of rapists, murderers and violent assailants, rent and mortgage payments only families with income of at least $400K/year can afford, as long as there's still a Starbucks and a legal weed shop on every block and they own the latest I-Phone.

Unfortunately, there's a lot more than a clearly unconstitutional gun ban wrong in Washington state.
West of the Cascades, absolutely.

Intentional, gradual destruction of a state's security, economy, support for the US Constitution etc, --------simply to perpetuate a Single Party's hold on power.....at Any Cost ------------

Just like in IL and many other states.

It appears that attacks on the Second Amendment and the Covid lockdowns were an experimental method to both "test" the citizens and also to exploit Both the citizens's indifference (+ compliance) and willingness to appease their masters.

Without getting too political, I will say that Washington is only going to get worse. The insanity is only growing stronger and more emboldened. I truly wish there was a way these people could get exactly what they want without the sane among them being pulled in too.
I would prescribe a few weeks in a virtual reality world built around every single aspect of their ideology, carried to its logical conclusion.

(iii) A conversion kit, part, or combination of parts, from which
2 an assault weapon can be assembled or from which a firearm can be
3 converted into an assault weapon if those parts are in the possession
4 or under the control of the same person; or

How would this even work? A muzzle brake would convert a plain old semi auto into an assault weapon. But it could be installed on anything. So you can't be in possession of a muzzle brake or a rifle with a muzzle brake if you also own a semi-auto rifle?
